Western Canada Cup Bracket Update
Manitoba Junior Hockey League- Portage Terriers are one victory away from winning another MJHL championship with a nail-biting 3-1 win Sunday night over OCN Blizzard.
Terriers, who are now up 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, now have a chance to win their third consecutive Turnbull Cup at home on Wednesday.
“We played like we needed to,” Terriers’ GM/Head Coach Blake Spiller told CFRY-Radio. “(OCN) had some chances and they aren’t going away. They (OCN) are now playing for their lives on Wednesday. We know they’ll be tough."
Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League- The Battlefords North Stars are now 10-and-0 in the 2017 SJHL playoffs, and now lead the Canalta Cup Final 2-0 after a 5-1 decision over the Flin Flon Bombers Saturday night in Battlefords.
That gives the Stars an opportunity to potentially hoist their first Canalta Cup in 17 years when the series shifts to Flin Flon next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Alberta Junior Hockey League- Mitch Benson (Windsor, ON) stopped all 28 shots he faced on Saturday night, as the Brooks Bandits took a 2-0 series lead in the 2017 AJHL Gas Drive Cup Final with a 3-0 win over the visiting Whitecourt Wolverines in front of a crowd of 1,937 at the Centennial Regional Arena in Brooks.
Benson’s fourth shutout tied him for the league record for playoff shutouts, a record most recently tied by former Bandit goalie Garret Hughson in the 2016 playoffs as well.
British Columbia Hockey League- Cassidy Bowes' first BCHL goal proved to be the game-winner for the Penticton Vees in a 5-1 road win over the Chilliwack Chiefs in Game 2 that evens the BCHL Finala at 1-1.
Ryley Risling opened the scoring for the Vees in the first period, scoring unassisted for his first of the post season and Bowes, an affiliate player dressed for just two regular season games and has now been in three playoff games, scored what would be the decisive tally at 13:11 of the opening frame.
