FRIDAY SEPT 9 - HALIBURTON 4 PICKERING 3 (OT) - The Panthers took on the Haliburton Huskies in Minden and opened the scoring with a Nolan Connolly PP goal late in the first. Haliburton scored two in the second and Kieran Litterick responded for the Panthers to make it 2-2 and the end of the second. The Huskies jumped ahead in the third but Nick Athanosakos sent it into OT with the tying goal with about a minute left in regulation time. Haliburton got the winner in OT, but Pickering fought hard to gain the single point in their first game of the season. Aidan Feddema took the loss in net for the Panthers.

2023-24

A MESSAGE TO THE 2022-23 PANTHERS

To Lindsay, Cavallin, Littlejohn, Pilosof, Jessli, Johnstone, Papaspyropoulos, Pickell and Ballantyne, who brought the winning culture from last season to pass on to this year’s new players…

To Athanasakos, Walsh and Moore who were brought in last summer to provide experience and stability…

To Pilosof who returned to the Panthers for the second year in a row and accumulated 33 points in 31 regular season games …

To Pickell, Toms, Williamson and Haley who will hopefully benefit from this year’s experience in their quest to play in the OHL…

To Jessli who not only led the team in goals and points but developed into a very good playmaker and passer…

To Papaspyropoulos who showed that he could be more than a thorn in the side of other teams to become a solid offensive threat (49 points in 53 games)…

To Lindsay, the captain and heart and soul of the team, who always led by example…

To Farrow, Dimitriadis, Simpson and Svicki who were brought onto the team through mid-season trades and provided immediate benefits…

To Proulx and Ballantyne who shared goaltending duties and were solid in net, each with excellent save percentages (.932 and .911, respectively)…

To Darlison and Lee who had their promising seasons cut short by injury and illness…

To Osborne, Johnstone and Athanasakos who were consistent ironmen…

To Rob Pearson, Paul Wilkins and Mitch Binnie who, over the course of the last seven months, moulded these players into an exciting, hard-working team that ever gave up and one that other teams really didn’t care to play against…

To Richard Pilosof, the best owner the Panthers have ever had…

To Bill, Luke, Jen and Steve whose countless hours behind the scene were critical to the team’s success…

To Joe and the game day support staff and volunteers…

and to the other Panther scouts and skills coaches who assisted the team….

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL FOR PROVIDING AN EXCITING AND ENJOYABLE SEASON!

GAME 5  FRIDAY MAR 17 - MILTON 6 PICKERING 2 - The Panthers took on the Menace down 3 games to 1 in the series without their leading scorer in the lineup. Milton opened the scoring late in the first and thing did not look good when they jumped ahead 2-0 in the first minute of the second. However, Nick Atahanasakos broke the ice for the Panthers at the six minute mark and that gave the team a bit of lift. Although Pickering had additional opportunities to score, their power play went 0-7 and Milton scored three more times in the second to put the game out of reach and to put an end to the Panther's season.

GAME 4  WEDNESDAY MAR 15 - MILTON 6 PICKERING 5 - A game that started out so promising turned into a disaster in the third period as the Panthers again got stuck in their own zone and allowed Milton to pump in four unanswered goals. As in each of the previous games, Pickering jumped into an early lead on an Aron Jessli goal at 1:34 and this was followed by another by Ben Pickell six minutes later after a scramble in the Menace goal crease. Pickering added two more in the second on goals by Ethan Lindsay and Lucas Littlejohn (PP) to make it 4-0. Pickell added another PP goal to give the Panthers a 5-2 lead at the end of two.

The wheels came off in the third as Milton scored four goals for the 6-5 victory. Not sure if the Panthers were fatigued or overly conscious of protecting their lead, but whatever the case, as they did in the second game, they stopped skating and watched Milton control the play and pick away one goal at a time until it was over. The Panthers now have a monumental task as they are down 3-1 in games and on the brink of elimination. One thing about this team as they have shown all year ... they are not out of this and they now need to refocus on winning the next game at home on Friday night.

GAME 3  SUNDAY MAR 12 - PICKERING 4 MILTON 0 - Everyone dug deep tonight and sent a message to the Menace that this series is far from over. For the third game in a row, Pickering took the lead in the first but this time, they held it to the end, shutting out Milton 4-0. Nick Athanasakos got the only goal of the first and Eli Pilosof got another late in the second. Pickering played a smart game throughout, taking only one minor penalty. Everyone bought into the system and everyone played hard for the win.

Aron Jessli finished it off scoring into an empty net with two minutes remaining and added another on a power play in the final minute. Reece Proulx was great in net stopping all 29 Milton shots.

GAME 2  FRIDAY MAR 10 - MILTON 5 PICKERING 2 - The boys started out well last night, holding 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the first period on goals by Eli Pilosof and Ben Pickell. For Pickell, it was his 9th goal in the past 11 games. This game was decided on undisciplined penalties, as the Panthers conceded a power play goal early in the second and then another while playing two men short a few minutes later. All of a sudden, Pickering stopped skating and were content on trying to block shots in front of their net and to watch Milton control play in the Panther's zone. The inevitable happened as the Menace pumped in two more goals before the end of the second period and that was the game.

Pickering now needs to dig themselves out of a hole as they did when they lost the first games to Toronto in the Buckland Cup final last year. We'll see if this year's team is able to do the same.

GAME 1  WEDNESDAY MAR 8 - MILTON 3 PICKERING 2 - The game was exactly what everyone expected it to be - a battle between two evenly matched teams. Every foot of the ice was contested. Nick Athanasakos opened the scoring, stealing the puck at centre on a penalty kill and scoring a pretty short-handed goal to put the Panthers up 1-0. Milton got the equalizer mid way through the second on a goal that Pickering argued was scored with the net off the moorings. Ben Pickell converted a beautiful Ethan Osborne pass two minutes later to put the Panthers back in front.

Milton tied it up again in the third and it stayed that way until a Pickering penalty with two minutes remaining gave Milton another opportunity. They took advantage, scoring the winning goal with a minute remaining in regulation. Pickering received 54 penalty minutes to Milton's 10 minutes. Reece Proulx was outstanding in net, making 37 saves.

PLAYOFFS

SUNDAY MAR 5 - TORONTO 7 PICKERING 1 - The final regular season game gave the Panthers an opportunity to rest a number of players, since they had already clinched fourth place in the Division. Alex Papaspyropoulos scored his 19th of the season on a power play and that's all Pickering could manage in this one.

SATURDAY MAR 4 - STOUFFVILLE 5 PICKERING 3 - The Spirit were full value for their win tonight, jumping ahead of the injury depleted Panthers 2-0 in the first period. Pickering came to life on Aron Jessli's 25th of the season six minutes into the second and they tied it up on a Ben Pickell power play goal a few minutes later. Stouffville got two more early in the third and Eli Pilosof got another shortly after, but it was too little too late.

THURSDAY MAR 2 - PICKERING 6 MARKHAM 2 - Pickering looked like they were rounding into playoff form in this game as they had lots of jump in downing the Royals 6-2. Jessli, Osborne and Papaspyropoulos (PP) scored in the first to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead. Liam Walsh got another early in the second but then things got interesting as there were a rash of penalties on both sides and Markham scored a short handed goal. The turning point in the game was a Reece Proulx save on a Markham penalty shot. Ryan Johnstone got the fifth Pickering goal in the final minute of the second.

Ben Pickell got the final Panther marker in the third. Proulx was excellent in net as the Panthers outshot the Royals 34-22.

SUNDAY FEB 26 - PICKERING 3 OAKVILLE 1 - The Panthers honoured five graduating seniors in a per-game ceremony tonight - Cael Cavallin, Reece Proulx, Liam Walsh, Lucas Littlejohn and Eli Pilosof. As for the hockey, there is no love lost between these two teams in a game that saw a total of 100 penalty minutes including 5 major penalties. Oakville opened the scoring mid-way through the first but Pickering responded one minute later as Liam Walsh stole the puck at centre and scored a pretty short handed goal as he broke in alone and deked the goalie. A special night for Liam as his family was visiting for the weekend from Nova Scotia ... the first time they have been able to watched him play in person in the past three years. Alex Papaspyropoulos put Pickering ahead in the final minute of the second with a power play goal, making amends for an open net that he missed a few shifts earlier.

The Panther special teams took the spotlight in the third, fighting off their penalties and taking advantage of the open ice on their power plays with Ethan Lindsay firing home the insurance power play goal from the slot with two minutes reaming in the game. Reece Proulx was very solid in getting the win net making 30 saves,

FRIDAY FEB 24 - GEORGETOWN 5 PICKERING 2 - The Panthers got their a**** kicked tonight by the Georgetown Raiders. What was supposed to be a tune up for the playoffs and a fight for fourth place was anything but. The entire team was flat - no jump, missed passes, Raiders left wide open for easy goals ... the whole nine yards. Maybe this what the team needs to refocus for the stretch drive. Enough said.

MONDAY FEB 20 - PICKERING 6 STOUFFVILLE 3- It didn't look good for the Panthers as the Spirit buried two power play goals to take an early 2-0 lead in this Family Day matinee game. However, the never-say-die Panthers fought back with three of their own before the first period ended with a goal from Ben Pickell and two from Nick Athanasakos. The teams traded power play goals in the second (Alex Papaspyropoulos) and Ryan Johnstone and Athanasakos (EN) finished it off in the third to make it 6-3.  Nick Athanasakos had the hat trick and scored his 20th goal of the season and his 9th in the last 8 games.

SATURDAY FEB 18 - PICKERING 5 AURORA 2- The Pickering played a solid game tonight propelling themselves to a 5-2 victory over the Tigers. Aron Jessli opened the scoring converting a nifty Alex Papaspyropoulos goalmouth pass and Jessli returned the favour as Papaspyropoulos made it 2-0 at the end of the first. Aurora got the only goal of the second to close the gap, but Ryan Johnstone banged one in on a power play early in the third. Aurora again got within one before Liam Walsh and Ben Pickell (empty net) finished it off. Reece Proulx made 21 saves for his 10th win of the season. Aron Jessli now has 23 points in his 13th consecutive game scoring streak.

WEDNESDAY FEB 15 - GEORGETOWN 5 PICKERING 4 - The Panthers let this game and more importantly, the two points, slip away. Pickering held two goal leads twice in the game but couldn't finish off the Raiders. Dimitriadis and Anthanasakos converted nice passing plays in the first to give Pickering an early 2-0 lead and after Georgetown got on the board early in the second, Jessli responded 40 seconds later as the Panthers took a 3-1 lead. Georgetown got two more before the second intermission. The Raiders went ahead on a power play early in the third but Athanasakos tied it up on a Pickering power play. Georgetown got the winner with just over 3 minutes remaining. Reece Proulx stopped a questionable call penalty shot but still took the loss stopping 33 shots.

FRIDAY FEB 10 - PICKERING 10 BRANTFORD 0 - The boys came out strong tonight and got a chance to work on their offensive zone play, scoring two in the first, three in the second and five in the third while peppering the Brantford net with 66 shots. Dimitriadis and Pickell had two goals each with singles going to Svicki (1st as a Panther), Papaspyropoulos, Lindsay, Littlejohn, Athanasakos and Jessli. Brantford had 30 penalty minutes to Pickering's 4 and the Panthers went 4-10 on the power play.

Reece Proulx got back into game form after an extended injury layoff, stopping all 21 shot for his fourth shut out and ninth win of the season. With the win, Pickering again jumped back into fourth spot in the conference ahead of the Milton Menace.

TUESDAY FEB 7 - PICKERING 7 CALEDON 3 - A rough and tumble affair in this afternoon's match in the Den. The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the middle of the second but the Blades kept chipping away inn the remainder of the game to make it 6-3 and then scored their fourth short handed in the final minute. Lindsay and Papaspyropoulos each had a pair with Toms and Johnstone each adding singles. Lucas Littlejohn and Aron Jessli each had three assists. Jessli extends his point streak to 10 games with 6 goals and 11 assists over that period.

Andrew Ballantyne got his 18th win of the season. The Panthers outshot the Blades 46-31 and took 25 penalty minutes to Oakville's 41.

FRIDAY FEB 3 - PICKERING 4 BRANTFORD 4 (2OT) - Certainly not one of the Panthers' better games as they coughed up two goal leads twice in the game to settle for a tie in double OT. Charlie Key (AP) and Nick Athanasakos (PP) staked Pickering to a 2-1 lead after one and Cael Cavallin added another on the PP early in the second to put the Panthers up 3-1. It was 4-2 early in the third as Ethan Toms converted a Liam Walsh pass at the side of the net, but Pickering's sloppy defensive play caught up to them again as Brantford made it 4-3 and then added a power play goal to tie it at four and force overtime. Two OT period solved nothing as the game ended tied at four. The Panthers outshot the 99ers 69-19.

THURSDAY FEB 2 - PICKERING 7 CALEDON 3 - It took the boys a while to get back into game shape, but once they got rolling, it was all over. Nick Athanasakos opened the scoring mid way through the first, but Caledon tied it up and then jumped ahead early in the second with a power play goal to make it 2-1. Ben Pickell and Liam Walsh scored a minute apart as the Panthers regained the lead and never looked back. Ryan Johnstone and Aron Jessli added two more before the second period ended to give the Panthers a 5-2 lead.

Jessli and Papaspyropoulos contributed in the third before the Admirals got one more on the power play late in the game. Andrew Ballantyne got the win and with the two points, Pickering clinched a playoff spot.

FRIDAY JAN 27 - PICKERING 3 OAKVILLE 1 - A pretty even first period that saw no scoring as it took the Panthers a while to get into game mode. Jessli and Lindsay (PP) got things rolling early in the second to give Pickering a 2-0 lead and it stayed that way until the 16 minute mark of the third as the Blades spoiled Ballantyne's shut out bid and drew within one of the Panthers. Things got interesting as Pickering took a minor penalty with three minutes remaining, but the PK did their work and Athanasakos converted a Liam Walsh pass for the insurance empty net goal to make it a 3-1 final. Andrew Ballantyne made 40 saves for his 16th win of the season as Oakville outshot Pickering 41-28.

SATURDAY JAN 21 - PICKERING 6 AURORA 4 - Another come from behind victory for the Panthers. Both teams scored in the first with Cael Cavallin getting his second of the season for Pickering. Aron Jessli got his 17th to put Pickering up 2-1. but the Tigers added two more before the second period ended to take the lead. Ryan Johnstone tied it up early in the third but Aurora got another one to take the lead again.

Pickering tied it up on a power play goal by Alex Papaspyropoulos and Ethan Toms got the game winner shortly after. Alexander Dimitriadis got an empty net insurance goal with 10 seconds remaining in the game ... his third goal in three game since coming to the Panthers. Andrew Ballantyne got his 15th win of the season in net.

FRIDAY JAN 20 - COLLINGWOOD 4 PICKERING 1 - Another playoff atmosphere as the shorthanded Panthers took on the Division-leading Blues. After a scoreless first, the Blues broke it open with three consecutive goals in the second. Newcomer Alexander Dimitriadis converted a great pass from Aron Jessli to get the lone Panther goal late in the period. Pickering had chances in the third to cut into the lead, especially during a 5 on 3 power play with about 5 minutes to play, but were unable to find the net. Andrew Ballantyne took the loss in the net as the Panthers were outshot 45-29.

SUNDAY JAN 8 - PICKERING 4 TRENTON 2 - For the second game in a row, the Panthers came from behind in the third period to steal a victory and for the second game in a row, it was Ethan Lindsay (15th) who led the way, this time with a rocket as he streaked in over the blue line to pick the top corner and tie the game at two. Eli Pilosof got the only goal of the first one minute into game. Both teams had numerous chances in the second and Trenton capitalized twice, but Pickering couldn't solve goalie Ben Bonisteel in the Golden Hawk's net.

Lucas Littlejohn put the Panthers on top with a shot that was much like Lindsay's into the same top corner and newcomer Alexander Dimitriadis got his first as a Panther into an empty net in the final minute to seal the victory. Andrew Ballantyne was once again solid in net turning aside 39 shots.

FRIDAY JAN 6 - PICKERING 5 BURLINGTON 3 - A huge win for the Panthers in what was another playoff-like game. Both teams were even at one after the first, with Ethan Osborne getting the Panthers on the board. The teams traded power play goals in the second as Nick Athanosakos potted his eleventh. The Cougar goal came on a 5 on 3 power play. It didn't look good for Pickering as a mistake in their own end cost them a goal mid-way through the third, but the boys showed great determination and grit to even it up on an unassisted goal by Ethan Lindsay and then they went up by one on a deflection by Hayden Simpson on a Lucas Littlejohn shot from the point. Ryan Johnstone sealed the victory with an empty net goal with 46 seconds remaining in the third.

Andrew Ballantyne came into the game four minutes into the second to take over from an injured Reece Proulx following a goalie interference call. Ballantyne was solid and made a couple of outstanding stops to seal the victory and help the Cats gain an important two points.

THURSDAY JAN 5 - PICKERING 7 BRANTFORD 2 - 2023 got off to a good start as seven different Panthers contributed goals in their win over the 99ers. Athanasakos (10) and Toms (5) in the first, Littlejohn (4), Walsh (3), Jessli (16) and Lee (6) in the second and Pilosof (15) in the third. Pickering outshot Brantford 54-26 and Andrew Ballantyne got his 12th win of the season in net.

2023

TUESDAY DEC 20 - COLLINGWOOD 3 PICKERING 2 - A game that had the potential to be a playoff preview was certainly not that as Pickering looked out of sync throughout. It's not very often that the Panthers are outhustled and outhit, but today was one of those games. The close score flattered the Panthers and not even Reece Proulx could pull this one out. Hayden Simpson got Pickering on the board seven minutes into the first but the Blues responded near the end of the period after Pickering coughed up the puck deep in their own end. Collingwood took the lead 37 seconds into the second but Aron Jessli scored his team leading 15th goal shortly after. The Blues got what proved to be the winning goal on a power play half way through the second and that was it for scoring.

The Panthers were outshot 39 28 in this one. This was the final game of 2022 for the boys and they will now have a chance to relax over their Christmas break, refocus and come out firing for the final two months of the regular season.

Merry Christmas to all and a very happy and healthy New Year!

SUNDAY DEC 18 - PICKERING 3 COBOURG 2  - The Cougars wasted no time in this one, scoring 27 seconds into the game. Cael Cavallin responded a minute and a half later with his first of the season to tie it up. Nick Athanasakos put the Panthers in front 2-1 scoring his ninth of the year on a power play at 6:37. That was all the scoring until Cobourg tied the game early in the third. Wilson Farrow was the hero four minutes into OT, scoring his 8th goal of the season for the Panthers.

Reece Proulx got the win making 53 saves in the net.

FRIDAY DEC 16 - PICKERING 6 MISSISSAUGA 0  - A bit of a snooze fest here in the first period with not much happening. Aron Jessli got things rolling for the Panthers mid way through the second with the prettiest goal of the night, snapping the puck into the top corner to finish off a three way passing play from Hayden Simpson and Ethan Lee. Alex Papaspyropoulos added a power play goal in the second to make it 2-0 at the intermission. As play opened up a bit in the third, so did Pickering, as Pilosof,  Simpson, Athanasakos and Toms all added singles.

Pilosof and Jessli are now tied at 14 for the team lead in goals. Reece Proulx was well deserving of the shutout, his third of the season, making 30 saves and raising his Save% to 0.941.

TUESDAY DEC 13 - WELLINGTON 3 PICKERING 1  - Another home loss, this time to the Dukes in another afternoon matinee. A short-staffed Panther team put up a good fight against the Dukes, but two power play goals from the top ranked power play team in the league proved the difference. By contrast, Pickering went 0 for 3 on their power plays. Eli Pilosof got the lone Panther goal, his 6th in the last four games.  Andrew Ballantyne played really well in net, making several outstanding saves on what looked like sure goals.

SUNDAY DEC 11 - BURLINGTON 3 PICKERING 2  - Pickering showed a lot of determination in this one and almost sent the game into OT, but the Cougars scored the winning goal on a power play with about a minute and a half remaining in regulation. Reece Proulx was outstanding in the loss, making 41 saves and had no chance to stop the winner. Eli Pilosof got his twelfth goal of the season to tie the game in the first. After a scoreless second, the Panthers took the lead on a goal by Aron Jessli early in the third as he crossed the blue line and sent a blistering screened shot past the defenseman and the Cougar goalie.

Burlington outshot the Panthers 44-30. Although Pickering was missing five regulars in the lineup, they had their opportunities in this one but just couldn't finish them off.

FRIDAY DEC 9 - PICKERING 5 MARKHAM 1  - The Panthers got a bit of retribution tonight, having lost their last two games against the Royals. Eli Pilosof recorded a natural hat trick after early goals by Hayden Simpson and Nick Athanasakos (power play). It was Simpson's first as a Panther.  It certainly wasn't a textbook display of hockey from either team, but Pickering used their speed to jump on the Royals in the first period to gain a 4-1 lead. Andrew Ballantyne was very solid in net, making 45 stops for his 11th win of the season.

