2019 Mann Cup Game 3 Goes Monday Night
By Ian McNaughton
The 2019 Mann Cup returns to action on Monday night as the Victoria Shamrocks host the Peterborough Lakers in Game 3 of the national championship. The Shamrocks found themselves victorious in Game 1 last Friday, 13-6, before falling short to the Lakers 12-10 in overtime in Game 2 Saturday. With the series tied at one, tonight begins a critical stretch of three games in three nights for the two squads. Game 3 is tonight, Game 2 is Tuesday, and Game 3 is Wednesday, so there’s no rest for the wicked when it comes to the Mann Cup.
There was no rest for Shawn Evans on Saturday, who must have been shot out of cannon pregame because he was deadly. Evans had a hat trick and five assists for eight points, the most points he’s scored in a game since July 28 against Cobourg. Coming into this series, Evans needed 15 points to take the second-place spot outright for all-time Mann Cup scoring before the series and he’s currently got ten points so far. Wherever Evans goes, the Lakers offense follows so don’t be surprised to see a game similar to Saturday.
For the Shamrocks, they had a 9-7 lead with less than two minutes to go in Game 2 but gave up five straight goals to fall on the losing end of things. Tyson Gibson was named Player of the Game with two goals and four assists while Pete Dubenski made a career-high 62 saves in the loss. The Rocks have got a big boost with the return of Casey Jackson, who’s got three goals and five assists in this Mann Cup. Gibson, Jackson, and Connor Robinson have a combined 26 points in the series and will be a trio to look for in these next few days.
The 2019 Mann Cup Presented by Island Savings will be going non-stop for the next three days. Tickets are still available for purchase while you can see every game live on WLA TV!
