Michigan Monarchs

History

History of the Monarchs Summer Collegiate Baseball Club

The 2024 season will be the 25th year for the franchise.

Founded in 1999, the team played its first few seasons in Carleton, Michigan before moving the team south to Toledo, Ohio in 2004. In Toledo, the Monarchs' home field was the former home of the Toledo Mud Hens, Ned Skeldon Stadium.

However, as the years went by, the structure of the stadium became less than favorable, and the Monarchs started splitting time between Ned Skeldon Stadium and Adrian, Michigan’s Nicolay Field. In 2010, Nicolay Field was where the Monarchs’ would play every home game, hoping to once again return to the state of Michigan for their franchise. Due to over-scheduling at the field in the summer, the Monarchs’ time in Adrian came to an end.

In May 2014, after 10 years of being an Ohio-based franchise, it was announced that the Monarchs would be moving operations to the South Wayne County community of Flat Rock, Michigan located halfway between Detroit and Toledo. The first season in Flat Rock was in 2014 and the franchise had five successful years there before deciding to make a move after the 2018 season.

As of early 2019, the Monarchs moved back to a familiar City, Adrian, and can't wait to begin a new chapter of the Monarchs franchise at Siena Heights Baseball Field. The turfed surface will ensure less games are rained out and the state-of-the-art press box will be especially valuable to game day staff and support.

In the 22 previous seasons as a franchise, the team has qualified for the National Baseball Congress World Series four times. In 2015, the Monarchs advanced as far as the Quarterfinals before falling to the St. Joe Mustangs, 10-8.