WEDNESDAY DEC 7 - PICKERING 5 NORTH YORK 0  - The Panthers travelled west today for a rare afternoon match with the North York Rangers, the team with the second highest penalty minutes in the league and we saw why. Pickering goals came from Vann Williamson and Aron Jessli in the first period and then power play goals from Wilson Farrow and Eli Pilosof  in the second. Nick Athanasakos added another in the third. The game saw a total of 92 minutes in penalties .... 34 for the Panthers and 58 for North York. Reece Proulx got the shutout with 19 saves, several of them outstanding.

SUNDAY DEC 4 - PICKERING 4 MILTON 3  - The Panthers erased a two goal deficit in this one, pulling off a gutsy 4-3 come from behind victory over the Menace. Milton went ahead 2-0 in the first, but power play goals by Ryan Johnstone and Aron Jessli and another by Ben Pickell made it 3-3 at the second intermission. Nick Athanasakos got the game winner in the final minute of play as he converted an Ethan Lindsay two on one pass. The Panthers were outshot 32-20, but Andrew Ballantyne was outstanding in net to gain the victory.

SATURDAY DEC 3 - GEORGETOWN 8 PICKERING 3  - The Raiders scored three in the first and three in the second to take a commanding 6-2 lead over the Panthers. Ben Pickell got both of the Pickering goals. Georgetown added a power play  and short handed goal in the third as an added insult in the third.  Alex Papaspyropoulos got one more for the Panthers on a power play. With this loss, Pickering has given up 18 goals in the last 3 games.

SUNDAY NOV 27 - MARKHAM 4 PICKERING 1  - Does losing two straight constitute a losing streak? Perhaps not, but the Panthers haven't lost two in a row since September 30th. They fell to the Royals again today in the second of back to back games. Markham scored two minutes into the game and added another late in the period for a 2-0 lead. Pickering did everything they could in the second but despite extended play in Markham's end, the only part of the net they could find was the crossbar (three times).

The Royals went up by three in the first minute of the third before the Panthers finally got one shortly after (Aron Jessli). They had a chance to pull within one, but again couldn't score on a penalty shot with four minutes remaining. The Royals finished it off with an empty netter in the final minute of play. Reece Proulx took the loss as Pickering again outshot Markham 40-31.

FRIDAY NOV 25 - MARKHAM 6 PICKERING 3  - The Panthers fell asleep defensively for half a period and it cost them. Markham opened the scoring early in the first and Pickering responded with two power play goals 21 seconds apart late in the first period to take a 2-1 lead. The Royals tied it with a power play goal of their own early in the second and scored tree more unanswered goals within six minutes later that period and that did it. Both teams added one more in the third with Markham's into an empty net. Pickering outshot the Royals 48-34 but had difficulty finding the open net.

Wilson Farrow was again the bright light for the Panthers, as he was involved in all three Pickering goals, scoring once and assisting on the other two. He now has 6 goals and 3 assists in 5 games games with the Panthers.

FRIDAY NOV 18 - PICKERING 4 STOUFFVILLE 1 - A very strange game. Despite outshooting the Spirit 47-26, none of the Pickering forwards were able to solve Stouffville netminder Ayden Bulmer, who always seems to come up big against the Panthers. Wilson Farrow didn't have that problem, as the newcomer scored a hat trick with the final goal an empty netter. Lucas Littlejohn got the other as the defense accounted for all four Panther goals. This was a close contest until Pickering broke the game open in the third. Farrow is making an impact with the Panthers, scoring 5 goals in his 4 games since coming over from North York Rangers.

Reece Proulx made some outstanding saves to record the win. He now holds a 1.40 GAA and tops the league with a 1.57 Save %.

TUESDAY NOV 15 - COLLINGWOOD 7 PICKERING 5 - This was playoff hockey in November  ... fast paced, hard hitting with lots of scoring. Wilson Farrow started the Panthers off early with his second in two games and Ethan Lee and Ethan Lindsay each added goals to give Pickering a 3-2 lead after one period. Pickering went up two goals on Aron Jessli's breakaway goal but the Blues answered with two of their own, Alex Papaspyropoulos put one in from behind the goal line and Collingwood scored shorthanded to make it 5-5 at the second intermission.

Collingwood added two more in the third for the win. The Panthers did well, considering they were missing four regular defensemen, three of them to suspensions. Andrew Ballantyne took the loss. The Panthers get an shot at redemption as they again host the Blues this coming Sunday.

SATURDAY NOV 12 - PICKERING 6 OAKVILLE 4 - Pickering travelled west for an afternoon matinee with the Blades and had a rare offensive outburst. Eli Pilosof registered a hat trick and had another disallowed with the net off the moorings just as the puck entered the net. Ethan Lindsay added a pair and newcomer Wilson Farrow added another on the power play. Aron Jessli had four assists and is now the Panther's point leader. Andrew Ballantyne was solid in net making 37 saves to earn his ninth win of the year.

The game got a little chippy as Oakville's frustrations grew and that resulted in two Panther suspensions in the final minute of play. Pickering will now need to deal with a rash of suspensions to their D as they take on Collingwood on Tuesday.

FRIDAY NOV 11 - PICKERING 1 AURORA 1 (2OT) -  A close affair throughout that ended deadlocked at one goal each through two OT period. The Panthers stuck first as Alex Papaspyropoulos converted a beautiful pass from Aron Jessli in the first, Pickering had the better of the play in the first, but the Tigers poured it on in the third and finally were rewarded with a power play goal in the third to tie it up. Both teams had their chances the the OT periods but the goalies stood tall. Reece Proulx made 35 saves in the Pickering net.

SUNDAY NOV 5 - PICKERING 2 PATRIOTS 1 - Love those OT victories! A weary group of Cats visited the Toronto Patriots for their third game in three days and managed to pull out another OT win. Eli Pilosof tied the game at one late in the second period and in the first OT, Ethan Lee one-timed a beautiful cross ice pass from Ben Pickell for the game winner. Reece Proulx was terrific in net for Pickering making 43 saves.

FRIDAY NOV 4 - PICKERING 3 MILTON 1  -  Pickering is playing solid hockey right now and it showed again against the Menace as they secured their 6th win in a row. Liam Walsh had a big night, scoring his first OJHL goal in the second to tie the game and then got his second on a Panther PP early in the  third. Ethan Lee banged in a rebound later in the third to secure the win. Reece Proulx got his third win in a row making 30 saves.

THURSDAY NOV 3 - PICKERING 3 BRANTFORD 0 - Off to a good start at the beginning of a 3 game weekend! Pickering had their way with the 99ers as Ryan Johnstone and Jamie Darlison scored in the second and Eli Pilosof added a shorthanded, empty net goal for the 3-0 victory. Andrew Ballantyne got his first OJHL shutout as Pickering outshot Brantford 43-22.

SUNDAY OCT 30 - PICKERING 3 ST MICHAELS 2 - Love those OT victories! The Panthers pulled off their third OT victory of the season and the second this weekend as they defeated the Buzzers 3-2 Sunday afternoon. Ethan Lindsay scored twice, including the game winner, and Lucas Littlejohn got his first of the season. Andrew Ballantyne made 38 saves for his seventh win of the season. Pickering is now on a five game win streak.

FRIDAY OCT 28 - PICKERING 2 HALIBURTON 1  -  Pickering dug deep against one of the top teams in the South-East Conference and eventually came out on top in double OT. The top two point leaders for the Panthers, Aron Jessli and Nick Anthanaskos came through with Pickering's goals and Reece Proulx made 31 saves for his second win in net.

The Panthers were 1-5 on the power play and outshot Haliburton 47-32.

SUNDAY OCT 23 - PICKERING 5 MARKHAM 0 - The Panthers should have been sagging tonight playing their third in three days, but that wasn't the case, as the boys dug deep to get a convincing win over their arch rivals the Markham Royals. Ethan Toms got his first OJHL goal late in the first and added two more in the third for the hattie. Aron Jessli (PP) and Ethan Lindsay rounded out the scoring as Reece Proulx was excellent in net stopping all 36 shots he faced to get the shutout.

SATURDAY OCT 22 - PICKERING 4 AURORA 3 -  This was a back and forth game. Aurora opened the scoring in the second but Aron Jessli and William Moore added singles for the Cats to make it 2-2 at the second intermission. Nick Athanasakos put Pickering ahead in the third but the Tigers tied it to send it into OT. Eli Pilosof was the hero for the Panthers scoring 3 minutes into OT getting an important 2 points.

FRIDAY OCT 21 - GEORGETOWN 2 PICKERING 0 -  Both goalies shone tonight as scoring was hard to come by. Georgetown finally broke the ice getting their first goal seven minutes into the third. Pickering had their chances, including a breakaway and six power plays but were unable to find the back of the net. The Raiders added an empty net insurance goal in the final minute of play.

Reece Proulx was terrific in net making 31 saves including one on a break away. The Panthers are currently fourth last in league scoring.

SUNDAY OCT 16 - PICKERING 3 LINDSAY 2 -  The Cats scratched out a hard-fought win tonight over the Muskies in a hard hitting match. Lindsay took it to Pickering in the first period, but neither team managed to score. The Panthers came out more energized in the second and Alex Papaspyropoulos scored his fourth of the season four minutes into the second period. Lindsay tied it up a minute later, but Eli Pilosof put Pickering ahead again to give them a 2-1 lead at the second intermission. The Muskies tied it up in the third and Mitchell Ferras got the winning goal midway through the third and Pickering held on for the 3-2 victory.

Andrew Ballantyne was solid in net making 30 saves for his fifth win of the season.

FRIDAY OCT 14 - MILTON 4 PICKERING 1 -  Not much to talk about here as the Panthers had very few scoring chances against the best team that they have faced so far this season. Ethan Lindsay got the only Pickering goal on a deflection mid way through the third to break the shutout. A number of undisciplined penalties taken by the Panthers broke any rythym they were trying to build and led to one of the Menace power play goals. Newcomer Reece Proulx faced 36 shots in net.

SATURDAY OCT 8 - PICKERING 2 OAKVILLE 1 -  Second win in a row for the Cats in what was a pretty even match. Ethan Lee got the ball rolling for Pickering two minutes into the game and Aron Jessli added the game winner early in the second with a short handed breakaway goal. The Blades got a power play goal later in the second and that was all the scoring as Andrew Ballantyne got his second win of the weekend in net.

FRIDAY OCT 7 - PICKERING 3 AURORA 2 -  A pretty even match in the first resulted in a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes, with Ryan Johnstone getting the Panther goal. Three straight penalties in the second seemed to slow the Panthers down after Aurora scored the only goal two minutes into the period. The Tigers took three more penalties than the Panthers in the third and Pickering took advantage on two of them with Aron Jessli firing a rocket from the right circle and Alex Papaspyropoulos pottting the winner. The Panthers were outshot 34-22 and Andrew Ballantyne held the fort in the net for the win.

SATURDAY OCT 1 - COLLINGWOOD 4 PICKERING 3 - Pickering played the undefeated Blues tough in the second of back to back games, holding Collingwood to a 3-3 tie at the end of the second on power play goals from Ethan Lee and Aron Jessli and another marker from Ryan Johnstone. The Blues got the winning goal in the middle of the third and held on for the victory. Pickering was outshot 38-19 and Andrew Ballantyne took both weekend losses in net.

FRIDAY SEPT 30 - COLLINGWOOD 6 PICKERING 2 -  This was a game that got away from the Panthers over a three and a half minute span of the second period when the Blues scored three consecutive goals, one on the power play. Up to that point, it was a 1-1 score with Pickering's goal coming from Nick Athansakos. Jamie Darlison got one back early in the third on the power play but the Blues added two more later in the period for the 6-2 win.

SATURDAY SEPT 24 - GEORGETOWN 5 PICKERING 3 - The Panthers travelled to Georgetown but came home disappointed, losing 5-3 to the Raiders, despite outshooting the Raiders 38-28. It was tied at two after the first period on goals from Alex Papaspyropoulos and Zach Christie, but the Raiders scored one more in the second and two in the third before Paps got his second of the game in the final minute of play. Ethan Beattie took the loss in the net.

FRIDAY SEPT 23 - PICKERING 4 BRANTFORD 2 -  An exciting opening night at the den with the raising of last season's championship banner and distribution of rings to those players able to make the game. Despite outshooting the 99ers 25-6 in the first two periods, the Panthers were behind 1-0. William Moore broke the ice in the third scoring on a shot from the point and that got the ball rolling. Ryan Johnstone banged in a rebound a couple of minutes later to give the Cats the lead and Ethan Lindsay converted a nice pass from Nick Athanasakos to make it 3-1. For Lindsay, it was his 5th goal in the last five games.

Brantford got one back to pull to within one, but Charlie key potted another rebound to make it a 4-2 final. Andrew Ballantyne got his second win of the season in net stopping 18 shots.

GOVERNOR'S SHOWCASE

SEPT 19 -  BURLINGTON 5 PICKERING 3 - Panthers surrendered 2-0 and 3-1 leads to the Cougars allowing four unanswered goals in the second and third period. Lindsay, Osborne and Christie tallied for the Panthers and Andrew Ballantyne recorded the loss in net.

â€‹SEPT 20 - MILTON 5 PICKERING 3 - this was a close game ... tied at one after the first and at three after the second. Milton scored twice in the third for the win, both on the power play. The Menace were 3 of 4 on the power play and that proved to be the difference. Lindsay (his 5th in 5 games), Haley and Williamson scored for the Panthers and Richard Szajek took the loss in net.

SATURDAY SEPT 17 -  PICKERING 6 STOUFFVILLE 3-  The Panthers got stronger as the game went on in this one. Ethan Lindsay and Jamie Darlison scored in the first to make it 2-2 at the intermission. Mitch Ferras broke in all alone and put it top shelf to tie the game at three and Nick Athanasaskos converted a pass from Jessli on the power play to give Pickering a 3-2 lead at the second intermission. The Panthers added three more in the third on goals from Ryan Johnstone, Darlison again and a beauty from Charlie Key as he a slipped past the D man at the blueline and then deked the goalie to make it 6-3. Newcomer Ethan Beattie got the win making 21 saves as Pickering outshot the Spirit 35-24.

FRIDAY SEPT 16 - PICKERING 4 BURLINGTON 2 -  A big come from behind win for the Panthers as familiar names filled the score sheet. Aron Jessli scored the first Pickering goal of the season in the second to tie the game at one apiece, but the Cougars went ahead 2-1 later in the period. Ethan Lindsay got a power play goal in the third to tie the game and then he scored another 6 seconds later to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead. Jessli got his second of the game into an empty net to seal the first win of the season. Andrew Ballantyne got the win in the net making 28 saves.

SATURDAY SEPT 10 - STOUFFVILLE 3 PICKERING O -  A new season got underway for the Cats with mostly new players and stylish new sweaters. The first period was mostly a feeling out exercise for both teams with no scoring. The Panthers had much of the play in the second, outshooting the Spirit but unable to put one past Ayden Bulmer in the Stouffville net. The Spirit finally broke the ice with 4 seconds left to play in the second period as Pickering dropped their guard.

Stouffville jumped ahead 2-0 seven minutes into the third after no call on an apparent Spirit icing and an immediate giveaway near the Panther net. The final goal was scored into an empty net as the Panthers pulled their goalie with two minutes to play. All in all, a reasonable start for a group of new players who showed promise, but will take a bit of time to come together.

2021-22

The 2021-22 Panthers had a phenominal season, setting a franchise record for regular season points (82), winning the OJHL championship (Buckland Cup), and proudly representing Ontario in progressing all the way to the championship game of the Centennial Cup, coming close to upsetting the top ranked team in the country. They had a coach (Rob Pearson) who won three coaching awards (OJHL, OHA, CJHL) and a player (Brendan Tomilson) who was named best defenseman in the OJHL.

From all of their fans, thanks for the memories.

FINAL                        BROOKS BANDITS 4     PICKERING 1 - Pickering once again faced the top ranked team in Canada and the Panthers drew first blood in the first period on a goal by Doyle. Despite being outshot 28-4 over two periods, Pickering held the lead until the 7 minute mark of the third with Roy making save after save. Brooks finally broke the ice and then scored three more to make it a 4-1 final.

SEMI-FINAL             PICKERING 2    DAUPHIN KINGS - Partridge (short-handed) and Rowe were the only scorers as Roy shut out the Kings with a stellar performance. On to the championship game!

QUARTERFINAL   PICKERING 3    FLIN FLON BOMBERS 2 (OT) -  the Panthers came back from a two goal deficit on short-handed goals by Hutton and Altomare to send the game to OT. Cavallin got the winner about 5 minutes into OT.

GAME 4                     BROOKS BANDITS 9     PICKERING 1 - this is one the Panthers want to forget as they took 61 minutes in penalties to the Bandit's 31 minutes. Brooks scored on 6 of their 10 power plays which included a couple of 5 on 3 opportunities. Hutton got the lone Panther goal in the third.

GAME 3                     PICKERING 3     COLLEGE FRANCAIS DE LONGUEUIL 2 (OT) - Papaspyropoulos scored the only Pickering goal as they trailed 2-1 going into the third, but Partridge scored in the third to send the game to OT and Martin got the game winner 48 seconds into OT on a breakaway.

GAME 2                     PICKERING 10     ESTEVAN BRUINS 5 - Another high scoring affair that was tied at five after two. Panther scorers included Hutton (3), Martin (2), Littlejohn, Doyle (2), Partridge and Henderson.

GAME 1                     PICKERING 9      RED LAKE MINERS 2 - Pickering got off to a great start on goals by LaPalm, Pilosof, Hutton, Pickell, Martin (2), Partridge (2) and Doyle.

CENTENNIAL CUP

THURSDAY MAY 12 (GAME 7) - PICKERING 3 TORONTO 2 - Pickering finally realized their goal this year by winning the Buckland Cup in dramatic fashion. Toronto opened the scoring early in the first period but Ian Martin tipped in a shot by Eli Pilosof to make it 1-1 at the end of the first. Ethan Doyle banged in a rebound off a shot by Ian Martin to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead but the Jr Canadiens managed a short-handed goal late in the second to tie it up.

The third period was dramatic - Toronto took the lead with a power play goal and Eli Pilosof tied it as he converted a rebound on Altomare's point shot.. Toronto had what looked like the winning goal called back for goaltender interference and Ryan Johnstone became the Panther hero as he took a pass from Brendan Tomilson and slipped it past the JrC's goalie for the clincher with 37 seconds remaining in the game. Zach Roy got the win. On to the Centennial Cup!

TUESDAY MAY 10 - PICKERING 2 TORONTO 1  -  What a game! This was playoff hockey at its best - back and forth action, numerous chances at each end of the ice and fantastic goaltending. Toronto opened the scoring early with a power play goal in the second on a shot wide of the net that hit a leg and deflected in. Pickering responded half way through the period as Ethan Doyle tied it up and that's the way it remained through the rest of regulation and a period and a half of OT. Once again, the Panthers had a go ahead goal waved off as the JrC net was magically dislodged from its moorings by the Toronto goaltender as Dustin Hutton fired the puck into the net. This was the second goal of the series called back for the same reason as well as several other stoppages of play that seem to happen when the Panthers are pressing ... is there a pattern here?

Hutton got his revenge at 8:29 of the second OT, banging in a game winning rebound created on a Jake Partridge rush. That was Hutton's 8th goal in 12 playoff games. Zach Roy was brilliant in the Panther net, making 43 saves to get the win. With their third win in a row, Pickering is now one win away from the Buckland Cup and a trip to the Canadian finals at the Centennial Cup in Saskatchewan.

SUNDAY MAY 8 - PICKERING 4 TORONTO 0  -  The Panthers seem to be gathering momentum as they played a solid game all over the ice today and skated away with the 4-0 victory. Ethan Doyle got things started for Pickering, converting a nice pass from Lucas Rowe to score the first goal from the deep slot. Pickering gave Toronto no space in period two and finally converted one of their chances when Alex Papaspyropoulos wheeled out from the side boards to between the circles and scored the Panther's second goal at the 7:24 mark. Lucas Rowe scored the third goal on a power play in the final minute of the second to put the Panthers up 3-0 going into the intermission.

The third period got very spirited with both sides sending numerous players to the penalty box. Pickering was handed 40 minutes in penalties and Toronto 28 minutes. Lucas LaPalm sealed the victory with an empty net goal with three minutes remaining in the game. The Panther PK was solid again, not allowing a goal in 5 Toronto power plays, including one 5 on 3. Zach Roy was outstanding in the Panther net,  making 37 saves for the shutout and his seventh win of the playoffs.

FRIDAY MAY 6 - PICKERING 5 TORONTO 4  -  Shades of the first period in game 1 when the JrCs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after eight minutes of the first period on two power play goals and a short handed marker. Hearts sank a bit in the Pickering fans but not in the team, as they seemed even more determined to pull it out. Pickering made a goalie change and Jake Partridge got one back shortly after to make it 3-1.

As we have seen all year, you can never count this team out. The boys came out flying in the second as Dustin Hutton notched his second short handed goal of the series one minute in and Myles Perry tied it a couple of minutes later.  Toronto jumped ahead again two minutes later, but the Panthers pressed and Lucas Rowe scored a beauty on a break away and then scored his second to put Pickering into the lead for the first time in the series 13 seconds before the second intermission, Pickering held Toronto to only one shot in the second period.

Special teams were definitely a factor in this game with a total of 4 power play and 2 short handed goals scored. Andrew Ballantyne recorded the win in the Panther net stopping 25 shots including one spectacular save in the third period to preserve the win.

