Bravehearts Receive Key to the City
Mayor Joe Petty, City Manager Ed Augustus, and the Worcester City Council tonight awarded a Key to the City of Worcester to the Bravehearts after their FCBL Championship.
In a letter signed by Mayor Joseph M. Petty, the Bravehearts were commended for "work both on the field and off, which has helped make Worcester a more enjoyable place to work and live."
Commissioner Chris Hall, the front office, coaches Kevin Hartigan and Casey Cummins, and local players Josh Desai, Joe Saia, Nate Pajka, and Dave Montiverdi attended the ceremony at City Hall.
The letter went on to say, "your level of play was inspired and your hard work paid off by bringing your team and our city the 2014 Futures Collegiate Baseball League Championship. In your inaugural season, thousands of spectators came to Worcester to watch you play and we look forward to many more nights of summer baseball." Mayor Petty threw out the ceremonial first pitch in the team's first playoff game against Pittsfield on August 11th.
The Key to the City program was started in 1924 by Mayor Michael J. O'Hara.
