The history of the SFCBL begins in 2010 when Bill Hancsak started the Palm Beach Blazers, which was a traveling summer college team for local players in Palm Beach County. The Blazers played other local summer college teams based in Ft Lauderdale and Miami which provided games for local college players who did not want to travel far from home to play in the summer.
In 2011, Hancsak met Vince Farfaglia who at the time was scouting and searching for a field for a workout for the Philadelphia Phillies. Throughout 2011, the pair worked together and during that time Farfaglia saw the opportunity to create a well-organized summer collegiate league. In late 2011, Farfaglia founded the South Florida Collegiate League. The inaugural season of the SFCBL began in 2011 with six (6) teams ranging from North Dade County to Palm Beach County. With the success of the first season, the SFCBL expanded to ten (10) teams and the SFCBL was transformed into a 501c3 charitable organization after the 2013 season. In 2024 the SFCBL added four (4) expansion teams and is now fourteen (14) teams from Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties.
The SFCBL has produced several top Major League players; Cedric Mullins, Ryan Yarbrough, Nolan Schanuel, Mason Black, Max Lazar, Caleb Durbin, Joe Lasorsa and Zach Neto. Players from top programs in the country make South Florida their summer collegiate home to improve their college game and prepare for the professional ranks.
After serving as President and Commissioner for 13 seasons, Vince Farfaglia resigned after the 2023 season. He is currently the President and General Manager of the Boca Raton Blazers, Boynton Beach Buccaneers and Delray Beach Lightning. Larry Alintoff was voted in by the SFCBL Executive Board as the current President of the League. The Area Supervisor for the Kansas City Royals and longtime supporter of the SFCBL, Nick Presto, was voted in for a 3-year term by the SFCBL Team Members as Commissioner of Baseball. Bill Hancsak currently serves as the SFCBL Operations Manager.