WEDNESDAY MAY 4 - TORONTO 4 PICKERING 1 -  Toronto took advantage of a power play mid-way through the first, just as the Pickering player stepped out of the penalty box, to score the opening goal of the game. Dustin Hutton fired his sixth goal of the playoffs to tie the game at 12:33 of the second. Another Panther goal in the second that would have given them the lead was called back because the Toronto goalie dislodged the net before the puck entered the net and another Pickering scoring opportunity was stopped for the same reason. The league really needs to do something about solving the net situation or else referees need to start using their discretion about how the net was dislodged instead of waving off goals. In any event, this was not how the game was won or lost tonight.

This was a close 1-1 game going into the third period but the JrCs took advantage of their opportunities, scoring 8:45 into the third and then adding another goal on a breakaway 13 seconds later to break the game open. They added an empty net goal with a minute remaining to secure the win. The Panthers had their chances, particularly in the second period and on their six power plays, but were unable to find the net. Pickering will need to dig deep to secure a win in the next game schedule for Friday night in Toronto.

MONDAY MAY 2 - TORONTO 6 PICKERING 4 - Nice if you could eliminate the first period, but that's not how it works.  Maybe it was a bit of rust from the five day layoff or maybe it took a while to get used to the bigger ice surface, but whatever it was, the slow start certainly put the Panthers behind the eight ball. The Junior Canadiens scored four times in the first period as Pickering struggled with defensive coverage in their own end. Dustin Hutton got one back on a penalty kill in the second to make it 5-1 and that's how the second period ended.

We've seen all year that this team never quits and true to form, they gradually clawed back in the third on goals from Eli Pilosof and Ian Martin to make it 5-3. Pickering pulled the goalie with about four minutes remaining and it paid off as Martin got his second of the game and his seventh in eight playoff games to close the gap to 5-4. The Panthers pressed hard in the remaining two minutes but couldn't tie it up. The JrCs got the empty net goal with 30 seconds left to close it out.

BUCKLAND CUP

WEDNESDAY APR 27 - PICKERING 7 MILTON 2 - Well ... how much fun was that? Milton was a determined team tonight and outplayed the Panthers in the first period, pouncing on Pickering for a power play goal in the first and then added another 34 seconds into the second for a 2-0 lead. Alex Papaspyropoulos, who was a thorn in the side of the Menace in the previous two games, fought off his check in front of the net and banged it in for the first Pickering goal. Lucas Rowe tie it up later in the second as he stuffed it in the short side of the Milton net.

Ethan Lindsay scored 34 seconds into the third period on a wicked shot into the top corner from an impossible angle, and that seemed to loosen up the Panthers and deflate the Menace. Myles Perry converted a Christos Rodis pass 26 seconds later to make it 4-2 and the flood gates opened. Ian Martin (power play), Jake Partridge and Lindsay again (power play) added goals to make it a 7-2 final. Zach Roy was again terrific in the Panther net making 30 saves for the win.

With the win, the Panthers became North West Conference Champions and now play for the Buckland Cup and the league championship.

MONDAY APR 25 - PICKERING 3 MILTON 1 - This It took half a game before the first goal as the Menace tried to run Pickering out of the rinks with some heavy hitting, but the Panthers took their lumps, maintained their strong checking game, withstood a five on three for a minute and a half and then Myles Perry scored the first goal of the game on a deflection off a shot on net by Christos Rodis. Newcomer Ryan Johnston got his second of the playoffs six minutes into the third to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead, but Milton gone their first two minutes later to cut the lead to one. Ian Martin scored his fourth of the playoffs on a power play to restore Pickering's two goal lead and that's how it ended.

Zach Roy was terrific in net, stopping 24 shots and the Panther penalty killing was solid again as Milton went 0-5 on the power play. The Panthers have a chance to finish the series Wednesday night back in the Den.

SATURDAY APR 23 - PICKERING 4 MILTON 3 - This looks like it's going to be an epic contest as both teams opened the series fighting for every inch of ice. Power plays were a huge factor in the outcome with the Panthers scoring four times with the man advantage and Milton once. The Menace opened the scoring two and a half minutes into the game on a weird bounce in front of the Pickering goal that was quickly banged into the net. The Panthers responded eight minutes later with goals from Ian Martin and Dustin Hutton to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission. A third Pickering goal was waved off as the Menace goalie dislodged the net before the puck entered the net. The OJHL needs to do something to solve the net issue - the nets come off their moorings far to easily and it completely disrupts the game and often denies teams key goals ... just ask the Burlington Cougars!

Myles Perry added another power play goal early in the second for a 3-1 Panther lead but Milton later got one back. Christos Rodis collected a great pass from Matthew Altomare at centre ice and broke in alone to score what proved to be the winner at the 17 minute mark of the second period. Milton got their own power play goal with eight minutes remaining in regulation to narrow the margin to 4-3 and that's how it ended. Pickering outshot Milton 34-22 and Zach Roy got the win with his strong play in the Panther net.

NORTH WEST CONFERENCE FINAL

WEDNESDAY APR 20 - PICKERING 3 COLLINGWOOD 0 - The Panthers jumped on the Blues early in this one, hemming them in their end for sustained periods of the first period and outshooting Collingwood 14-7. AP Ryan Johnstone banged in a rebound to score his first OJHL goal to give the Panthers the lead at the five minute mark. Ian Martin made it 2-0 late in the period and from that point on, it was just a matter of playing out the rest of the game. Eli Pilosof added a breakaway goal in the third to cement the victory.

Pickering outshot Collingwood 31-18 and Zach Roy got the shutout, vaulting the Panthers into the Conference Finals against the Milton Menace.

SUNDAY APR 17 - PICKERING 2 COLLINGWOOD 1 - It was another OT win for the Panthers as they took a 1-0 game lead in their best of three series against the Collingwood Blues. This was a typical playoff game - fast paced, hard checking, back and forth hockey with each team having sustained pressure for portions of the game. Zach Roy gave up the only Collingwood goal of the game on a bizarre play when his clearing attempt from beside the net hit an attacking Blues player and deflected into the Pickering net. Lucas Littlejohn tied it up later in the first period on a Pickering power play with a shot from the point and that was all the scoring in regulation time. The Panthers controlled the play in the Collingwood end for much of the second period when they outshot the Blues 16-5 but couldn't solve Noah Pak in the Collingwood net.

The game was decided 6:34 into the first overtime when Ian Martin took a pass from Myles Perry, circled around the left faceoff circle and let a shot go from the deep slot that found the far corner of the Blues net. Pickering now has a 10-4 OT win record for the season.

THURSDAY APR 14 - PICKERING 6 STOUFFVILLE 5 OT - Not the way you would expect to win a game, but we'll take it. The Panthers fell behind 2-0 early in this one and the Spirit gradually increased their lead to 5-1 by the end of the second. Stouffville got their first only 30 seconds into the game on a giveaway in the Panther end and added another on a short handed breakaway. It was 3-0 in the second before Ethan Lindsay's dogged determination on the PK resulted in a breakaway and a  short handed goal. The Spirit added two more before the second period ended to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the second intermission.

With a goalie Andrew Ballantyne replacing Zach Roy to start the third, Pickering began to control the play and gradually chipped away at the Stouffville lead on goals from Josh Simpson, Lucas LaPalm and Matthew Altomare. The Spirit appeared to tighten up and Dustin Hutton scored the equalizer on a great pass from Jake Partridge with about five minutes remaining in regulation time. Pickering outshot the Spirit 16-7 in the third period. The Panthers carried that momentum into the OT and Dustin Hutton was the hero at the 2:50 mark as he gathered up the puck in the corner, rushed behind the net, cut out in front and found the short side of the net for the series winning goal.

The Panthers will now meet the Collingwood Blues in the North Division final beginning Sunday night in Pickering.

SUNDAY APR 10 - PICKERING 4 STOUFFVILLE 2 - Pickering drew first blood in the opening game of their playoff series with the Spirit with a 4-2 win. The first period was a feeling out process for both teams as they each scored once. Christos Rodis converted a great pass from Ian Martin to blast it into the top corner and tie the game at one a piece about a minute before the intermission. The Panthers came out flying in the second, and even though they peppered the Stouffville net, Ayden Bulmer stood on his head and only allowed one goal - that from Matthew Altomare on a screened shot from the blue line that never left the ice. Dustin Hutton added another later in the period - this time a short-handed goal on a terrific pass from Jake Partridge to give Pickering a 3-2 lead going into the second  intermission.

Pickering continued to press the Spirit in the third and Lucas Rowe finally gave the Panthers a 4-2 cushion when he fired one to the far side of the net on a two on one break. The Panthers then held on for the remainder of the game for the win. Pickering outshot the Spirit 61-33 and Zach Roy got the win in net.

NORTH DIVISION SEMI-FINALS

MONDAY APR 4 - GEORGETOWN 3 PICKERING 1 - Not the way they wanted to end the regular season, but if you are going to lose a game, better this one than in the playoffs. The Panthers were a little "off" tonight - passes not on the mark, numerous off-sides at the blue line and everything just a little disjointed. Christos Rodis got a goal in the first, the Raiders tied it up in the second and it looked like overtime was coming late in the third. A bizzare goal in the final minute of play sealed the Panther's fate. Georgetown lofted the puck high from the blue line toward the Pickering net. Brendan Tomilson jumped to try to intercept the puck without success and it landed in front of Zachary Roy, bounced, and was swatted out of the air by a charging Georgetown forward into the Panther net for the winning goal. The Raiders added an empty net goal for the 3-1 win.

Ian Martin and Jake Partridge ended up tied at 56 as the Panther's point leaders, with Lucas Rowe and Brendan Tomilson tied one point behind at 55 points. The Panther's next game will be the first of the North Division semi-final playoffs against the Stouffville Spirit Sunday April 10th. Zach Roy ended the regular season with a 2.22 GAA and a .931 SV%.

SATURDAY APR 2 - PICKERING 5 AURORA 4 - Final road game of the regular season for the Panthers as they headed up the highway to take on the Tigers. Aurora jumped ahead 2-0 but Dustin Hutton got one back for Pickering before the first intermission. Ethan Lindsay continued the solid play of the Panther PK, adding a short handed goal early in the second. Alex Papaspyropoulos added his second of the season shortly after to put Pickering up 3-2, but the Tigers tied it up to make it 3-3 at the start of the third.

Aurora got a short handed goal two minutes into the third to take the lead, but the Panthers fought back to tie it up on Martin's 27th of the season and Hutton added his second of the game for the winner after great work from Jake Partridge in the front of the net. Hutton could have easily notched another couple of goals, including one that was stopped on a breakaway. The Panthers now sit at 82 points with one regular season game remaining.

TUESDAY MAR 29 - PICKERING 4 STOUFFVILLE 1 - In a preview of the first round playoff matchup, we saw two different games - the first period and the rest of the game. Stouffville came out checking hard in the first and the Panthers couldn't seem to get going. The first period ended without a goal but the Spirit easily could have been up by at least a couple. Something must have happened at the intermission because Pickering got it together and came out a different team in the second. Rowe, Martin and Tomilson scored before the seven minute mark to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. That score held until the Spirit got one back midway through the third but Tomilson restored Pickering's three goal lead shortly after on a terrific pass from Ethan Lindsay..

Tomilson's first goal gave him the Panther all time season point record for a defenseman. Andrew Ballantyne was solid in the net making 28 saves including a great stop on a breakaway to gain his tenth win of the season. The race for the Panther point lead moved even closer with Matin, Partridge and Tomilson all at 55 points and Rowe at 54.

SUNDAY MAR 27 - OAKVILLE 5 PICKERING 4  OT- This was an important game for the Blades who were trying to secure the final playoff spot in the West Division and it showed, as they fought back from 1-0, 3-1 and 4-3 deficits to finally prevail in OT. Jake Partridge opened the scoring, Kevin Lucey got his first OJHL goal and Ian Martin got two to round out the Pickering scoring. Oakville put it away at 1:18 of the first OT period collect the two points. Pickering had lots of scoring chances, especially in the second period when they hit the post twice, but couldn't convert those chances.

The race for the Panther scoring lead continued between Partridge (55), Martin (54), Rowe (53) and Tomilson (53) with three game remaining.

SATURDAY MAR 19 - PICKERING 6 AURORA 4 - Definitely playoff hockey in the Den tonight! Two teams that could soon meet in the North Division playoffs were involved in a tight checking, back and forth contest that saw the Panthers outscore the Tigers 6-4. Jake Partridge was the star of the game with two pretty goals in the third (21 & 22), one on a deke of the goalie and the other on a blast to the top corner . Rowe (23), Lindsay (10), Martin (23) and Hutton (16) each added singles. Zach Roy got the win in net.

With his three points, Partridge jumped into the lead in points for the Panthers (54), with Rowe and Tomilson one point back at 53 and Ian Martin sitting at 52. The Panthers now have a week to rest before their next game at home on Sunday night against Oakville.

FRIDAY MAR 18 - PICKERING 3 GEORGETOWN 2 OT - The Panthers set a franchise record reaching 75 points as they defeated the Raiders in OT. Eli Pilosof continued his hot streak scoring two goals, including the winner 25 seconds into OT on a deflection from the slot on a Brendan Tomilson shot. Pilosof has 7 goals and 2 assists in his last 5 games and now has 41 points in his 27 games played since returning to the Panthers in late November. Cristos Rodis got the other Panther goal, his third in as many games. Penalty killing was strong for both teams as each went scoreless on 4 power plays. Pickering now has an 8-3 OT record with five games remaining in the regular season. Zach Roy got his 20th win of the season in net.

SATURDAY MAR 12 - PICKERING 5 COLLINGWOOD 3 - The boys bounced back from their loss last night to defeat the Blues 5-3. Eli Pilosof had a big night, getting his hat trick that included two power play goals. Rodis and Martin (empty net) added singles. Pickering had 59 minutes in penalties and Collingwood 52. Not the kind of hockey you would expect to see from the Panthers with the playoffs approaching - lots of undisciplined and behind the play penalties and their power play gave up another short handed goal to the Blues. Zach Roy got his 19th win of the season.

FRIDAY MAR 11 - COLLINGWOOD 4 PICKERING 1 - Well that was interesting ... maybe it was the long bus ride? The Panthers fell behind 3-1 in the first period, thanks to a couple of soft goals and a short-handed goal. Eli Pilosof got the only Pickering goal on a nice pass from Christos Rodis. The Blues struck again in the first minute of the second and that was it for the rest of the game.

TUESDAY MAR 8 - PICKERING 3 MILTON 2 OT - WOW ... what an exciting preview of playoff hockey as the Panthers (8 wins in a row) took on the Milton Menace (7 wins in a row). A back and forth, hard-hitting game that kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout. Myles Perry got both of the Pickering goals in regulation but the Menace kept pace to send in into overtime. The Panthers looked weary in stretches of the game as a result of their 4 games in 5 days, but they came to life in the OT and Dustin Hutton converted a Jake Partridge pass to give the Panthers the win. Zach Roy was again outstanding in net for his 18th win of the season. Roy leads the league win a 1.86 GAA and a 0.944 SV %

SUNDAY MAR 6 - PICKERING 4 MARKHAM 3 - The third game in three days was a test for the Panthers as they took on a Markham team currently in a dogfight with Stouffville for the final playoff position in the North Division. This was a real back and forth affair in which the Panthers took the lead and the Royals tied it up three different times. Ethan Lindsay got it going in the first and Christos Rodis and Aron Jessli in the second to give Pickering a 3-2 lead at the second intermission. Markham tied it up in the first minute of the third and it stayed that way until an untimely Markham slashing penalty with a minute to play gave the Panthers a power play. Eli Pilosof on a rebound lofted a backhander over the sprawling goaltender with two seconds remaining in regulation to give the Panthers their eighth consecutive victory.

SATURDAY MAR 5 - PICKERING 2 AURORA 1 - This was the second battle of the Cats in a row as the Aurora Tigers hosted the Panthers. After two periods of hard hitting, tight checking and solid goaltending the game was scoreless until Aurora finally broke the ice four minutes into the third. Brendan Tomilson tied it up shortly after and it was Ethan Lindsay that banged the rebound on a Lucas LaPalm shot to give Pickering the lead. That's the way it stayed, giving Pickering an important two points in the race for first overall.

FRIDAY MAR 4 - PICKERING 2 BURLINGTON 1 - This was the battle of the Cats for first place in the league and much like the last game these two teams played, the Panthers jumped out front early and then shut the door for the victory. Brendan Tomilson and Dustin Hutton scored within a minute of each other early in the first period and that was it until the Cougars got one back in the third. For Tomilson, it was his 11th goal of the season to lead the league for defensemen and his 44th point in 43 games. Burlington outshot Pickering 41-31 and poured it on in the second half of the game, but the Panthers were solid and Zach Roy was outstanding in net, making some highlight reel saves late in the game when the Cougars pulled the goalie for the extra attacker.

The win pushed Pickering into top spot in the league with a .756 win percentage and started a difficult stretch of four games in the next five days.

SUNDAY FEB 27 - PICKERING 2 MARKHAM 1 OT - Not the way you would think that the Panthers would gain two points but they will take them any way they come. The Royals opened the scoring early in the first and it stayed that way until Dustin Hutton slid the puck under the goalies' pad into the bottom corner of the net 2 minutes into the third period to give Pickering some life. The Panthers had numerous scoring opportunities but couldn't convert them as they shot over and wide of the net. Matthew Altomare was the hero as he moved in from the point to score the game winner 17 second into OT - his second goal in as many games.

The win moved the Panthers to within two points of the league lead behind the Burlington Cougars, with Pickering playing one less game. The two teams meet for a huge game this coming Friday in Pickering.

FRIDAY FEB 25 - PICKERING 6 STOUFFVILLE 0 - The Panthers drained the spirit out of Stouffville as they jumped to a four goal lead in the first and then coasted to a 6-0 victory. Ian Martin got things started two minutes in on the power play with a nifty deke at the blue line and a rocket to the top corner. Matthew Altomare followed up with a shot from the point and Eli Pilosof added two more before the first intermission. Pilosof finished his natural hat trick in the third and Lucas Rowe got his 22nd goal in the final minute of play. Pilosof hadn't scored in his past 10 games but now has 13 goals in his 19 games this season with the Panthers.

The Spirit had lots of scoring opportunities even though they were outshot 51-29 but Zach Roy shut the door for his 14th win of the season.

THURSDAY FEB 24 - PICKERING 3 AURORA 2 - Aurora struck early in this afternoon matinee, but the Panthers responded before the first intermission as Owen Brady scored his first OJHL goal on a blast from the point. The Panthers went ahead in the second as Ian Martin converted a nice pass on a rush from Lucas Rowe. The Tigers tied it up later in the third on a power play goal to send it to overtime. Ethan Lindsay was the OT hero for Pickering tapping it into an empty net on a nifty behind the back pass from Cael Cavallin. Even though the Tigers had numerous chances in the Pickering end, Pickering actually outshot them 41-35 and Zach Roy closed the door to record the OT win.

SUNDAY FEB 20 - PICKERING 6 MARKHAM 2 - The Panthers led from start to finish in this one ... 2-1 after the first, 4-2 after the second and a 6-2 final with goals from six different scorers - Partridge (20), Lindsay, LaPalm, Martin, Rowe (21) and Jessli. Pickering outshot the Royals 46 to 30 and Andrew Ballantyne played a strong game in net, getting his 8th win of the season.

SATURDAY FEB 19 - PICKERING 3 AURORA 1 - A strong power play was all the Panthers needed in this one as they pulled it together to win the return match against the Tigers. Ian Martin and Brendan Tomilson connected to put Pickering up 2-0 until Aurora got one back n the second. A strong checking game kept the Tigers quiet in the third and Jake Partiridge sealed the win with an empty net goal with five seconds remaining in the game. Zachary Roy was solid in net to record his 12th win of the season.

FRIDAY FEB 18 -  AURORA 7 PICKERING 2 - In the first of back to back games, Aurora came away with a 7-2 victory over the Panthers. This was Pickering's worst loss of the season and not a fun game for Panther fans to watch. The team looked completed out of sync, especially compared to their last win over the Burlington Cougars. They were out-hustled, passing was off, giveaways in their own end led to goals and they were less physical than the Tigers. Tomilson and Rowe got the Panther goals. Let's see if they can bounce back in Aurora.

FRIDAY FEB 11 -  PICKERING 5 BURLINGTON 2 - After In a battle of Division leaders, the Panthers took advantage of their opportunities in the first period, with Lucas LaPalm and Ian Martin (power play) putting the Cats up by two before the intermission. Pickering added three more unanswered goals in the second to take command of the game on two goals by Lucas Rowe and the other by Myles Perry. Rowe's second goal was a pretty 3 on 1 passing play with assists by Rodis and Hutton.

Pickering took their foot off the gas in the middle of the third allowing the Cougars to pop in two goals, but that was it as the Panthers registered the win and became the first team in the league to reach 53 points. Zachary Roy shut the door on Burlington making 26 saves.

TUESDAY FEB 6 -  BRANTFORD 4 PICKERING 3  2OT - Brampton jumped on Pickering early in this one, scoring in the second minute of the game and adding another eight minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. The Cats slowly clawed their way back when Brett Henderson scored on a solo rush late in the period and Lucas Rowe  a added a power play goal in the second to tie it up.

