Trenton Honors Andy Greene, Retires #8
The Trenton High School hockey program will retire Andy Greene’s jersey number 8 Wednesday, November 21, between the 1stand 2nd period of the game that evening between the Trojans and Cranbrook in the Main Rink at the Kennedy Recreation Center in Trenton. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM.
While playing for the Trenton Trojans, Andy dominated the game. As Trenton Head Coach Mike Turner stated, “I am very proud to be a part in the Andy Greene number retirement. Andy was a three year player for Trenton High School and an outstanding representative of High School hockey, his school, and his community. He has gone from MHSAA State Champion, Mr. Hockey, to college All American, and to the NHL Stanley cup finals.”
Andy Greene currently is in his sixth season with the Devils, has played over 300 career NHL games, and is approaching the 100-point milestone. Andy is best known for his skating and puck-moving skills, along with his exceptionally high “Hockey IQ.” Andy plays in all situations for the Devils, led the 2010-11 Devils in scoring by defensemen, and finished the season ranked 30th in the NHL in total ice time per game. Prior to joining the Devils, Andy Greene played four seasons at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, under Head Coach Enrico Blasi. At Miami, Andy was an All-American, an All-CCHA selection, and majored in physical education. Prior to his time at Miami, Andy played two seasons under Coach Watson for the Compuware Ambassadors in the NAHL. Greene played at Trenton High School under Coach Turner, and was voted Michigan’s “Mr. Hockey,” awarded annually to the outstanding high school hockey player in Michigan.

1998 - Freshman on THS scored winning goal to win State Championship Title
2000 – as a junior, was selected Mr. Hockey by the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association (MHSHCA), the first junior to receive that award. Additional MHSHCA awards - All State Team and Dream Team.

Greene was a four-year letter winner on defense for the RedHawks from 2002-06. The blueliner totaled 114 points in 159 career games, scoring 27 goals while adding 87 assists. He is tied for 35th in school history in career points while his 159 games played tie for sixth in school history. Greene was a three-time captain for Miami, serving as an assistant in 2003-04 before taking on full-time captain duties as a junior and senior. He was a three-time First-Team All-CCHA selection, the only player in Miami history to accomplish the feat. Greene was a Hobey Baker Finalist as a senior in 2005-06 when he was also tabbed First-Team All-America. He earned Second-Team All-America as a junior and was twice named CCHA Offensive Defenseman of the Year while also earning CCHA Defensive Defenseman of the Year as a senior as well. Greene was twice named to the All-CCHA Tournament Team and was a two-time Team MVP. He led Miami to two NCAA Tournament appearances and the CCHA regular-season title as a senior in 2005-06.
