The Wenatchee Wilderness U16AAA team traveled to the West Side for a Sunday morning matchup against the Seattle Sno-King Jr. Thunderbirds U16AAA in a rematch of last weekend’s three game set in Wenatchee. The game was played in Kirkland, WA at the Sno-King Ice Arena.
Seattle got on the board first, and would end up outshooting the Wilderness 29-21 overall but Wenatchee hunkered down and responded with four unanswered goals. Forward Bobby Anselmo continued his hot streak, tying the game at 1-1 after a clean Luke Pizzey faceoff win, his fourth goal in consecutive games against the Jr. T-Birds. Wenatchee took the lead for good as defenseman Braeden Snell tallied, assisted by Ethan Bockus. For Snell, he extends his point streak to three games. Anselmo struck again to pad the lead, finishing off a net-front scramble. Luke Pizzey added the final goal for a 4-1 Wenatchee victory, and has goals in back-to-back games against his former club. Luke Neilson turned back 28 of 29 shots for the win.
Development Teams Head Coach Ryan McKelvie was pleased with more than just the outcome. “It was a good win for the team against a quality in-state opponent. After giving up the first goal, I thought our players responded well emotionally and continued to work hard throughout the ups and downs of the game. The players have been doing a nice job of sticking together to get better every week.”
The Wilderness will skate in the ECEL “Play The Beach” Spring Classic Showcase in West Palm Beach, FL on March 18-20.