The Panthers figured that they had the win when Dustin Hutton tapped in Jake Partridges rebound with six minutes remaining, but the 99ers tied it again just over a minute later to send it into OT.  No scoring in the first OT and lots of excitement in the second, with all kinds of scoring chances, breakaways for both teams and great goaltending at both ends. Brantford got the winner with 45 seconds remaining on a two on nothing opportunity in front of the Pickering net. Andrew Ballantyne was solid in the Panther net making 34 saves including a couple on breakaways.

SUNDAY FEB 6 -  PICKERING 3 MILTON 1 - Pickering rolled into Milton Sunday evening to try to solve the Menace - Milton had won both of the two previous games, the last one in OT.  After a scoreless first period, Jake Partridge and Lucas Rowe put the Panthers ahead in the second and Christos Rodis scored in the third to make it 3-0. Zachary Roy was outstanding in net, but his shutout bid was spoiled when Milton got a power play goal late in the game. Rowe and Partridge now lead the Panthers with 40 points each. The win moved Pickering to 50 points and an 11 point lead in the North Division.

FRIDAY FEB 4 -  PICKERING 4 COLLINGWOOD 2 - After a month long shutdown, the boys got things rolling again against the Blues with a 4-2 victory. Collingwood had much of the play in the first, even though Ian Martin connected on a nice feed from Jake Partridge to open the scoring. Collingwood scored the equalizer on a power play to tie it up before the period ended.  Lucas Rowe got the second period going with a nice shot to the top corner and Lucas LaPalm converted an Ethan Lindsay pass to give Pickering a 3-1 lead. The Blues got one back before the second period ended.

Dustin Hutton cemented the win mid way through the third on a great solo effort, breaking over the blue line, deking between both defencemen and tucking it in behind the Collingwood goalie. Zach Roy recorded his 9th win of the season making 34 saves.

SATURDAY JAN 1 -  PICKERING 5 STOUFFVILLE 0 - This was exactly how the Panthers wanted to start off the new year! After a tight first period with no scoring, Jake Partridge got things started four minutes into the second period. Power play goals by Myles Perry and Dustin Hutton later in the period gave Pickering a 3-0 lead going into the intermission. Ian Martin got another power play goal at 14:37 of the third and Christos Rodis, making his return to the Panthers, scored about a minute later to seal the 5-0 victory. Pickering outshot the Spirit 43-19. Zach Roy registered his third shutout of the season in the Panther net.

2022

SUNDAY DEC 19 -  STOUFFVILLE 3 PICKERING 2 - Not the way the Panthers wanted to end 2021 ... Stouffville came to play and Pickering was slow to get rolling, which led to the Spirit scoring the only two goals of the first period, one on a power play. The Panthers regrouped during the intermission and Myles Perry and Ben Pickell evened the score. Play was pretty even in the third until the Panthers gave up a three on one break and the Spirit converted a nice tick tack toe passing play for the winning goal. Zach Roy stopped 35 shots and took the loss.

FRIDAY DEC 17 -  PICKERING 7 MARKHAM 3 - Elijah Pilosof got things rolling mid way through the first, scoring his 10th goal in his 9th game. Lucas Rowe converted a nice breakaway pass from Quinn Binnie to make it 2-0 and Brendan Tomilson then added his 8th of the season. Markham scored before the period ended on a long shot that eluded Andrew Ballantyne. Jake Partridge seems to be settling in with his new team as he added two goals within two minute in the second - the first on a blistering shot to the top corner ... that's 4 goals in 2 games for Jake. Lucas Rowe and Lucas LaPalm added two more to make it 7-1 before the Royals found the net twice in the final minute of play. Ballantyne had no chance on either goal and made 43 saves for his 7th win of the season.

Jake Partridge had a 4 point night and with his goal and three assists, Brendan Tomilson now leads all OJHL defensemen with 8 goals and 23 assists.  .

THURSDAY DEC 16 -  PICKERING 7 BRANTFORD 1 - the boys headed west tonight with a somewhat depleted lineup and this game was just what the doctor ordered to shake off the last three losses. Several Panthers had big offensive outputs - Eli Pilosof with 3 goals and two assists; Ian Martin with a goal and 4 assists, and Jake Partridge with 2 goals and one assist against his old team. Brendan Tomilson scored the other to make it a 7-1 win. Pilosof now has 9 goals and 10 assists in his 8 games since returning to the Panthers. Zach Roy made 24 saves to register his 7th win.

SUNDAY DEC 12 - COLLINGWOOD 5 PICKERING 4 (OT) - the Panthers found themselves down 3-0 early in the second to the Blues, but power play goals by Brendan Tomilson and Ian Martin shortly after got them back into the game. Collingwood restored a two goal lead later in the period when they jumped on a loose puck after the initial save by Zach Roy. The Panthers failed to connect on a five on three power play early in the third, but their determination finally paid off as Ethan Lindsay converted a nice pass from Tomilson to make it 4-3. With the goalie pulled and with the extra attacker, Dustin Hutton banged one in at 18:37 of the third to send the game into OT.

As usual, OT proved very exciting with chances at both ends. A Pickering penalty proved to be the difference as the Blues got the winner at 4:23 of OT. The Panthers did well to earn a point with the comeback and somehow, the loss seemed like a win.

FRIDAY DEC 10 - AURORA 5 PICKERING 1 - the Aurora Tigers came ready to play tonight, looking to make up ground on the Panthers. Although the 1-1 score at the end of the first flattered Pickering after Ian Martin tied the score, the Panthers looked out of sync, evidenced by Aurora's control of the play and the number of times that the Panthers were offside and iced the puck. The Tigers scored two unanswered goals in both the second and the third periods, including one short handed and one on the power play. Andrew Ballantyne took over for Zach Roy at that point of the game but the damage was done.

Aurora pulled to within 8 points of front running Pickering and has two games in hand.

Another three games in three nights weekend ..

FRIDAY DEC 3 - MILTON 2 PICKERING 1 (OT) - this time, the third game in a row caught up to the Panthers as they headed west to play a rested Milton Menace team. Pickering didn't have their usual jump and passes weren't crisp. The Menace scored on a first period power play and Pickering held their own until Pilosof scored a short handed goal on a rebound in the third after great work at the net by Jake Partridge. Milton scored the winner in OT on a shot from the left faceoff circle that hit Zach Roy on the right shoulder, then bounced up over his back and bounced over the goal line. The Panthers were badly outshot 46-23 but did well to at least earn one point.

SATURDAY DEC 4 - PICKERING 3 OAKVILE 1 - Eli Pilosof got the Cats rolling at 1:20 of the first period (his 4th goal in the last 3 games) converting a nice pass from Jake Partridge. The Panthers controlled much of the play in that period and it paid off as Matthew Altomare gave Pickering a two goal lead late in the period. The Blades finally got on the score sheet early in the third to pull within one but the Panthers held on until Ethan Lindsay got the empty netter on a smart pass by Ben Pickell. Zach Roy made 25 saves to give Pickering their tenth win in the last eleven games.

FRIDAY DEC 3 - PICKERING 9 MARKHAM 2 - the Panthers were feeling it tonight as they produced five unanswered goals in the third period to walk away with the 9-2 win. Pilosof had two, including an empty-netter, with Lindsay, Perry, Van Volson (AP), Martin, Hutton, Papaspyropoulos and Tomilson also contributing. For Alex Papaspyropoulos, it was his first OJHL goal. Andrew Ballantyne recorded his sixth win making 34 saves.

SATURDAY NOV 27 - PICKERING 4 STOUFFVILLE 3 (2OT) - This was one of those "last goal wins" contests in which the Panthers took the lead and the Spirit then responded to tie it up. Ian Martin had two goals and Brendan Tomilson had one as the game entered OT. Nothing was settled in the first OT period and at the start of the 2nd OT, Eli Pilosof broke over the blue line, cut around the defenseman and scored a "Bobby Orr" goal, stretching out to pass the goalie and slipping it into the far corner for the game winner.

FRIDAY NOV 26 - PICKERING 2 MARKHAM 0 - once again the Panthers scored in the opening minute as Myles Perry jumped on a rebound to give the Cats the lead. Lucas Rowe finally scored that highlight reel lacrosse goal in the second period after a couple of unsuccessful tries in previous games. That was it for scoring, but not for excitement, as a brawl erupted in the middle of the third, resulting in multiple suspensions to both teams, including both coaches. Zach Roy made 30 saves for his sixth win and second shutout.

A busy three game in three night North Division weekend for the Panthers ...

SUNDAY NOV 21 - AURORA 2 PICKERING 1 - The Tigers were full value for their win tonight as both teams played an energetic game, considering it was the third in a row for both teams. Kieran Flynn (AP) gave Pickering a 1-0 lead late in the second but the Tigers pounced on two rebounds within two minutes in the second and that's all it took. The Panthers had their chances, including a crossbar and an unsuccessful penalty shot late in the third. Both goalies were outstanding, with Zach Roy taking his first loss as a Panther, stopping 37 shots.

SATURDAY NOV 20 - PICKERING 2 STOUFFVILLE 2 - The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and held on as the Spirit got two back in the second. Tomilson, Rowe and Adams-Matthews (his first as a Panther) got the Pickering goals and Andrew Ballantyne stopped 25 shots to give Pickering its 6th win in a row. Pickering had the only penalty of the game.

FRIDAY NOV 19 - PICKERING 4 MARKHAM 3 - Dustin Hutton got things rolling very early for the Cats as he pounced on a rebound just 27 seconds from the opening faceoff. Markham responded and the Panthers regained the lead on a goal by Aron Jessli. The Royals tied it up again in the second but Ian Martin made it 3-2 with a power play goal. Markham once more tied it up in the third but Hutton got his second of the night one minute later for the game winner. Zach Roy made 39 saves to get the win.

SUNDAY NOV 14 - PICKERING 4 BRANTFORD 1 - not one of their best efforts, but the Panthers still managed to come out on top over the Brantford 99ers. Dustin Hutton scored twice (that's five goals in his last five games) and Myles Perry added another on a breakaway. The Panthers are taking way too many undisciplined penalties and that will eventually catch up to them if they don't stop - they are averaging over 16 penalty minutes per game with the league average at 11. Luckily, their PK is playing very well and ranks 3rd in the league. That strength was highlighted when Lucas LaPalm scored the fourth Pickering goal short handed in the third. Zach Roy was steady in the net making 23 saves.

FRIDAY NOV 12 - PICKERING 3 COLLINGWOOD 0 - Zach Roy put on a goaltending clinic making 37 saves in his first game as a Panther and Aron Jessli scored twice to lead Pickering in an important divisional matchup with the Blues. Neither team scored in the first period even though the Panthers had a full two minute, 5 on 3 advantage in that period.  Collingwood turned on the heat in the third, aided by four Panther penalties, but the Pickering PK lead by Ethan Lindsay and numerous highlight reel saves by Roy were able to turn away the Blues. Dustin Hutton got an empty net insurance goal with a minute to go to cement the Panther victory.

TUESDAY NOV 9 - PICKERING 6 STOUFFVILLE 2 - Andrew Ballantyne was steady in the net as the Panthers scored three times in the first period - Brett Henderson (short handed), Dustin Hutton (power play and Ethan Lindsay. Quinn Binnie got his first OJHL goal and the only goal of the second period on a nice pass out from behind the net by Aron Jessli.

The Panthers were in control of the game until a double minor spearing penalty at the end of the second. The Spirit took advantage of the power play scoring two goals to make it 4-2. Brendan Tomilson got one back soon after and Lucas Rowe scored his 10th of the season late in the game to make it a 6-2 final. Andrew Ballantyne made 34 saves to record his fourth win of the season.

SATURDAY NOV 6 - PICKERING 4 GEORGETOWN 3 (OT)  - the Panthers continued their OT winning streak, downing the Raiders in a back and forth contest where penalties factored into the first four goals. The Raiders scored short handed in the first quickly followed by an Ian Martin power play goal to make it 1-1. Myles Perry stepped out of the penalty box early in the second and scored on a breakaway with a nice deke to give the Panthers the lead, however, Georgetown tied it up later in the second with a power play goal. The teams traded goals in the third (Lucas Rowe with his 9th of the season) and Ben Pickell was the OT hero, scoring on a nice shot from the slot after a puck steal and pass by Myles Perry. Perry has certainly come alive of late, scoring 5 goals in his last 5 games.

Justin Easter recorded his seventh win in net, making 43 saves.

FRIDAY NOV 5 - BURLINGTON 5 PICKERING 3  - a few defensive miscues put the Panthers behind 3-1 in the first period and they were never able to catch up after that. Myles Perry scored two power play goals in the game, one in the first and the other in the third and Dustin Hutton got his first as a Panther in the second. Pickering was 2 for 3 on the PP and their PK was successful all four times. Burlington outshot Pickering 46-34 and Justin Easter took the loss in net.

TUESDAY NOV 2 - PICKERING 2 OAKVILLE 1 - this was an afternoon matinee of two pretty evenly matched teams and the game certainly reflected that. Unlike the last game between these two teams that saw 15 goals scored, this one only had one goal in each period. Pickering jumped in front four minutes into the game on a goal by Lucas Rowe - his 8th in the past 9 games. Oakville tied it up in the second and after two periods, the feeling was that that next goal would be huge. Ethan Lindsay got the Panther's second goal in the first minute of the third on a deflection from the point and that proved to be the game winner. Justin Easter was outstanding in the Pickering and made a highlight reel save in the third on a partial breakaway, doing the splits and flashing the glove to save the game.

The Panthers are now on a role, winning their past four games.

SUNDAY OCT 31 - PICKERING 4 MARKHAM 1 - the Panthers had lots of jump today, controlling the play in the Royals end of the ice for extended periods. Dustin Hutton made his Panther debut, adding a spark to the lineup and assisting on the only goal of the first period by Lucas Rowe. Markham tied it up briefly in the second but Myles Perry put the Panthers ahead to stay shortly after. LaPalm scored early in the third and Brett Henderson scored his first of the season short handed to make it a 4-1 final. Andrew Ballantyne was solid in the Panther's net, making 30 saves and getting his third win.

FRIDAY OCT 29 - PICKERING 3 BRANTFORD 2 (OT) - a very close game that saw both teams trade goals in the second and third periods (Jack Dever and Myles Perry for the Panthers). Just over a minute into the overtime, Aron Jessli and Lucas Rowe broke in alone - Jessli slipped a pass to Rowe and he quickly deposited it into the top of the net for the winner. Justin Easter made 24 saves in the Pickering net, recording his fifth win of the season.

GOVERNOR'S SHOWCASE - the Panthers split their two games, losing the first to Milton, then charging back in the second to defeat the Oakville Blades.

MONDAY OCT 25 - MILTON 6 PICKERING 4 - not the way you want to start a game! The Panthers looked very shaky to start and fell behind by three goals before the four minute mark of the first period. Aron Jessli got one back before the intermission and Brendan Tomilson and Lucas Rowe evened the score early in the second, but the Menace pulled ahead with two more goals before the second period ended. Both teams score in the third (Lucas Littlejohn), but that's as close as the Panthers got.

TUESDAY OCT 26 - PICKERING 9 OAKVILLE  - This was certainly a bizarre game in which the Blades controlled the first period, gaining a 1-0 lead, but the Panthers came alive in the first minute of the second, scoring a power play goal, then adding three more unanswered goals to go up 4-1 (Martin, Altomare, Simpson and Jessli). Oakville came back with with two more to make it 4-3 after two periods. The third period was strange, with Pickering scoring, Oakville trying a comeback, Pickering scoring and Oakville trying a comeback, etc. The Panthers seemed to fluster the Blades with persistent forechecking that caused turnovers and resulted in goals by Pickell (2), Rowe, Cunningham and Altomare.

FRIDAY OCT 12 - COLLINGWOOD 2 PICKERING 0 - the Blues were full value for their victory tonight, outskating the Panthers and making the most of their scoring chances. Noah Pak was excellent in the Blues net and Justin Easter did well to hold Collingwood to only two goals, making 37 saves. The Panthers were 0-6 on the power play, including two 5 on 3 opportunities, the second of which was a full 2 minutes.

SUNDAY DAY OCT 17 - PICKERING 2 STOUFFVILLE 1 - a very close, exciting game in the Den for the Panther's home opener - fast paced, close checking and stellar goaltending at both ends of the rink. Lucas Rowe opened the scoring in the second after a scoreless first period, but the Spirit tied it up a minute before intermission. Lucas LaPalm was the hero, scoring the winning goal 14 minutes into the third. The Panthers weathered the storm in the final few minutes as Stouffville put on the pressure with their goalie pulled.

Andrew Ballantyne recorded his second win in as many starts for the Panthers, looking sharp and making 31 saves.

FRIDAY OCT 15 - PICKERING 5 AURORA 0 - Justin Easter put on an outstanding goaltending display tonight as the Panthers played a structured, cohesive game in shutting out the Aurora Tigers. Lucas Rowe and Ben Pickell got things rolling in the first period and Ian Martin fired a laser into the top corner in the second on a perfect pass from Matthew Altomare. Martin scored his second in the third period (his fifth of the season) and Ethan Lindsay added a short handed goal at 18:26 on pure hustle as the Tigers pulled their goalie in an effort to register at least one goal. Easter recorded his first shutout as a Panther making 46 saves.

MONDAY DAY OCT 11 - PICKERING 4 STOUFFVILLE 1 - in a Thanksgiving Day matinee, Pickering jumped ahead of the Spirit 2-1 in the first period on goals by Quinn Binnie and Lucas Rowe. After a scoreless second period, Ben Pickell and Myles Perry (shorthanded) added Panther goals to give them the much needed victory. Andrew Ballantyne was solid in net, recording his first Panther win.

FRIDAY OCT 9 - GEORGETOWN 5 PICKERING 3 - in the second of back to back games, the Panthers found themselves down 3 goals three minutes into the second period, but they stormed back with three of their own by early in the third on goals from Aron Jessli, Ben Pickell (short-handed) and Matthew Altomare. The Raiders took the lead to stay 9 seconds later and held on, adding an empty netter for the 5-3 victory.

FRIDAY OCT 8 - BURLINGTON 5 PICKERING 3 - the game was trending in the right direction as the Panthers held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first on goals from Ben Pickell and Lucas LaPalm, but the Cougars took advantage of some defensive breakdowns in the Panther end early in the second, scoring two goals within 30 seconds and then adding a power play goal shortly after to jump ahead 4-2. That proved to be the difference in the game as Ian Martin got one back for the Panthers but Burlington added an empty net goal for the 5-3 victory.

FRIDAY OCT 1 & SATURDAY OCT 2 - back to back season opening games against the Collingwood Blues in Collingwood and the Panthers came away with four points ...

PANTHERS 6-5 (OT) - Pickering dominated the opening period, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first period as Alex Cunningham potted the first of the season one minute in and then added his second in the final minute of the first. Ian Martin and Aron Jessli also scored. Collingwood responded in the second with two short-handed goals and Jack Dever made it 5-2 early in the third. The Blues turned it into a nail biter, scoring three more to tie the game to send it to overtime.  Ian Martin made no mistake, scoring his second of the game and the winning goal on a breakaway at 3:15 of OT.

PANTHERS 4-2 - Aron Jessli got the Panthers started with a backhand goal mid-way through the first and Ben Pickell added a short-hander three minutes into the second to give the cats a 2-0 lead, but it was short-lived. The Blues responded 14  seconds later but Alex Cunningham scored his third of the season to restore the two goal lead at the second intermission. The teams traded goals in the third, with Ian Martin scoring on a nice pass from Alex Cunningham to make it a 4-2 final.

Justin Easter was solid in the net in both games for the Panthers, stopping 30 and 38 saves.

PANTHER'S OJHL REGULAR SEASON BEGINS OCTOBER 1st  - After what seemed an eternity, regular season Panther games are  almost here.

Stay tuned for game updates .....

2019-20

OJHL SEASON CANCELLED - What could have been a long playoff run by the Pickering Panthers was brought to an abrupt end on March 13 as a world-wide pandemic shut down the 2019-20 OJHL season. The Panthers had an outstanding season, going 32-18-2 and clinching first place in the North Division for the first time in 21 years. The team got off to a rocky start, making a coaching change two games into the regular season. It took some time for new coach Rob Pearson and his staff to evaluate what they inherited and to start to make changes. The move with the greatest impact was acquiring goalie Brendan Bonello at the end of October. Bonello brought a confidence with him that rippled through the whole team and led to a 13 game streak with only one loss that started mid-November. The team rattled off another 8 game streak with no losses at the beginning of the year and Bonello was named OJHL Goalie of the Month for January.

With a few more solid acquisitions before the trade deadline, the team pushed to capture first place in the Division. They dispatched the Georgetown Raiders in the first round of the playoffs, posting two shutouts and allowing only 3 goals in the series - then the pandemic struck. Although Bonello was a huge factor in the team's success, the Panthers truly came together as a team. This was a team that displayed all of the essentials - speed, scoring, relentless forechecking and backchecking, solid defence and sound goaltending from both of its goalies. The Panthers were comprised of 4 returning players from last year, 11 players that were brought to the team in the off-season (a mix of veterans and rookies) and 6 players with OJHL experience who were acquired by trade during the year.  When they played to their capabilities, the Panthers showed that they could beat any team in the league and they were a team that other teams hated to play. Who knows how far they could have gone in the playoffs?

