OWNERSHIP:
The Lake Tahoe Blue are owned by Greg Jamison and Van Olson. Between the two they hold over 35 years of professional sports experience, including the National Hockey League. The two purchased the Blue franchise and are committed to providing opportunities for junior hockey players to grow, while staying committed to the South Lake Tahoe Community.
THE TEAM:
The Lake Tahoe Blue Hockey Team is led by Team President Spencer Jamison. With almost 10 years working in Professional Sports, Spencer brings his passion for hockey and sports management to South Lake Tahoe. His desire is to bring a professional organizaiton to the Cith of South Lake Tahoe while provdiding the best experience for his players, coaches and fans.
THE COACH:
Head Coach Michael Richardson has dedicated his life to the game of hockey and brings with him a passion for development and winning. He has experiences in all levels in the game of hockey, not just as a Head Coach but also as an assistant coach and a player. Twenty five players between the ages of 16-21 make up the Lake Tahoe Blue roster.
THE PLAYERS:
The players stay with host families, called “billet families.” For some, it is their first time away from home as they move toward their dreams of playing NCAA or professional hockey. With our organizational structure and support from the South Lake Tahoe Community, every player feels right at home while they are playing in South Lake Tahoe.
THE LEAGUE:
The Western States Hockey League is an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), sanctioned, Tier III Junior A hockey league that has been in continuous existence since 1994. The league has grown from 6 teams to now 30 teams spanning across the United States. In its 46 game schedule, each team competes for the chance to win the Thorne Cup. The competitive schedule increases each player’s development towards playing NCAA or professional hockey.
THE ARENA:
The Lake Tahoe Blue play all of their home games at The South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. The address is 1176 Rufus Allen Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA, 96152. For more information please call 530-544-RINK (7465).
THE SEASON:
The Lake Tahoe Blue play a 46 game regular season schedule. 21 games will be played at home, 21 away, and 4 played at the WSHL showcase in Las Vegas, NV each December. The regular season ends in early March with playoffs beginning immediately after. The winner of the league advances onto the National Championship.
