Corbett Field was built in 1935 and funded by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration. Corbett Field is a baseball park located south of the Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot, North Dakota. In 1936, the park took on its first name as the Minot Municipal Ballpark.. It was designed by Minot architect Ira Rush. In 1947, the Minot Park Board began improvements on the park, including a roof on the grandstand and field lights. The namesake of the park, Victor A. Corbett, was a local dentist, who served as the president of the Park Board during that time.
From 1950-1957, Corbett Field was the home to the first Minot Mallards, in Mandak League, who integrated with former players from college teams, professional teams and former players from the Negro League. The Mallards then joined the Northern League for the 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1962 seasons. From 1995-1997, the Mallards made a return to Minot and played in the Prairie League.
Corbett Field has since undergone a handful of other upgrades such as new seating as well as a turf field that was recently installed in November of 2017. The field is home to many local teams including the Minot Vistas, Metros, Minot High School as well as the Bishop Ryan Lions. Now, the field is also home to our very own Souris Valley Sabre Dogs. In the 2018 season, Corbett Field won Ballpark Digests' Best of the Ballpark competition to put Minot on the map.