The way the season ended must be especially disappointing for the eight veterans on the team who unknowingly played their last Jr A game in Georgetown on March 4th. The outstanding contributions of Nathan Gooch, Kevin Stiles, Rocco Andreacchi, Liam Anderson, Noah and Shane Bull, Pattrick Demaio and Brendan Bonello are recognized by all who followed that Panthers this year and they should know that they finished their OJHL careers as winners.

It should also be noted that Brendan Bonello is now the all-time leading goalie in Panther history (minimum 25 games played), recording a regular season GAA of 1.86 and a .946 SV%. The record was previously held by Ethan Langevin in 2017-18.

WEDNESDAY MAR 4 -  PICKERING 5 GEORGETOWN 2 - The Georgetown Raiders were swept by the Panthers tonight - retribution for last year's sudden death cross-over game elimination of the Panthers by the Raiders. Pickering came out strong in the first period, outshooting the Raiders 15-8 and jumping onto a 2-0 lead on goals by Shane Bull (power play) and Brenden Sirizzotti. Play in the second period was a bit  frenzied, thanks to a number of penalties on both sides. Georgetown finally solved goalie Brendan Bonello scoring mid-way through the period -  their first goal since game one. Power plays were again a factor in the third as Christos Rodis scored in the first minute and the Raiders countered with another six minutes later to make it 3-2. Shane Bull put the game away with his second goal of the night at the 17 minute mark and his brother Noah scored into the empty net to seal the Panther victory and their first playoff series win since 2007.

Pickering's power play was 3-5 tonight and 7-17 in the series. The Panthers now await the winner of the Collingwood Stouffville series to play for the North Division crown.

MONDAY MAR 2 -  PICKERING 3 GEORGETOWN 0 - ANOTHER SHUTOUT! - The Panthers stifled the Raiders in a great display of goaltending at both ends of the ice. The score could easily have been doubled but for Nathan Torchia's robbery in the Georgetown net. A number of Panthers came away shaking their heads as Torchia took away what appeared to be open net shots.

Nathan Gooch blasted the first goal home early in the second period. Nick Papadopoulos broke in alone and made a great deke to put it in the net but the goal was disallowed when the far post came off the mooring as Torchia inadvertently (?) pushed against it to try to make the save. It remained a one goal game until Christo Rodis scored a pretty goal early in the third. Kevin Stiles added another on a Panther power play with about seven minutes remaining in the game. As it usually does when two teams play each other that often, things got a bit heated between individual players, but both teams did a pretty good job of staying out of the box

Brendan Bonello was terrific in the Panther net making 30 saves for his second consecutive shutout of this series. Pickering's attention to defence has limited Georgetown to one power play goal in three games as the Panthers take a 3-0 lead in the series.

SATURDAY FEB 29 -  PICKERING 3 GEORGETOWN 0 - another goaltender dual with Pickering coming out on top. No scoring in the game until Patrick Demaio found the mark on a power play shot from the point later in the second period. Eli Pilosof knocked one in from a goalmouth scramble seven minutes into the third to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead and Patrick Demaio iced the game on the power play with a shot from the deep slot on a great pass from Brenden Sirizzotti. Brendan Bonello was stellar in the Panther net, stopping all 46 shots for the shutout. With the win, Pickering takes a 2-0 series lead.

FRIDAY FEB 28 -  PICKERING 2 GEORGETOWN 1 - the Panthers came out on top of this hard-fought, tight checking first game of the North Division semi-finals. As you would expect with these two goalies, goals were at a premium - a power play goal for each team and one even strength goal by Christos Rodis near the end of the second period that proved to be the winner. Rocco Andreacchi got the other for the Panthers on his patented blast from the circle that found the far corner. Brendan Bonello made 34 saves for the win.

PLAYOFFS

SATURDAY FEB 22 -  PICKERING 7 AURORA 1 - final game of the regular season and lots of highlights .... Noah Bull records a hat trick, Christos Rodis scores his 39th to tie him for the league lead in goals, Adam Grein gets a short handed goal, Kevin Stiles gets his 17th and Rocco Andreacchi scores his 27th to finish as the Panther's top scorer with 69 points. Darius Bell got the win in net making 42 saves and was  2:11 away from a shutout. We now await our playoff schedule against the Georgetown Raiders.

FRIDAY FEB 21 -  PICKERING 8 MILTON 1 - what a way to cap off a terrific last regular home game of the season!

  • all the billet and player's families were in attendance to celebrate the evening and the season

  • Christos Rodis gets the hat trick to tie for the league lead in goals scored with 38

  • Shane Bull pots a pair of goals

  • Connor Olson scores twice

  • Rocco Andreachhi has several breakaways, hits at least three posts and notches his 26th goal, and

  • Brendan Bonello, as normal, comes up with 37 saves allowing only one goal for his 19th win in 25 games as a Panther.

One more away game to end the regular season and then we await our playoff opponent.

MONDAY FEB 17 -  STOUFFVILLE 6 PICKERING 4 - third game in four days and it showed (or maybe too much celebrating the night before?) as the Spirit topped the Panthers. Not much offence generated by Pickering as they were outshot 30-16 over the first two periods. That, in addition to numerous undisciplined penalties (9 penalties) in the second period helped Stouffville to a 5-2 lead at the second intermission. Sirizzotti and Andresacchi got the Panther goals. Pickering got two more in the third again from Sirizzotti and Andreacchi to make it a one goal game but the Spirit put it away with a power play goal late in the period. Darius Bell took the loss in the net for Pickering.

SUNDAY FEB 16 -  PICKERING 3 COLLINGWOOD 1 - Well that didn't take long! Only 21 years since Pickering finished on top of their Division, but tonight the boys clinched it with a 3-1 decision over the Colts. No scoring in a tight checking first period but the Panthers finally got rolling later in the second when Patty Demaio's shot from the point found its way through traffic to the net on a Pickering power play. Eli Pilosof broke in on the left wing three minutes later a put it high to the short side for his 15th of the year and then Braydon Leeking deflected Sirizzotti's to make it 3-0 Panthers.

It looked like Brendan Bonello would record his 6th shutout of the year until the Colts scored on a power play with 30 seconds left in the game. The boys look to make it a trifecta long weekend as they take on Stouffville on Monday.

FRIDAY FEB 14 -  PICKERING 3 LINDSAY 0 - a solid defensive game by the boys as both goalies put on a show in Lindsay. The Panthers controlled most of the game, outshooting the Muskies 42-24 and Brendan Bonello came up with some spectacular saves leading to his fifth shoutout in his  23 games since joining Pickering. Nathan Gooch and Nick Papadopoulos put the Panthers up 2-0 in the first period, both with terrific wrist shots to the far corner. Brenden Sirizzotti added his 15th of the season in the second to complete the scoring. The Panthers now get ready for their next two games coming up against Collingwood and Stouffville that will help determine final standings in the North Division.

SATURDAY FEB 8 & SUNDAY FEB 9 - rare back to back games against the Collingwood Colts in Collingwood ...

PANTHERS 5-0 - Pickering played a solid defensive game and didn't leave any doubt as they shut out the Colts, turning aside five Colt power plays, one on a five minute penalty. Once again, Kevin Stiles got things rolling for the Panthers with a first period deflection. Christos Rodis continued his scoring spree, notching his 33rd and 34th of the season in the second period. Andreacchi and Stewart added singles in the third to finish off the Colts. Brendan Bonello recorded his 16th win and 4th shutout of the season in the Panther net. Pickering outshot Collingwood 40-24.

COLLINGWOOD 4-2 - the Panthers had a 2-1 lead at the end of the second, but couldn't hang on.  Too many Panther penatly kills in this game leading to two Colt power play goals and an empty netter In the third. Rodis (35th) and Demaio (10th) got the Panther goals. Rodis is now one goal back of leading the league in goals scored this season.

FRIDAY FEB 7 - PICKERING 7 BRANTFORD 2 - the Panthers came out flying on all cylinders tonight with a solid team effort - amazing what a week of practice and some team bonding will do - a good way to shake off a couple of losses and get back into the winning habit! Not only did Pickering jump to a 6-0 lead before Brampton scored their first in the final minute of the second period, but the Panthers put on a display of beautiful passing in doing so. Kevin Stiles (15th) and Rocco Andreacchi (22nd) scored in the first. Sirizzotti (14th), Shane Bull (4th), Andreacchi  (23rd) and Gooch (10th) added singles in the second.

Nick Papadopoulos added another to open the third and Brantford got a power play goal later in the period to finish the scoring. Brendan Bonello got win number 15, stopping 43 shots. The Panthers now head to Collingwood for a crucial double header and first place showdown.

SUNDAY FEB 2 - MARKHAM 4 PICKERING 3 - Pickering kept pace with the Royals for two periods as Patty Demaio got the first Panther goal to make it 1-1 at the second intermission, but the impact of three games in a row took effect in the third as the Panthers started to run out of gas and Markham scored three times to pull ahead 4-1. The Panthers made an attempt at a comeback, with Noah Bull and Demaio (9th) scoring in the final three minutes, but that's as close as they could get.

Pickering had numerous odd man rushes and scoring chances in the match but couldn't connect, even though they outshot Markham 42-30. The Panthers have now gone 0-17 on the power play over their past three games. Darius Bell took the loss making 26 saves.

SATURDAY FEB 1 - BRANTFORD 3 PICKERING 2 (OT) - not much to describe here, as the Panthers and 99ers were even throughout the match until Brantford popped in the winning goal in OT. Eli Pilosof and Nick Papodopoulos scored for the Panthers.

FRIDAY JAN 31 - COLLINGWOOD 3 PICKERING 1 - the Panthers didn't lose this game - Collingwood won it, playing better all-round hockey. Although Pickering was outshot 18-6 in the first period, they managed to get to the intermission tied at one on a deflection by Braydon Leeking. That was all they managed, as the Colts got a power play goal in the second and another goal in the third for the 3-1 win. The Panthers weren't as sharp as usual and didn't generate many scoring chances, partly due to the sound defence of the Colts. Brendan Bonello took the loss, his first loss in regulation time in the last 11 games.

MONDAY JAN 27 - PICKERING 4 COBOURG 3 - the boys travelled down the 401 today to face the Cobourg Cougars and persevered in a scrambly game with a comeback win after being down twice in the game. Cobourg jumped into the lead but Patty Demaio tied the game in the final minute of the first. The Cougars added two more mid way through a spirited second period (one on a power play) but the Panthers hung in as Shane Bull got his 3rd on a power play and then Michael Urtis added his 7th late in the period on a goalmouth scramble to tie it up at three.

Pickering kept their poise and played their game in the third, outshooting Cobourg 11-6. Patience paid off as Patty Demaio (7th) scored his second of the night and the game winner mid way through the period on a shot from the point that found the corner of the net..

FRIDAY JAN 25 - PICKERING 9 STOUFFVILLE 4 - FIRST PLACE AT LAST!  the Panthers made a statement tonight as they took on the Stouffville Spirit in a battle for first place in the North Division. As has been the trend recently, after Pickering got their legs in the first ten minutes, they pounced on the Spirit, netting five goals before Stouffville scored one just before intermission. Kevin Stiles (power play), Braydon Leeking, Christos Rodis, Connor Olson, and Rodis were the Panther scorers.

Stouffville edged closer with two goals in the second, but Panther coach Rob Pearson settled the boys down with a time out call and Nathan Gooch and Noah Bull responded with goals to put Pickering ahead 7-3. The Spirit completed their scoring with one more before intermission.

Eli Pilosof added two more in the third, his 12th and 13th of the season. A number of Panthers had two point nights, but Rodis (2G 3A) and Pilosof (2G 2A) shone on the same line. Brendan Bonello made 36 saves in the Panther net for his 13th win. With his performance tonight, Rodis is now tied for the OJHL lead in goals scored (32) and Bonello tops all goalies with a 1.90 GAA and a .945 SV%. Pickering's win jumped them into first place with three games still in hand over Stouffville.

WEDNESDAY JAN 22 - PICKERING 6 MARKHAM 3 - a matinee make up game where the Markham Royals drew first blood, controlling play and scoring a shorthanded goal in the first period. The Panthers made adjustments in the intermission and popped in three in a row by Benham (7), Sirizzotti (13) and Leeking (8). Things got heated in the last five minutes of the period as both sides took numerous offsetting penalties. The Royals got one back before Christos Rodis scored his 29th on a power play to make it 4-2 at the end of the second.

Papadopoulos (7) and Rodis (30) scored in the third and Markham added one more to make it a 6-3 final score. Rodis now has 6 goals in his 5 games since coming to Pickering. Bonello made 42 saves in the Panther net to register his 12th win. The Panthers are now a single point behind first place Stouffville with two games in hand. Stouffville plays later this evening before they face the Panthers in a huge matchup on Friday night.

MONDAY JAN 20 - BURLINGTON 4 PICKERING 3 (2OT) - an afternoon cat fight in Burlington where the Cougars bested the Panthers in double OT. The loss ended Pickering's eight game win streak - time to readjust and start another one.  The Panthers were unable to score at even strength, getting two goals from Brednen Sirizzotti (11 & 12) and one from Rocco Andreacchi (20), all on the power play. Pickering didn't seem to have the same jump that they have exhibited in the past few games, but at least they managed to secure a single point from the loss.

As is often the case in OT games, winning goals often result from breaks and odd man rushes. In this one, the Panthers rattled one off the post three minutes into the second OT and the Cougars came back down and after a turnover at the blue line, put one past Brendan Bonello for the win. Bonello made 43 saves and took only his second loss.  Pickering next faces Markham and Stouffville in key North Division matchups.

FRIDAY JAN 17 - PICKERING 6 MARKHAM 3 - once again, the Panthers pounced in the first period to build up a 5-0 lead on the visiting Markham Royals. Brett Benham got things underway at the three minute mark on a Pickering penalty kill. Benham stripped the puck from a Markham defender in the slot and wasted no time scoring his 6th of the season to give the Panthers the lead. Papadopoulos, Andreacchi, Olson and Pilosof got the other Panther goals in the first. Pickering had complete control of the period, out-shooting Markham 19-11.

The teams traded goals in the second as both teams had several penalties. Christos Rodis got his 28th of the year and 4th as a Panther on one of the power plays. The Royals added two more in the third to close within three but that's how it ended. Brendan Bonello got the win in the Pickering net, making 32 saves. The Panthers are now only two points behind first place Stouffville with three games in hand.

SATURDAY JAN 11 - PICKERING 5 AURORA 3 - in a game similar to last night's, Pickering jumped to an early four goal lead and then coasted to a 5-3 victory over the Tigers. Chris Rodis scored twice (his second and third goal in two games with the Panthers). Brett Benham and Mike Urtis (6th) added singles. Urtis now has a goal in each of the last four games. Aurora got two back early in the third period, one on the power play, before Brenden Sirizzotti added his 10th of the season to make it 5-2. The Tigers got one more with a minute remaining in the game. Darius Bell got his 8th win of the season in the net.

In their last 16 games, the Panthers are 13-1-2 and with tonight's win, they move within two points of first place Stouffville with two games in hand.

FRIDAY JAN 10 - PICKERING 7 PATRIOTS 4 - this was a story of two separate games - the first two and a bit periods where the Panthers jumped ahead 6-1 and the remainder of the third where they took their foot off the gas and took a number of penalties to give Toronto some life. Noah Bull, newcomer Chris Rodis (his 25th and first as a Panther), Liam Anderson (his first this season) and Adam Grein gave Pickering a 4-0 lead before the Patriots scored mid-way through the second.

Connor Olson and Mike Urtis pushed the Panthers ahead 6-1 early in the third and Pickering then eased up, allowing the Patriots to score one. Toronto possess the best power play in the league and showed it off, scoring two power play goals to pull within two. Eli Pilosof  made a great shot block late in the game with the Patriot goalie pulled and was rewarded with an empty net goal to seal the victory. Pickering was outshot 50-30 as Brendan Bonello played another strong game in the Panther net, recording his 10th win of the season.

SUNDAY JAN 5 - PICKERING 7 TRENTON 1 - WHAT A WEEKEND! Who would have guessed that the Panthers, playing their third game in as many days against another team also playing their third game this weekend, would dominate with a 7-1 victory? Pickering travelled down the 401 to take on the Golden Hawks, one of the best teams in the league. The Panthers scored two in the first, two in the second and three in the third and relied on solid goaltending from Darius Bell to make 39 saves and hold the Golden Hawks to one shorthanded goal in the second. Nathan Gooch got his 7th and 8th, while Michael Urtis, Nick Papadopoulos, Patrick Demaio, Shane Bull and Eli Pilosof added singles. Pilosof has been particularly hot lately, accumulating 10 points in the last 5 games (3G & 7A).

With this win, Pickering moved into second place in the North Division, just four points behind Stouffville with two games in hand.

SATURDAY JAN 4 - PICKERING 6 AURORA 1 - the Panthers scored two in the first (Papadopoulos and Pilosof) before Aurora finally solved Brendan Bonello in the Pickering net with a goal in the second to break his shutout streak. Pickering pulled away in the third with four unanswered goals by Andreacchi, Urtis Pilosof (second of the game) and Roberts to take the 6-1 victory.

FRIDAY JAN 3 - PICKERING 2 AURORA 0 - in Part 1 of a two day, back to back tilt with the Tigers, the Panthers held on to a one goal lead until the final minute of the game when Rocco Andreacchi deposited Brednen Sirizzotti's pass into the empty net for the two goal victory. Kevin Stiles got the game winner (13) near the middle of the second period and Brendan Bonello was stellar in the Panther net, blanking the Tigers to record his 8th win and his second shut out in a row.  The same teams go at it Saturday afternoon in a short turnaround makeup game.

SATURDAY DEC 28 - PICKERING DEFEATS COLLINGWOOD 2-0 - SHUTOUT!! this was a fast, hard-checking game ... another important North Division matchup for the Panthers and they came away with an impressive win, their second in two days. Ethan Lindsay got his timely first goal of the season for the Panthers as it proved to be the game winner. Kevin Stiles (12th) added an insurance goal mid-way through the second and Pickering held off the Colts for the remainder of the game. Brendan Bonello was excellent again in the Panther net, stopping all 34 shots to record the shutout and get his 7th win.

With the win, the Panthers moved back into third place and are now only four points behind Collingwood with four games in hand and five points behind Stouffville with two games in hand. Pickering is 9-1-1 in their last eleven games.

FRIDAY DEC 27 - PICKERING 5 STOUFFVILLE 2 - the Panthers came out strong today, controlling the first five minutes of play in the Spirit end, but not scoring until Kevin Stiles scored on a pretty pass from Eli Pilosof at the 17 minute mark. They took over in the second with three unanswered goals by Nick Papadopoulos, Brenden Sirrizotti (power play) and Shane Bull to take a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

Stouffville got one back early in the third but Brayden Leeking countered on a beautiful pass from Rocco Andreacchi to make it 5-1. The Spirit then got their final goal on a power play. Pickering managed to kill off a seven minute Stouffville power play shortly after  to take the 5-2 win and to secure an important two points against the division-leading Spirit. Pickering out shot Stouffville 37-28 and Brendan Bonello was again strong in the Panther net, getting his sixth win of the season.

FRIDAY DEC 20 - PICKERING DROPS A 2-0 DECISION TO BRAMPTON - not for a lack of effort tonight, but the boys had difficulty finding the net, dropping a 2-0 decision to the Brampton Admirals. Brampton got their first at the 1:23 mark of the first, and it remained there until the Admirals put a dagger in the Panthers, scoring their second with 24 seconds remaining in the period. Pickering has had difficulty this year preventing goals in the final minutes of a period.

The Panthers came out blazing in the third, outshooting Brampton 17-5, but the Admiral goalie was hot and Pickering was not. A goal by Ethan Lindsay midway through the period was waved off for a player in the crease and that was as close as the Panthers got. Two minor Panther penalties in the last five minutes of the game killed any chance that they might have at tying the game. The loss ended Pickering's eight game point streak. Time to start another streak.

SUNDAY DEC 15 - PICKERING BURYS WHITBY 7-0 - the hot December streak continued as the visiting Panthers rolled over the Fury 7-0. Pickering took a 4-0 first period lead on goals from Ty Roberts, Adam Grein (his 5th this month), Kevin Stiles (power play) and Nicholas Papadopoulos. Curtis Shukster added one more in the second and Braydon Leeking connected on a power play goal mid way through the third to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead. Things got heated in the third as the Fury seemed to target Brendan Bonello in the Panther net leading to a number of fights. Noah Bull got the final goal, his first as a Panther, late in the third to make it a 7-0 final. Brendan Bonello got the shutout and his 5th win of the season, stopping 28 shots.

FRIDAY DEC 13 - PICKERING 3 ST MICHAELS 2 - Friday the 13th meant nothing to the Panthers tonight as they continued to accumulate points, downing the Buzzers 3-2. Braydon Leeking fed a great pass to Adam Grein early in the first period and he buried it to give Pickering an early lead that they held until the Buzzers tied it up in the final minute of the second period. Brett Benham put Pickering ahead 2-1 in the first minute of the third but St Mikes again tied it twenty seconds later. The Panthers wouldn't be denied tonight - Shane Bull, playing in his first game as a Panther with his brother Noah, fed a veteran pass from behind the net to Rocco Andreacchi in the slot who scored the winner and his 16th of the season.

The Buzzers came on strong in the remainder of the period but the Panthers held them off as Darius Bell got his 6th win of the season in the Pickering net. With the win, the Panthers jumped into third place, one point ahead of Markham.

SUNDAY DEC 8 - PICKERING 2 COLLINGWOOD 1 - THE BOYS ARE MOVIN' ON UP!  The Panthers continued their winning ways as the division-leading Collingwood Colts made their first visit to the Den this season. Pickering hit the board early in the first as Brenden Sirizzotti converted a nice power play pass from Rocco Andreacchi and they held that lead until Andreacchi did the same early in the third period on a nice pass from Adam Grein. The Colts got one back shortly after on a strange goal that fluttered high toward the Panther net and eluded Bredan Bonello to make it a one goal game. Pickering was able to hang on to preserve the win and to gain their 10th point in the past 6 games, puling them to within one point of third place Markham in the North Division standings.

THURSDAY DEC 5 - PICKERING 1 STOUFFVILLE 1 (2OT) - the Panthers were looking to close the gap on division-leading Stouffville tonight, but ended up with a well-deserved single point. The Spirit got on the board first but Pickering tied it up on a five on three deflection by Braydon Leeking on a Rocco Andreacchi shot from the point. That was all the scoring there was as both teams traded chances for the remainder of the game and two overtime periods. This was a fast paced, hard checking game that featured great saves at each end - neither team deserved to lose this one. Brendan Bonello was in the net again for Pickering, making 25 saves. The Panthers were 1-5 on the power play and killed off two of their own penalties.

WEDNESDAY DEC 4 - PICKERING 3 GEORGETOWN 2 - special teams were the story in this matinee game as four of the five goals were scored on power plays. The Panthers registered their third win in a row, a 3-2 defeat of the Raiders as Rocco Andreacchi, Brenden Sirizzotti, and Braydon Leeking scored for Pickering. After the Panthers built a 3-1 lead in the third, Georgetown closed to within one in the final minute of play with a 5 on 3 power play goal. That was as close as they got as Brendan Bonello stopped 46 shots to record his third win.

FRIDAY NOV 29 - PICKERING 6 MARKHAM 3 - the Panthers took it to the Royals tonight on the strength of four unanswered first period goals and a hot goaltender. This was the first of back to back weekend games between these division rivals, with the Royals eight points ahead of the Panthers and Pickering having two games in hand. Pickering wasted no time getting going as Matthew Altomare broke in from the blue line two minutes into the game to bury it into the top corner of the Royals net. Eli Pilosof scored from beside the crease on a nice pass from Stiles, Michael Urtis banged in a rebound for his second of the year and Brenden Sirizzotti converted a pretty pass from Rocco Andreacchi to make it 4-0 at the first intermission.

Markham got one back on a power play goal in the first minute of the second and then the teams traded goals as Stiles and Ty Roberts scored for the Panthers to finish off all the scoring in the game. Newcomer Brendan Bonello continued to shine in the Panther net, frustrating the Royals with a couple of highlight reel stops, including a penalty shot in the third period. Frustration was evident in the third period as both teams headed to the penalty box, Pickering was 0-6 on their power plays while the royals were 1-5.

WEDNESDAY NOV 27 - PICKERING DEFEATS MILTON 2-1 - the Panthers came away with the two points in this game in hand on the other North Division teams, but should have had an easier go of it as they dominated the Menace for two of three periods. Eli Pilosof opened the scoring on a nice pass from Kevin Stiles in the first and Patrick Demaio added another before the period ended as the Panthers outshot Milton 19-8.

Milton made it close scoring a power play goal early in the third, but couldn't get the equalizer as newcomer Brendan Bonello made some excellent saves to earn his first win as a Panther.

FRIDAY NOV 22 - PICKERING 1 NORTH YORK 1 (2 OT) - in their second of back to back games, the Panthers took on the North York Rangers and played to a 1-1 draw through two overtime periods. This one started out like a bad movie that you have seen before, when the Rangers scored a short-handed goal on the very first Panther power play. The same thing happened the night before when Pickering coughed up two short-handed goals. Pickering got it back when AP Thomas Stewart got his first OJHL goal on his shot from the point. Both teams then settled into  a back and forth contest as the Panthers went 0-5 on the power play and the Rangers were 0-7. Three shots rattled off the goal posts.

The game got very exciting in the OT periods - Pickering had a number of great opportunities to win the game as they controlled the play for long stretches but couldn't convert. Both goalies were excellent as Darius Bell secured the point for the Panthers in net.

THURSDAY NOV 21 - PANTHERS FALL TO DUKES 6-2 -  the Panthers got behind the eight ball early in this game as the league-leading Wellington Dukes scored a shorthanded goal during the first penalty of the game in the third minute of play. They added two more mid-way through the first and it was all uphill battle for Pickering from that point on. The Panthers played much better in the second controlling much of the play as Matthew Altomare converted a nice Brenden Sirizzotti pass to give the Panthers a bit of life at 7:29, making it a 3-1 game.

Despite an array of Duke penalties in the third, the Panthers only managed one power play goal, despite having a five minute man advantage early in the period. Shortly after that, Wellington scored twice, including another shorthanded goal. Nathan Gooch scored his sixth of the year on a Panther power play but it was all over as the Dukes added one more for the 6-2 victory. Tanner Sheppard took the loss stopping 26 shots.

FRIDAY NOV 15 - PICKERING 7 AURORA 3 - Patrick Demaio got things rolling early for the Panthers, scoring in the second minute of the opening period. The Tigers gone one back a couple of minutes later but Brett Benham gave Pickering a 2-1 lead before the first intermission. The Panthers scored three unanswered goals in the second as Andreacchi (power play, his team-leading thirteenth), Stiles and Forhan found the net before Aurora got their second before intermission.

Kevin Stiles scored his eighth of the season and Braydon Leeking added another in the third as the Panthers skated away with a 7-3 victory, their third win this season over their division-rival Tigers. Pickering outshot Aurora 42-25 and Darius Bell got his fifth win in the Panther net.

WEDNESDAY NOV 13 - PICKERING DEFEATS GEORGETOWN 4-2 - the Panthers must have been energized by the student throng from Valley Farm Public School today as they took it to the Georgetown Raiders, coming out on the good side of a 4-2 score. Pickering twice had two goal leads, going up by two in the first period on goals from Brett Benham and then by Nathan Gooch who converted a nice two on one pass from Kevin Stiles.

The Raiders got one back with three seconds remaining in the first and then tied it up five minutes into the second. Pickering restored the two goal lead later in the second when Brenden Sirizzotti was pulled down on a breakaway and scored on a dazzling move on his penalty shot then and Eli Pilosof picked the far corner of the net on a power play shot from the circle. Darius Bell had a strong game in the Panther net and shut out the Raiders in the third, stopping 29 shots in picking up his fourth win of the year.

SUNDAY NOV 10 - BURLINGTON 9 PICKERING 2 - ever have one of those days at home or at work where nothing goes right? That was the case this evening for the Panthers as the visiting Burlington Cougars scored three times in each period to hand Pickering their second sound defeat of the weekend. The Panthers had difficulty finding the net - Rhys Forhan in the first and Ty Roberts in the final minute were the only Panther scorers - while the Cougars threaded the needle on almost all of their opportunities. Pickering was 0-5 on their power play attempts while Burlington was 4-7.

FRIDAY NOV 8 - ORANGEVILLE 7 PICKERING 1 - the long drive to Collingwood must have taken its toll as the Collingwood Colts had their way with the Panthers, scoring five goals in the third to breeze to a 7-1 victory. After a scoreless first, the Colts got their first goal early in the second and then another on a Panther giveaway in their own zone in the final minute of the period to lead 2-0 going into the second intermission. The Colts blew it apart in the third with five consecutive goals, three of them within one minute. Rocco Andreacchi got the lone Panther goal on a power play with three minute remaining in the game. Shots on goal were 30-19 for Collingwood.

WEDNESDAY OCT 30 - BUFFALO 4 PICKERING 2 - the Panthers shuffled off to Buffalo to play the Jr Sabres, but came home on the wrong side of a 4-2 game. Buffalo scored one minute into the game but Curtis Shukster tied it up with a blast from the point to make it 1-1 at the first intermission. The Jr Sabres got two goals in the second and Pickering one on a patented shot from the circle by Rocco Andreacchi. The third period was spirited, with three separate fights and lots of penalty minutes. Buffalo managed one power play goal to make it 4-2. The Panthers were 1-9 on the power play and Buffalo was 1-4.

SUNDAY OCT 27 - PICKERING 3 MARKHAM 2 - the Panthers didn't waste any time in this the second of back to back games against the Markham Royals as Brenden Sirizzotti tipped in on a shot from the point 40 seconds into the game. Markham responded with two of their own, but Patrick Demaio tied it up on a power play blast from the point. It was four goals in the first 10 minutes of the game and then nothing until Demaio got his second of the game on another Panther power play early into the third  to give Pickering a 3-2 lead. This time, the Panthers were able to hang on to the lead, thanks to an excellent penalty kill and solid goaltending from Tanner Sheppard. Markham went 0-5 on their power play and missed several open nets in the third period.

FRIDAY OCT 25 - MARKHAM 5 PICKERING 3 - the Panthers played a solid 55 minute game last night but then coughed the game up in the final 5 minutes as the Royals scored three times in the final 5 minutes to escape with a 5-3 victory. Markham took a lead in the first but the Panthers responded with two of their own by Rocco Andreacchi and Rhys Forhan to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission. After a scoreless second, Adam Grein buried one on a great shot from the circle to put the Panthers up by two. The Royals got a weird one to pull within one - the shot deflected off the glass behind the net, bounced high in the air and hit off of Curtis Bell's back into the net.

Then came the last five minutes of the game. As has happened a few game in the past, Pickering fell into a defensive shell, collapsing around the net, allowing the Royals to control the puck in the Pickering zone and fire away at the Panther net. They scored the tying goal at 16:18, got the winner with a minute and a half remaining in the third and then an insurance goal at 19:57 with the goalie pulled. This was a game that the Panthers will look back on as one they should have won. The two teams go at each other again Sunday afternoon.

WEDNESDAY OCT 23 - PANTHERS 6 TIGERS 4 - the Panthers made it three in a row in a rare afternoon game, as they came back from two goal deficits twice, scoring three power play goals on the way to an important North Division victory. Pickering had problems in their own end with giveaways and missed checks that lead directly to Aurora goals, but they managed to make it up with relentless forechecking and pressure in the Tiger's end. Kevin Stiles scored twice (one on a power play), his fifth and sixth of the season and added an assist. Brenden Sirizzotti also had a pair, one on a power play tip in and the other into an empty net with 31 seconds left in the game. The other goal came from Rhys Forhan (power play) and Curtis Shukster on a blast from the point. Rocco Andreacchi counted four assists in the game. Tanner Sheppard gave up the net to Darius Bell midway through the game.

SATURDAY OCT 19 - PICKERING 3 STOUFFVILLE 2 (OT) - in the second of back to back weekend games, Pickering defeated their North Division rivals the Stouffville Spirit to bank an important two points in the standings. Nathan Gooch scored his fourth of the year in the last minute of the first period to give Pickering a 1-0 lead at the intermission. The Spirit tied it up in the first minute of the second on the power play, but Nicholas Papadopoulos tipped one in front of the goal a couple of minutes later to restore Pickering's lead.

The Panthers buzzed the Stouffville net for long stretches in the rest of second period, but a couple of posts and some highlight reel saves prevented them from adding to their lead. There is something about the last five minutes of the game that seems to spook the Panthers, as Stouffville tied it up at 16:56 to send the game into OT (shades of the Jr Canadiens game). One minute into OT,  Nathan Gooch feathered a perfect pass across the ice to Braydon Leeking who tapped in into the corner of the net for the winning goal .Tanner Sheppard got his third win of the season, making 30 saves.

FRIDAY OCT 18 - PICKERING 4 BUFFALO 2 - the Panthers looked solid tonight as they scored three first period goals, gave up two early in the third and then came back to life to prevail 4-2 over the Jr Sabres. Ty Roberts got things going mid-way through the first as he stole the puck at the boards near centre ice and used his speed to break in alone and score a short handed goal to put the Panthers up 1-0. Kevin Stiles added two more before the period ended, the second on a power play.

It remained 3-0 until early in the third. Buffalo came out of the intermission fired up and scored two to get within one goal as the Panthers seemed listless. Pickering took a timeout that appeared to right the ship, as the Panthers got back to work and got the insurance goal from Rocco Andreacchi on a terrific wrist shot. Tanner Sheppard was again solid in net making 34 saves. The Panther penalty kill was perfect on the night thwarting seven Buffalo power plays.

FRIDAY OCT 11 - TORONTO JR CANADIENS 1 PICKERING 0 - the Fans were treated to a great game tonight as the 6-3 Canadiens took on the 3-6 hometown Panthers, who were looking for their third prevail 4-2 over the Jr Sabres.consecutive victory. This fast-paced game featured great passing, hard hitting and terrific goal tending at both ends. It was a shame someone had to lose this game but the Jr Canadiens didn't get the message. The game was scoreless until Ryan Tverberg split the Panther defense, broke in alone and with a great deke, deposited the puck into the corner of the Pickering net with about four minutes remaining in the third.

Tanner Sheppard was outstanding in the loss, stopping 29 shots, including a number of what looked like sure goals while the Panthers were shorthanded.

FRIDAY OCT 4 - PANTHERS 4 AURORA 2 - the cat fight continued in the Den tonight.  The Tigers scored seven minutes into the second period in a back and forth contest. Pickering had several good chances but couldn't find the net. Something changed in the third as the Panthers applied more pressure that paid off as Michael Urtis tied it up with his first as a Panther and his first in the OJHL. Adam Grein picked the top corner from the slot after a perfect feed from Ethan Lindsay in the corner to put Pickering ahead 2-1 a few minutes later. Then  Kevin Stiles made a heads up play, intercepting an outlet pass attempt and passing it to Rocco Andreacchi in front of the net who calmly scored his 7th of the season to make it 3-1 Pickering

The Tigers closed the gap to 3-2 with just over 5 minutes remaining and made Panther hearts flutter as they blasted shots at the Panther net with the extra attacker in the final minute. Newcomer Brett Benham got his first as a Panther into the empty Tiger net with 2 seconds left to put the game on ice for Pickering. Darius Bell got his second win of the season in the Panther net stopping 31 shots.

SATURDAY SEPT 28 - PANTHERS POUND STOUFFVILLE 7-2 - The first period was pretty even, as both teams scored, with Rocco Andreacchi getting the Pickering marker. The Panthers broke loose in the second, led by recently signed Brenden Sirizzotti, a second round Ottawa 67's draft pick. Sirizzotti fed Eli Pilosof and he tucked in, Sirizzotti buried his own goal on a power play and then got a beautiful assist on Panther's fourth goal by Nathan Gooch to make the score 4-1 at the second intermission.

Pickering ran into a couple of penalties early in that third that gave the Spirit some life as they controlled play in the Panther end and were finally rewarded with a goal. However, the Panthers got back on track as Pilosof got his second of the night on a great passing play by Kevin Stiles, Andreacchi scored on a screened shot past a Spirit defender, and Braydon Leeking put the nail in the coffin to give the Panthers a much needed 7-2 win.  Sirizzotti ended with a goal and four assists, Pilosof had two goals and Andreacchi had two goals and two assists.

TUESDAY SEPT 24 - TRENTON 4 PICKERING 1 - Eli Pilosof got the only Pickering marker in the first, his first of the season, to put the Panthers ahead 1-0 at the first intermission. Pickering was badly outshot for the remainder of the game as the Golden Hawks scored two in the second and the third. Shots on goal were 31-17 in favour of Trenton.

MONDAY SEPT 23 - PICKERING 5 BRAMPTON 3 - The Panthers finally broke out of their scoring slump, scoring 5 goals ... almost as many as in their first five games. Adam Grein got his first Jr. A goal to start things off and Kevin Stiles added one more in the first for a 2-0 lead. Nathan Gooch made it 3-0 before Brampton got their first to make it 3-1 at the end of the second. Both teams scored two in the third, with Connor Olsen getting his first OJHL goal and Rocco Andreacchi adding another on a Panther power play to make it a 5-3 final score.

FRIDAY SEPT 20 - BLADES SHUT OUT THE PANTHERS 5-0 - this game was closer than the score would indicate. Oakville led 1-0 after the first with a power play goal and added another mid-way through the second. The Panthers had numerous scoring opportunites in the later half of the period but were unable to find the net. Things fell apart quickly in the third following a giveaway and a couple of unfortunate bounces and the Blades pounced on their chances to score three more times. Pickering was 0-5 on the power play and has scored only 6 goals in their first 5 games.

SUNDAY SEPT 15 - TRENTON 3 PICKERING 1 - Newcomer Darius Bell was hot in the Panther net in the first period as Pickering was outshot 14-4. Trenton finally found the net in the second, scoring two unanswered goals to lead 2-0 at the second intermission. Rocco Andreacchi got one back for the Panthers on the power play very early in the third, but Trenton responded a couple of minutes later and that was the game ... a 3-1 final.

FRIDAY SEPT 13 - STOUFFVILLE 2 PICKERING 1 - Friday the 13th wasn't kind to the Panthers in this game of special teams. Pickering dropped their third in a row as they found the net only once, even though they outshot the Spirit 32-24. Stouffville opened the scoring with a power play goal mid-way through the first and then added another in the middle of the second for a 2-0 lead. Rocco Andreacchi got the lone Panthers goal early in the third. That gave the team some additional jump as they dominated the remainder of the game, but were unable to score,  even with some excellent chances in the final minute with the extra attacker.

SUNDAY SEPT 8 - MISSISSAGUA DEFEATS PICKERING 5-2 - Not exactly the way you want to open the season at home ... now two games, two loses. The Panthers jumped ahead in the first on a goal by Nathan Gooch and then added another in the second by Rocco Andreacchi for a 2-0 lead. The Chargers kept plugging away and scored three in the second as the Panthers got bogged down in their own end and couldn't bury their opportunities at the other end. Mississauga added a couple more power play goals in the third to ensure the win. Pickering has more work to do to gel as a team before next weekend.

FRIDAY SEPT 6 - PANTHERS FALL 4-2 TO MARKHAM IN SEASON OPENER - Another season underway as the Panthers visited the Royal with only five returning players from last year. Markham opened the scoring early in the first on a breakaway, but Kevin Stiles tied it up late in the period for Pickering. Rookie Matthew McCullough put the Panthers ahead seven minutes into the second and it stayed that way into the second intermission. Markham tied it up early in the third and then jumped ahead 3-2 three minutes later on a Panther giveaway in their won end. The final goal was into an empty net after the Panthers had several chances to tie the game with their goalie pulled. Newcomer Darius Bell was solid in the Pickering net after the first Markham goal.

2018-19

SUNDAY FEB 24 - GEORGETOWN ELIMINATES PICKERING WITH 5-4 OT DECISION - And so it ends ... that sudden death loss that feels like sudden death. The Panthers came so close to moving on to a playoff series with the Markham Royals, but couldn't shake off the Georgetown Raiders last night. Special teams were going to play a key part in this matchup as the Raiders came into the game with the number one power play in the league. However, it was Michael Cimini who notched the first Panther goal on the power play for the only goal of the first period. After Georgetown tied the game, Cimini got another power play goal to make it 2-1 for Pickering and Ethan Doyle got another about a minute and a half later to put Pickering up 3-1. The Panther penalty kill was excellent in holding off the Raiders a couple of times in the period, but Georgetown finally broke through with a power play goal in the final minute of the second to pull within one goal.

The Raiders jumped ahead with two quick goals early in the third for a 4-3 lead, but Nathan Gooch tied it up with an unassisted goal at 8:04 to send the game into overtime. Overtime was quick, with Georgetown jamming one in the side of the net about one minute into the OT period.

The Panthers would like to thank our graduating players - Micheal Cimini, Ben Sellars, Adam Wheaton and Dustyn McFaul (who will be attending Clarkson University next fall) for their contributions to the Panthers and wish them success in all of their future endeavours.

SATURDAY FEB 23 - TORONTO 4 PICKERING 3 (2OT) - The Toronto Patriots hosted Pickering in the final game of the regular season, with the Panthers again resting a number of regulars. Nolan Burke scored his 6th of the season to give Pickering the lead in the first but the Patriots got two of their own before Andrew Polias (his 11th) evened it up before the first intermission. Toronto jumped ahead in the first minute of the second but Ethan Cardwell got a short-handed goal later in the period to make it 3-3.

There was no scoring in the third or in the first OT and the Patriots got the winner early in the second OT for the 4-3 victory. And now on the crossover game where the Panthers face the Georgetown Raiders to determine who continues on into the playoffs .....

FRIDAY FEB 22 - PICKERING 3 STOUFFVILLE 1 - Not a lot of excitement in the final regular season home game as the Panthers rested five of their regulars in anticipation of the pending crossover game. Ethan Doyle got things rolling for Pickering scoring his 14th of the season. Stouffville tied it up later in the period. Ben Sellars notched his 11th of the season and 9th as a Panther to give Pickering a 2-1 lead in the second. It remained a one goal game until Ethan Doyle scored again into the empty Stouffville net in the final stages of the third period.

SUNDAY FEB 17 - NORTH YORK 2 PICKERING 1 - You didn't know what to expect today as the Panthers took on the North York Rangers, rated the number seven team in the country. Pickering was playing their third game in four days, but came out firing on all cylinders as they played the Rangers even until North York got the first goal with only 15 seconds remaining in the second. The Panthers tied it up early in the third when Nathan Gooch scored on the power play, tipping in Matthew Altomare's shot from the point. Shortly after the Panthers rang one off the post, North York got the winner from a scramble at the side of the Panther net.

Blair Coffin was very solid in the Panther net, turning aside 30 North York shots. Pickering has only two more regular season games to gain points to try to avoid a sudden death crossover elimination game.

SATURDAY FEB 16 - AURORA 3 PICKERING 1 - You had a feeling right from the opening goal that things might not go well for the Panthers in this game. Tanner Sheppard tried to deflect an innocent looking shot into the corner, but instead, it bounced off his stick into the corner of the net for a 1-0 Aurora lead. Pickering wasn't sharp in this game - the passing was off, they were stick checking instead of taking the body and they didn't have their usual jump. Sheppard atoned for the first goal by settling down and stopping a penalty shot mid-way through the period.

The Tigers jumped ahead 3-0 later in the second and Daniel Ebrahim got the lone Pickering goal in the middle of the third (short handed and his 4th against the Tigers in the past two games), but that was as close as the Panthers would get. Although Pickering won five of seven games against the Tigers this season, this loss sealed their fate of ending up in fourth place in the North Division and potentially playing a sudden death cross-over game to secure a playoff spot.

THURSDAY FEB 14 - PICKERING 3 BRANTFORD 0 - Pickering won their fifth game in the last six as they traveled to the home of Wayne Gretzky to take on the 99ers. Ben Sellars is proving to be a real sniper on the power play as he moved to the top of the circle in the first period and picked the top corner on a power play to notch his 8th of the season. The Panthers were fortunate to hang on to the slim lead until early in the third, relying on Blair Coffin to stone Brantford on several good scoring chances including a breakaway.

Adam Wheaton finally gave Pickering some breathing room, as he took a pass from behind the net from Ethan Cardwell and snapped it home at 6:34 of the third period. Joseph Franzin scored an insurance goal into the empty net with 1:40 remaining to make it a 3-0 final.

SATURDAY FEB 9 - PICKERING 6 BRAMPTON 3 - The Panthers registered their third win in a row as they traveled to Brampton to take on the Admirals. Nathan Porter got them going early with a seeing-eye shot from the point but they gave up the lead as the Admirals scored two to make it 2-1 at the first intermission. Ethan Cardwell tied it in the second with a beautiful power play goal and Joe Franzin put the cats ahead to stay with only five seconds remaining in the second,

Michael Cimini (power play) and Nolan Burke added two more in the third and Kevin Stiles hit the empty net to make it a 6-3 win for Pickering. Tanner Sheppard got his 15th win of the season making 30 saves in the Panther net.

FRIDAY FEB 8 - PICKERING 4 COBOURG 2 - another battle of the cats today in the den as the Panthers welcomed the Cobourg Cougars, but showed no hospitality as they jumped ahead 2-0 then held on to the lead to defeat the top team in the east division. Kevin Stiles scored both goals in the first period, the first on the power play and the second on a beautiful pass from Ethan Doyle. Tanner Sheppard was excellent in the Pickering net, holding off periodic pushes by the Cougars and maintaining the two goal lead until early in the third when Cobourg made it 2-1.

Adam Wheaton gave the Panthers some breathing room midway through the third, scoring with a nice breakaway move. Cobourg made it close, scoring on the power play with their goalie pulled with 31 seconds left in the game. Nathan Gooch got the clincher for the Panthers with an empty net goal in the dying seconds. The Panthers are now nine points behind Aurora with six games remaining in the regular season.

TUESDAY FEB 5 - PICKERING 7 AURORA 2 - a battle of the cats today as the Panthers travelled to Aurora for a very rare late morning makeup game. Pickering was firing on all cylinders again and the penalty kill needed to be sharp as the Panthers took 30 penalty minutes to the Tiger's 12 minutes. It was a big game for Daniel Ebrahim as he got the hat trick and an assist ,with one of his goals short-handed and another on the power play in the first period. Pickering jumped ahead 3-1 in the first, with the other goal coming from Ethan Doyle. There was no scoring in the second as the Panthers played half the period short-handed and were outshot 12-2.

Ebrahim got his third seven minutes into the third on a pretty pass from Ethan Cardwell, then Ethan Doyle (his 12th), Poulias (shorthanded) and Nolan Burke made it 7-1. Aurora got another with about a minute and a half to go in the game. Tanner Sheppard was excellent in the net making 21 saves. This was the fifth win in six meetings for the Panthers over the Tigers this season.

SATURDAY FEB 2 - MARKHAM 2 PICKERING 1 - the final and 7th meeting of the regular season was a tight game from start to finish. Markham scored a goal in the first and it stayed that way until the first minute of the third when the Royals scored what proved to be the winning goal. Ben Sellars got the Panthers to within one six minutes into the period and despite outshooting the Royals 20-9 in the third, Pickering couldn't get the equalizer. The Panthers were missing their captain, Adam Wheaton, who was serving the first game of a two game suspension.

FRIDAY FEB 1 - PICKERING 4 MARKHAM 0 - this was a solid game for Pickering from start to finish - good defence, great goaltending and an offence that was creative and that took advantage of its scoring chances. Ethan Doyle scored the only goal of the first period to give the Panthers the lead. Andrew Poulias made it 2-0 in the second on a great pass from Ethan Cardwell and Ben Sellars scored his 8th of the year to make it 3-0. The Cardwell Poulias connection came through again early in the third as Poulias scored his second of the night and his third in the past two games. Tanner Sheppard registered his second shutout of the season as the Panthers outshot the Royals 45-35.

SUNDAY JAN 27 - MARKHAM 4 PICKERING 3 - the boys played very, very well today despite missing three regulars, but went down to defeat 4-3 at the hands of the Markham Royals. The story of the game - Markham capitalized on their chances while Pickering didn't. A defensive miscue led to the first Markham goal but the Andrew Poulias tied it up. The Royals pounced on a rebound to add another before the first period ended. Markham got the only goal of the second on a power play and the Panthers missed a couple of breakaway chances.

Ethan Doyle notched his thirteenth early in the third bit Markham got the killer shortly after. Kevin Stiles pulled Pickering to within one with the goalie pulled but it would end 4-3. Shots were about even at 36-34. The same two teams meet again two times next weekend.

FRIDAY JAN 25 - PICKERING 6 AURORA 4 - the Panthers came out flying in the first, ran into penalty problems in the second but weathered the storm and then pulled away in the third for their fourth victory in five games versus the Aurora tigers this year. Special teams played especially well for the Panthers in this game. Ethan Doyle got his twelfth of the year on a power play to get things rolling in the first as the Panthers outshot the Tigers 15-7. Adam Wheaton put the home team up 2-0 mid way through the second but then Pickering fell into penalty problems taking six penalties to Aurora's two. Aurora scored a power play goal late in the period and it was 2-1 at the second intermission.

Aurora tied the game early in the third but Andrew Poulias responded with a power play goal 24 seconds later to regain the lead. That goal gave the Panthers momentum as Noah Burke, Kevin Stiles and Ben Sellars (short handed) gave Pickering a comfortable 6-2 lead. When Pickering took another penalty with about 8 minutes remaining, The Tigers pulled their goalie giving them a two man advantage. The Panthers held on and killed the penalty but Aurora scored twice more before the game ended to make the score a bit more respectable.

FRIDAY JAN 18- OAKVILLE 3 PICKERING 0 - the home team was in tough tonight as they faced the top team in the league and the number three team in the country. The Panthers held their own in the first and even tough they were badly outshot in the second, they held the Blades off the scoreboard until about a minute and a half remaining in the period. The Blades smothered the Panthers, limiting their scoring chances and then went ahead 2-0 early in the third. A frustrated Pickering team took 24 minutes in Penalties to Oakville's 6 and Oakville capitalized on one of those with a power play goal to make it 3-0. The Blades outshot the Panthers 37-16.

SUNDAY JAN 13 - BURLINGTON 4 PICKERING 3 - a tough loss for the Panthers as they clawed back to tie the game in the middle of the third only to lose it with just over a minute remaining in the game. A promising start for Pickering as Ethan Cardwell notched his second goal in two games with the Panthers and then Adam Wheaton scored his 11th with a toe drag and a bullet to the top corner to give Pickering a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. The Cougars responded in the second with two of their own, one on a power play. Burlington took the lead near the eight minute mark of the third and it looked grim for Pickering at that point, but Nathan Gooch tied it up with a power play backhander five minutes later.

The Panthers drew a tripping penalty at 16:51 of the third and seemed to weather the storm until a clearing pass from the corner was deflected to a Burlington player all alone in front of the Panther net for the winning goal. Pickering outshot Burlington 34-30.

FRIDAY JAN 11 - PICKERING 4 NEWMARKET 2 - another close game where the Panthers pulled out a win in the last half of the third period. Newmarket got the game rolling with a power play goal near the middle of the first period but the Panthers responded less than a minute later when Ben Sellars (6th) moved in to bury a rebound. Daniel Ebrahim put Pickering ahead mid way through the second (his 8th) but the Hurricanes took advantage of a giveaway at the blueline less than a minute later to score on a breakaway.

With a tight 2-2 game early in the third, newcomer Ethan Cardwell buried his sixth of the season and his first as a Panther on a beautiful shot from the right circle to give Pickering the lead. Nathan Gooch got the insurance marker (5th) into and empty Newmarket net with one minute to go. Credit Dustyn McFaul for doing some excellent defending and freezing the puck behind the Panther net while Newmarket had a two man advantage and then getting the puck up to Gooch for his goal. Tanner Sheppard got the win making 22 saves. This was Pickering's fifth win in the past seven games.

SUNDAY JAN 6 - PICKERING 4 AURORA 2 - the Panthers were full value for their third win over the Tigers in four meetings this season. They played a tight checking positional game and took advantage of their opportunities when they came. Much like the previous game, this was an exciting tied game until the middle of the third period.

Matthew Altomare and Adam Wheaton notched power play goals for Pickering. It was the first of the year for Altomare and the tenth for Wheaton. Nathan Gooch scored the winner in the third and Joseph Franzin sealed it into an empty Aurora net with nine seconds remaining in the game. Tanner Sheppard had another strong game in the net making 29 saves and getting his 12th win.

FRIDAY JAN 4 - WELLINGTON 3 PICKERING 1 - the score was certainly not an indication of the play as the Dukes and the Panthers were two evenly matched teams for two and a half periods last night. Wellington broke the scoreless tie with a goal midway through the third and followed up with their second four minute later. An empty netter made it 3-0 before Riley Girard got the only Panther goal with fifteen seconds left in the game. Shots on goal were 26-24 for the Panthers. Tanner Sheppard played well but took the loss making 21 saves.

FRIDAY DEC 21 - PICKERING 5 STOUFFVILLE 1 - a good way the finish the year! In an important four point divisional matchup, the Panthers came up big against the Spirit earning their third win in a row, despite missing three regulars. Riley Girard got Pickering started mid-way through the first. Pickering had a huge territorial advantage for most of the period and outshot Stouffville 14-3 but couldn't add to their lead. Then they gave up a short handed goal late in the period to make it 1-1 at the intermission.

The Panthers put on a bit of an offensive show in the second period as they scored four unanswered goals. Jacob Sutton, Kevin Stiles, Nolan Burke (short handed) and Riley Girard (his second of the game) were the goal scorers. Stouffville had 32 penalty minutes to Pickering's  8, but there were no power play goals in the game. APs Joshua Currie, Tyler Deline and Anthony Lamanna filled in well for the Panthers in the last couple of games.Tanner Sheppard got the win turning aside 20 shots ... on to 2019.

THURSDAY DEC 27 - PICKERING 4 LINDSAY 1 - the Panthers earned an important two points this afternoon as they defeated the Lindsay Muskies in the first of two back to back Christmas week matinee games. Ex Panther Noah Vandervinne put the Muskies ahead midway through the second but Ethan Doyle got his 11th on a power play shortly after to tie it up. In the middle of the third, Lindsay rang one off the Pickering crossbar and the Panthers went ahead soon after when Nick Prestia scored. Michael Cimini gave Pickering a two goal lead a little more than a minute later with another power play goal. Joseph Franzin added an empty netter with about a minute remaining for the 4-1 victory. Tanner Sheppard played a strong game in the Panther net making 27 saves.

FRIDAY DEC 21 - PICKERING 1 BRANTFORD 0 - the Panthers shut out the 99ers and gained an important two points in what proved to be a very strange game. The only goal of the game was scored in the first period by Ethan Doyle on a shot from behind the goal line that found its way into the net. Both teams had their chances after that, but a post, a crossbar, a lot of shots wide of the net and good saves at both ends kept it scoreless. Blair Coffin got the shutout and had a terrific game in the Panther net and Pickering played well defensively throughout the game, but particularly in the third period when Brantford had a 5 on 3 power play and then the goalie pulled for an extra attacker. Brantford went 0 for 4 on the PP while Pickering was 0 for 3. On to Stouffville for a key matchup tomorrow.

SUNDAY DEC 16 - MARKHAM 11 PICKERING 1 - Ethan Doyle scored a short-handed goal for the only Panther score. Matthew Altomare exited from behind his own net and fed a perfect heads-up pass to Doyle just over centre ice. Doyle streaked in on the Markham goalie, faked a shot and potted a backhander into the empty net. Pickering has scored only 2 goals in their last 3 games.

FRIDAY DEC 14 - NEWMARKET 4 PICKERING 0 - the Hurricanes scored three in the first and then shut the door as the Panthers dropped a 4-0 decision in their first game back home in the past three weeks. It not that Pickering wasn't playing hard - this team just doesn't spend much time in the zone in front of the net and has difficulty scoring goals. The Panthers are second last in the league in shots on goal and goals scored per game and have no players with double digits goals. Tanner Sheppard took the loss. The Panthers are back in action Sunday night as they host the Markham Royals.

SATURDAY DEC 8 - STOUFFVILLE 4 PICKERING 1 - the Stouffville Spirit put an emphatic stop to the Panther's modest win streak Saturday night. This game was determined by two factors: Damon Beaver, the Spirit's goalie, and; the fact that the Panthers were playing their second back to back game missing five of their regular skaters. Pickering had their chances in the first half of the game but were stoned time and time again by a hot goalie. Then, playing with only three lines caught up to the Panthers as they started to tire and started to take penalties - penalties in large part due to not being able to use their speed and also due to frustration.

After a scoreless first period, Stouffville scored three in the second, two on power plays, while Ben Sellars scored Pickering's goal also on a power play. Stouffville added one more in the third for the win. Tanner Sheppard took the loss making 31 saves.

FRIDAY DEC 7 - PICKERING 6 AURORA 3 - the boys managed their highest scoring output of the season Friday night despite missing a few regulars, as they downed the division-leading Aurora Tigers 6-3. The goals came from forwards Kevin Stiles, Nathan Gooch, Eli Pilosof, Riley Girard and Ethan Doyle and from defensemen Ben Sellars and Michael Cimini. Two of the goals came on power plays as the Panthers scored four goals in the second period to take a 5-3 lead. Tanner Sheppard made 39 saves for the win as Pickering was outshot 42-34. Pilosof and Ethan Doyle both had three point nights for Pickering.

SUNDAY DEC 2 - PICKERING 3 NEWMARKET 2 - the Panthers visited the Hurricanes Sunday afternoon and came away with a close 3-2 OT victory as they edged closer to the Hurricanes and the Royals in the division standings. Pickering got goals from Riley Girard and Ethan Doyle (short-handed) and then the game winner from captain Adam Wheaton in the first OT period to edge Newmarket. Shots on goal were even at 34 as Tanner Sheppard picked up his fifth win of the season in the Panther net.

FRIDAY NOV 30 - OAKVILLE 5 PICKERING 2 - the Panthers were never really in this game as the league-leading Oakville Blades used their speed, puck control and passing to jump ahead 1-0 with a power play goal five minutes into the first and then added another early in the second for a 2-0 lead. Pickering got one back as Michael Cimini scored on a power play shot from the point, but the Blades scored again to lead 3-1 at the second intermission.

Oakville got their fourth goal early in the third and Ben Sellers got his first as a Panther before the Blades finished it off with an empty netter for the 5-2 win. Pickering was outshot 34-24 as Blair Coffin took the loss, making 29 saves.

SUNDAY NOV 25 - PANTHERS LOSE 4-1 TO NORTH YORK - the boys travelled to North York Sunday afternoon to play their third away game in four days, and took it to the Rangers for two periods, before giving up two key goals in the third due to defensive miscues in their own zone. Riley Girard potted the only Panther goal in the first period on a nice pass from Eli Pilosof. Pickering was even up with the Rangers for two periods in a game highlighted by speed, hits and tight checking. Unfortunately, the Rangers tied it up with one second left in the second on a long shot from the left circle that seemed to surprise Blair Coffin as it caught the top corner.

North York got a power play tip in in the third along with their two other goals for the 4-1 victory. Pickering played a disciplined game, taking only four minutes in penalties (although the second proved costly). Coffin took the loss in the Panther net making 25 saves as Pickering was outshot 29-27.

FRIDAY NOV 23 - BURLINGTON 6 PICKERING 2 - the Burlington Cougars jumped ahead in this matchup, but Michael Cimini tied it up on a point shot shortly after. Burlington scored two quick goals early in the second but Ethan Doyle pulled the Panthers to within one but that was as close as thy would come in this game. The Cougars added two more before the end of the second for a 5-2 lead and then added one more in the third for the 6-2 win.

THURSDAY NOV 22 - PICKERING 3 NEWMARKET 2 - The Panthers grabbed an important north division victory in double OT tonight but let a single point slip away as the Hurricanes scored two goals 15 seconds apart in the final minute of the third period to send it into overtime. Pickering played a strong, disciplined game and got goals from Nick Prestia early in the first and Ethan Doyle early in the third to lead Newmarket 2-0. Doyle got the game winner in the second OT period, his second goal since coming to the Panthers two weeks ago. Blair Coffin got the win in the Panther net, stopping 30 shots.

SATURDAY NOV 17 - GEORGETOWN 3 PICKERING 0 - the Georgetown Raiders avenged an OT loss to the Panthers a couple of weeks ago, with a 3-0 victory on the strength of two power play goals and an empty netter. The Panthers were playing their second of two weekend games with five regulars out of their lineup through either injury or suspension: Dustyn McFaul. Andrew Poulias, Davis Teigen-Katsumi, Mitchell Doyle and Nolan Burke. The Panther call-ups played well (as they did on Friday night) as Pickering held their own for the first period. The boys faded as the game wore on and Blair Coffin faced 40 Raider shots while the Panthers mustered only 23. Pickering did have a couple of unsuccessful, clear-cut breakaways that might have changed the complexion of the game if they had succeeded in scoring.

FRIDAY NOV 16 - PICKERING 3 MARKHAM 2 - After the past two blowout losses to the Royals, no one knew what to expect in this one, but the Panthers came back with two goals in the third period to defeat Markham and gain two points in the standings on the second place Royals. Pickering played an energetic, structured game - one of the better games they have played in the past several weeks. Markham led 2-1 on the strength of two power play goals. Joseph Franzin got the first Panther goal.

Newcomer Cameron Snow (AP) tied it up in the third and Kevin Stiles then got the game winner about one minute later. Blair Cofffin robbed Markham with about one minute left with a highlight reel stop on a lone Markham forward to preserve the win. This was a spirited contest on both sides and the referees seemed to favour the Royals on several questionable calls. Pickering took 36 penalty minutes to Markham's 16.

PANTHERS DROP A PAIR OF WEEKEND HOME GAMES -
FRIDAY NOV 9 the one game win streak came to a quick halt when the Panthers lost 6-2 to the Kingston Voyageurs Friday night. The only Pickering goals came on the power play from Jason Stachelbeck (his first as a Panther) and Riley Girard. Kingston led 2-1 after the first, 3-1 after two and pulled away with three unanswered goals  in the third. Although Pickering almost matched Kingston's shot total, most were from the perimeter and were not good scoring opportunities.

SUNDAY NOV 11 - The Panthers hosted division rivals Stouffville Spirit in an important matchup and came away losing 3-0. The Spirit scored one in the first and two more in the second and then hung on to inch two points closer to Pickering in the standings. Pickering is in a noticeable scoring slump lately, scoring 20 goals in the last ten games. They currently sit second last in league scoring, with 48 goals in 22 games played. The Panthers host the Markham Royals next Friday night before they head on the road for 8 away games.

TUESDAY NOV 6 - PANTHERS 3 GEORGETOWN 2 IN  DOUBLE OT -  the Panthers took on the Georgetown Raiders in a rare Tuesday night home game and gutted out a much-needed 3-2 victory in double OT. On paper, these two teams were virtually  identical, except that the Raiders had the number one power play in the league. The game was a close as the statistics indicated. Pickering jumped ahead 2-0 on a late first period goal from Nathan Porter and then a second goal very early in the second period on a beautiful snap shop to the top corner from Adam Wheaton. Georgetown got one back shortly after and Pickering held on to the 2-1 lead going into the third.

Tanner Sheppard again kept Pickering in the game with a number of key saves in the second and third periods as the Panthers were outshot 27-10. The Raider power play came through in the third to provide the tying goal and to send the game into overtime. Pickering then took control in the overtime periods, providing most of the offense and outshooting Georgetown 5-0. Joseph Franzin got the winning goal 52 seconds into the second overtime to give the Panthers the two point victory.

SUNDAY NOV 4 - BUFFALO EDGES PICKERING 4-2 - Somehow, the Panthers were only behind by two goals at the second intermission, despite being outshot 26-8 as Buffalo had a strong territorial advantage, taking advantage of two power play goals to lead 3-1 going into the final period. Kevin Stiles got the first Pickering goal. The Panthers came out strong in the third, and cut the margin to one on a power play on a beautiful pass by Andrew Poulias to Dustyn McFaul for the tap in. Pickering pressured the Jr. Sabres for much of the third period but were unable to get the equalizer. Buffalo got an empty netter in the dying seconds for the 4-2 win. Tanner Sheppard stood tall in the Panther net making a couple of highlight reel stops, as Pickering was outshot 35-15.

FRIDAY NOV 2 - ST MIKES 6 PICKERING 2 - the Panthers started off well in this one, leading 2-1 after two periods, but fell apart in the third as the Buzzers scored five unanswered goals for the 6-2 win. Adam Wheaton and Davis Tiegen-Katsumi got the Panther goals and Blair Coffin took the loss in net, stopping 36 of 42 shots.

SATURDAY OCT 27 - AURORA 4 PICKERING 0 - In their second weekend game, the Panthers dropped a 4-0 decision to Division leading Aurora Tigers. Pickering fell behind 1-0 in the first and Aurora scored three more unanswered goals in the third. Pickering seemed to lack cohesion, perhaps as a result of a number of roster changes in the past couple of weeks. Scoring one goal in the past games doesn't help. Pickering is 21st in the league in points per game. The Panthers meet St Mikes and Buffalo next weekend.

FRIDAY OCT 26 - MARKHAM BURIES PICKERING 8-1 - Wow! For the second time these teams have met this season, the Royals have had the Panthers number, winning big tonight with a decisive 8-1 decision. Nick Prestia opened the scoring for Pickering in the first, but that was the only scoring for the Panthers as Markham added three in the first, one in the second and four more in the third. The Panthers were outshot 52-40 in the game and didn't have as much jump as usual throughout the contest. Newcomer Blair Coffin took over from Tanner Sheppard in the Pickering net for the final 12 minutes of the game.

SATURDAY OCT 20 - PANTHERS DEFEAT SPIRIT 5-2 - The Panthers took a while to get rolling in this one. Daniel Ebrahim notched his 7th of the season on a shorthanded breakaway in the last minute of the first period. Stouffville tied it up later in the second before Mason Dreger got his first Jr A goal shortly after to put Pickering up 2-1 at the end of the second.

Dreger added his second early in the third and Andrew Poulias scored twice, as the Panthers posted a 5-2 win. Andrew Viglaitore got his third win in the Panther net making 23 saves.

FRIDAY OCT 19 - BRAMPTON 3 PICKERING 2 - The Panthers feel behind early and their comeback attempt fell short as the Brampton Admirals took a 2-0 lead in the first and added another in the second to jump ahead 3-0, The Panthers got two early goals in the third from Davis Teigen-Katsumi and Dustyn McFaul to make it exciting, but were unable to get the all important tying goal, despite outshooting the Admirals 14-6 in the third period.

SUNDAY OCT 14 - PANTHERS DOWN TRENTON 4-1 - A solid effort all around tonight. The Golden Hawks got on the board mid-way through the first but Adam Wheaton tied it up later in the period (his 6th) on a great move to beat the defender and then the goalie. The Panthers scored three more in the second on goals by Daniel Ebrahim (his 6th), Nick Prestia (his first as a Panther) and Michael Cimini on a blast from the point. Pickering played solid defensive hockey for the remainder of the game to preserve the 4-1 score. Tanner Sheppard was solid in goal making 37 saves.

FRIDAY OCT 12 - NEWMARKET PREVAILS IN 4-3 DOUBLE OT WIN - Kats is back! Davis Teigen-Katsumi returned to the Panthers tonight and was instrumental in all of the Panther goals, scoring one and assisting on the other two. This game was as close as the score and shots indicated. The Hurricanes scored late in the first but Andrew Poulias responded just over a minute later to end the first period 1-1. Nathan Porter got the second goal and Teigen-Katsumi got his late in the second as Pickering led 3-2 after two.

A Panther penalty late in the third led to Newmarket's tying goal with the extra attacker to send the game into OT. Pickering survived a penaly in the first OT, but the Hurricanes scored on the three on three in the second OT for the 4-3 win.

SATURDAY OCT 6 - PANTHERS EDGE MISSISSAUGA 3-1 - we didn't know what to expect on the third road game in three nights, especially after the Markham game, but the boys gutted out a 3-1 win against the Chargers. The game was tight checking and scoreless until Jacob Sutton got his first as a Panther with 5 seconds remaining in the second. Mississauga tied it up mid-way through the third, but Joseph Franzin put Pickering back in the lead with a power play goal shortly after. Daniel Ebrahim got his fifth of the season, an empty net insurance goal with two minutes to play, to seal the victory.

FRIDAY OCT 5 - MARKHAM HAMMERS PICKERING 9-1 - the Panthers were down 3-0 late in the second before Andrew Poulias scored on a power play on a nice setup from Nathan Gooch. That was it as the floodgates opened and the Royals added six more (two on the power play). Pickering had 33 minutes in penalties to Markham's 18 as frustration set in, The Panthers have scored just five goals in their past five games while allowing 22 goals and have been badly outshot in most of those games, this time 40-28.

THURSDAY OCT 4 -  PANTHERS EDGE HURRICANES 1-0 - in a tight contest, newcomer Kevin Stiles scored his first as a Panther and the only goal of the game late in the second period. Pickering could have added to the score if they had converted any of their four breakaways, two of which came on the penalty kill. Tanner Sheppard recorded the shutout for Pickering stopping all 34 shots he faced.

SUNDAY SEPT 30 - NEWMARKET 5 PICKERING 2 - not much to say about this game ... a number of Panther defensive lapses and not enough offense. The game got off to a rocky start for the Panthers as the Hurricanes scored just 18 seconds into the game. Adam Wheaton scored his fifth of the season late in the first period to tie it at one. Wheaton is becoming a penalty kill threat - that was his third short-handed goal this young season. Newmarket scored another in the second to take a 2-1 lead and then two more quick goals early in the third to make it 4-1. The Hurricanes outshot the Panthers 14-4 in that period.

Newmarket added one more before Nathan Horton got his first of the season in the final minute of play with a nice solo rush. Newcomer Tanner Sheppard took the loss in the Panther net making 29 saves. Pickering was outshot 34-19. The teams go back at it again on Thursday night.

WEDNESDAY SEPT 26 - COBOURG 5 PICKERING 0 - what is happening in Panther land?  The Panthers dropped their third game in a row, 5-0 to the Cobourg Cougars. The Cougars scored two power play goals - one in the first and the other in the second to take a 2-0 lead into the third period. Pickering gave up three more early before the middle of the third. The Panthers were outshot 42-34 and were 0-6 on the power play.

TUESDAY SEPT 25 - KINGSTON 2 PICKERING 1 - the first game for the Panthers in the Governor's Showcase in Buffalo saw Kingston jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, with two quick goals in the final two minutes of the period. The game remained scoreless from that point on until Dustyn McFaul got the only Pickering goal with 28 seconds remaining in the game. Pickering outshot Kingston 32 to 24 and had a decided advantage in the third period, but couldn't find the net. The Panthers were 0 for 4 on the power play.

SUNDAY SEPT 23 - JR CANADIENS HUMBLE PANTHERS 7-4 - this is a game that the Panthers need to put way at the back of their memory banks. Pickering actually had a bit of an advantage in the first ten minutes of play but it fell apart quickly after that. Toronto scored three before the period ended, the third on a power play. Nothing that Panther goalie Andrew Vigliatore could do on any of them - the first a deflection and the other two resulting from nice passing plays. Toronto added another in the second to make it 4-0 before Adam Wheaton got a short-handed goal back for Pickering shortly after.

The Jr. Canadiens put the game on ice with two more later in the second and another on the power play midway through the third for a 7-1 lead. However, the Panthers didn't quit. Nolan Burke, Riley Girard and Adam Wheaton (with his second short-handed goal) made the score a bit more respectable, as it ended 7-4. Newly acquired goalie Tanner Sheppard took over in the Panther net for the third.

FRIDAY SEPT 21 - PANTHERS DEFEAT TIGERS 3-2 - a big divisional game tonight as the Panthers staged a huge come from behind win handing the Aurora Tigers their first loss of the season. The first period was uneventful, as both teams checked closely and couldn't find the net. Michael Cimini got his first as a Panther early in the second on a power play and that seemed to give Pickering a bit of jump. However, the Tigers got the next two and took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

Pickering was under fire for a good part of the third, but Andrew Vigliatore came up big in the net, holding Aurora off the board. Adam Wheaton tied it up at the fourteen minute mark and the Panthers held on until Joseph Franzin got the winner on a nice pass from Jacob DiDanieli with just 30 seconds remaining in the third. Pickering survived the remainder of the period as the Tigers pulled the goalie for the extra attacker. Pickering was 1-7 on the power play while Aurora was 0-4.

FRIDAY SEPT 14 - BUFFALO EDGES PICKERING 4-3 - special teams played a large role in this penalty-filled game. Buffalo stuck first with the only even strength goals of the game in the first period, but Daniel Ebrahim continued his hot streak with a power play goal to pull the Panthers to within one before the intermission. Nathan Gooch tied it up midway through the second with another power play goal, but the Sabres scored short-handed to soon after to make it 3-2.

Buffalo got another power play goal early in the third to make it 4-2 and it stayed that way until Adam Wheaton scored on a Panther Power play with the goalie pulled to get Pickering close with just under two minutes to play, but they couldn't get the equalizer as it ended in a 4-3 Panther loss.

SUNDAY SEPT 9 - PICKERING 4 STOUFFVILLE 2 - although the Panthers had most of the shots (16) and controlled much of the play in the first period, this looked very much like the previous game, where the Spirit picked up a couple of lose pucks near Pickering's net and scored on two of their six shots on net to jump ahead 2-0 before the end of the first period. Pickering's persistence finally paid off as Daniel Ebrahim connected on a power play with a quick snap shot from the slot into the top corner. Adam Wheaton crashed the net with the puck and Jacob DiDanieli tapped in the lose puck to tie the game at 19:04 of the second. Daniel Ebrahim scored a huge goal fourteen seconds later to give Pickering a 3-2 going into the intermission.

The third period was relatively even, but the Panthers took three penalties in the last five minutes to make it exciting. The Pickering penalty kill was solid, holding off the Spirit until Jacob DiDanieli scored his second of the game into an empty net to seal the first victory of the season. Pickering held a 40-28 shot advantage and Andrew Vigliatore got the win in the Panther net.

FRIDAY SEPT 7 - PANTHERS LOSE HOME OPENER 5-2 TO WHITBY - the Panthers outshot Whitby 19-10 in the first period but couldn't score as the Fury pulled ahead late in the period  with the only goal. Whitby went up 2-0 midway through the second but Andrew Poulias scored the first Panther goal of the season on a power play to make it 2-1 at the second intermission. Rookie Daniel Ebrahim scored in the first minute of play in the third, using his speed to break in alone on the goalie and potting his own rebound to tie it at two. It stayed that way until the middle of the period, when the Fury sealed the win with two quick goals and then added another on a power playfor the 5-2 final. Pickering outshot Whitby 38-26 and Tyler Szczepaniak made 26 saves in the Panther net.

2017-18

PLAYOFFS

WELLINGTON ELIMINATES PICKERING WITH 6-2 WIN - the Wellington Dukes came out on top in game 7 with a 6-2 win over the Panthers. The Dukes came out strong, scoring early in the first and then another strange goal in the last minute of the first on a shot from the goal line deep in the corner that deflected off of the side of Ethan Langevin's pad into the net. The Panthers made it 2-1 early in the second on a great effort by Andrew Hughes to get a pass to Andrew Poulias who made no mistake on his shot to the far corner of the net. That was as close as the Panthers would get as Wellington scored two more to take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. Andrew Hughes got his team-leading fifth goal of the series on a determined solo rush to make it 4-2, but Wellington added two more including an empty net goal for the 6-2 final score. Ethan Langevin was once again terrific in the Panther net making 35 saves as Pickering was outshot 41-18.

As much as this loss hurts, the Panthers made great strides this season and have a strong foundation to build on for next year. The Panthers would like to thank our three graduating players - Zach Anderson, Brock Traill and Andrew Hughes and to Ethan Langevin who will move on to the OHL next year  - for their efforts and contributions this year and wish them every success in their future endeavours.

PANTHERS FORCE GAME 7 WITH 5-4 OT WIN -  this team just won't quit! In a series where the home team has scored first in each game and won those games, the Panthers held true to form, defeating the Wellington Dukes in OT. The first period was a territorial saw-off. Toby Cooper got things rolling for Pickering, but Wellington responded late in the period. The Panthers dominated much of the second period outshooting Wellington 16-9 but weren't able to capitalize. The Dukes went ahead early in the period but Mitchell Doyle scored about one minute later to tie it up at two. The Dukes got another for a 3-2 lead and it stayed that way until Dustyn McFaul's blast from the blue line tied it at three going into the second intermission.

As Pickering had much of the paly in the second, the Dukes did the same in the third, outshooting the Panthers 21-9. Josh Argier poked home a rebound to give Pickering the lead in the period, and then a strange goal for Wellington to tie it up and send the game to extra time - a shot from just inside the blue line that was well over the net hit the glass and rebounded back out in front to a waiting Duke who banged it home. The OT saw both teams miss great scoring chances and both goalies come up with huge saves. The Panthers finally ended it on a terrific effort by Davis Teigen-Katsumi to strip the puck at the Dukes blue line and on the return rush, feather a perfect pass to Andrew Poulias who made no mistake in slamming it home.

Ethan Langevin was again strong in the Panther net, making 41 saves for the win. Game 7 is scheduled for Tuesday night in Wellington, the seventh game in 12 days. It's a shame only one of these teams will move on.

FRIDAY MAR 9 - WELLINGTON TOPS PICKERING 5-4 - a strange game this one. While the Panthers held an overall advantage in play in this game outshooting the Dukes 42-28, it was two strange goals that were the difference. The first was a long high shot from centre ice in the second period that Panther goalie Etahan Langevin appeared to glove but it somehow eluded him and found the net. Andrew Hughes tied the score at 1-1 on an individual effort shortly after, but Wellington got the second goal on a shot from the left circle that bounced up off Langevin, fell behind him and rolled over the goal line. Two unnecessary Pickering penalties led to two other Wellington power play goals in the second while Massimo Petricca added one for the Panthers to make the score 4-2 for the Dukes at the second intermission.

The Panthers came out strong in the third, outshooting Wellington 17-4 ,but were unable to put one home. With about three minutes remaining, Pickering pulled the goalie for an extra attacker, but Wellington scored into the empty net for a 5-2 lead. As we have seen all year, the Panthers are not a team that ever quits. Andrew Hughes scored his second of the game at 17:43 on a power play and with the extra attacker, and Jacob Roach got one more (his third in two games) with 26 seconds remaining to make it really exciting, however, time ran out. Final score 5-4.

WEDNESDAY MAR 7 - PANTHERS WIN 3-2 IN OT - the Panthers were not going to be denied in this one as Andrew Hughes got them going with the only goal of the first period. Jacob Roach scored in the second to give Pickering a 2-0 lead going into the third, but Wellington got one back in the first minute of the third. It stayed that way until 19:04 of the third when the Dukes tied it up to send it to OT. Pickering came out strong in the extra period as both teams had chances to end the game. Jacob Roach tied the series up with his second of the game at the 10:00 mark to make it a 3-2 final. Ethan Langevin again stood tall in the Panther net making 33 saves for the win.

TUESDAY MAR 6 - PANTHERS CLAW BACK IN WITH 3-1 WIN - game three in Wellington was a chance for Pickering to get back into the series after two losses and they took little time in doing so as Mitchell Doyle scored on a shot from the point in the opening minute of play to give Pickering a 1-0 lead. Anthony Azzano added to the lead with a power play goal eight minutes in to make it 2-0 at the first intermission. The second period saw lots of penalties as Wellington seemed to lose their composure. Andrew Poulias put the Panthers up 3-0 late in the period.

Ethan Langevin was outstanding in net for Pickering as he blanked the Dukes until mid-way through the third when they scored their only goal. A seven minute penalty for Wellington at 12:14 of the period help take the pressure off the Panthers as they got their first win of the series and look to tie it up at home on Wednesday. A special mention also for Dustyn McFaul who was dominant on the Panther's defense. Penalty minutes were 51 for Wellington and 10 for Pickering.

SUNDAY MAR 4 - PANTHERS LOSE A CLOSE ONE 4-2 - this game was a battle from start to finish. It was a fast-paced, hard hitting, close checking affair that saw Wellington strike first with the only goal of the first period. Andrew Hughes tied it up in the second but the Dukes got another later in the period to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Pickering had a strong second period but had no luck in finding the Duke's net for the tying goal.

Josh Argier finally tied it up again early in the third on a short-handed breakaway but the tie was short-lived as Wellington got the winning goal three minutes later on a deflected shot in front of the Panther goal. Pickering pressed for the remainder of the period without success and Wellington got the final goal into an empty net at 19:59. Shots on goal were 33-29 in favour of Wellington.

FRIDAY MAR 2 - WELLINGTON DEFEATS PICKERING 6-3 - the playoffs got off to a bit of a rocky start Friday in Wellington as the Panthers dropped a 6-3 decision to the Wellington Dukes. Ethan Langevin was solid in the Panther net and particularly in the first period as the Panthers escaped all even after twenty minutes. Wellington got two quick goals within one minute of each other to start the second, but the Panthers tied it up with two of their own mid-way through the period. Massimo Petricca got the first on a great pass from Tyler Giamov and Adam Wheaton tied it up on a pretty short-handed breakaway goal. Wellington potted two more later in the second for a 4-2 lead at the intermission.

Brock Traill got Pickering back to within one goal early in the second on a five on three Panther power play, but the Dukes added their own power play goal to make it 5-3 and then added an empty netter to make the final 6-3. Pickering had far to many giveaways and exhibited a shaky defense throughout game. Wellington outshot Pickering 34-18.

FRIDAY FEB 25 - PANTHERS WIN 4-2 IN MISSISSAUGA - the first two periods of this final game of the regular season were close, with Brock Traill scoring his 24th, a short-handed goal and the only one until the third period. Adam Wisco made some great saves during these two periods to help Pickering preserve the lead. The Chargers tied it up early in the third, but Jacob Roach with a terrific move on a short-handed breakaway, Josh Jones and Josh Argier (22nd) put the Panthers up 4-1 before Mississauga got one more back with 15 seconds remaining.

The Panthers now move on to face the Wellington Dukes in the first round of the playoffs.

FRIDAY FEB 23 - PANTHERS FALL 4-0 TO AURORA - not much to report here as the Panthers were defeated 4-0 in Aurora. Perhaps Pickering was thinking ahead to their final game in Mississauga, because they didn't have their usual jump in this game. The Tigers scored twice in the first and then early in the second and third. A bit of cockiness for Aurora and frustration for Pickering led to a penalty-filled third period with multiple ejections. The Panthers play their final regular season game in Mississauga on Saturday night.

SUNDAY FEB 18 - PANTHERS GUT OUT A HUGE 3-2 WIN AT NORTH YORK - They were missing five regulars but they played like a team possessed as they downed the North York Rangers 3-2. Dustyn McFaul opened the scoring at the 16:00 minute mark of the first with a power play goal but the Rangers responded about a minute later to make it 1-1 at the first intermission. Anthony Azzano put Pickering ahead 2-1 in the second but again North York responded one minute later to tie it up. Brock Traill put the Panthers ahead to stay later in the period with a great shot to the far top corner for the 3-2 lead.

Ethan Langevin was superb in the third holding off the Rangers in the third period, making 30 saves in total for his thirteenth win of the season and putting Pickering four points up on Trenton and only two behind Markham.

FRIDAY FEB 16 - DUKES EDGE PANTHERS 3-2 - In what may be a potential first round playoff matchup, the Wellington Dukes used two power play goals to edge the Pickering Panthers 3-2. It was a scoreless game until late in the second period when the Dukes got their first power play goal. Jacob Didanieli got one back early in the third, but Wellington added two more to make it 3-1. Pickering wasn't particularly sharp throughout the game and three consecutive penalties late in the second period didn't help.
