Final Day, Blog #2 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2003 AAA Finals

Our last final game brought quite the action as Northern California took an early lead against the Wisconsin ’02 Girls. With an aggressive offense and great passing in front of the goal, Northern California was able to make it 4-0 at the half. Alonso Fernandez had a great game with 4 points! Wisconsin’s goalies did an awesome job this game as Northern California continued to bring the heat. The second half was more of the same, but Madeline Paulson and Abbey Canfield were able to put 2 in the net for Wisconsin. In the end, Northern California took this one 8-2. Congratulations to our AAA Final Champions in the 2003 Division!

We would like to thank all of our players for joining us for the First State Wars Soccer Finals here at Uhilein Soccer Park. We would like to thank their coaches and managers, their parents and all the fans that came out to support these teams. Also, a huge thank you to Uhilein Soccer Park and their staff, our State Wars Soccer sponsors and staff. We’ve had a great year and look forward to seeing all of you next year!

Final Day, Blog #1 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2003 AA Finals

It’s a great day here at Uhilein Soccer Park as we begin our final day of the inaugural State Wars Soccer Tournament. We have witness a lot of talent over the past 10 days and today is no different as our 2003 Division took to the field to compete in their Finals!

Geared up and ready to go was Wisconsin (Red) as they went head to head with Wisconsin (White). WI Red was quick to get points on the scoreboard, but WI White’s Sean Dankert knocked one in on a penalty kick and then got through three defenders to tie up the game. With great defense both teams worked hard on this one, but WI Red was able to get another one in before the half. WI White was quick to tie it again after kick off in the second half, but with WI Red’s great offensive game, they began racking up the points and took this one 8-4. Congratulations Wisconsin Red our 2003 AA Final winners!

Up next Northern California and the Wisconsin ’02 Girls go head to head in our AAA Final. Updates to come.

Day Ten, Blog #5 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2003 Semifinals

Our first match up faced Northern California against Wisconsin (White). Northern California racked up three points in the first half, but Wisconsin’s Sean Dankert wasn’t having it so he put 2 in getting WI on the board. We went to the half 3-2. Straight into the second half, both teams kept fighting for this one. Northern California put 2 more in making the score 5-2, but Dankert, who was on fire, put up another 2 for WI. Despite Dankert’s effort, Wisconsin falls to Northern California 7-4.

Next up Wisconsin (Red) took on Wisconsin ’02 Girls. The girls got the lead early with one from Celia Murphy and one from Rachel Surges, but didn’t stop there and added two more before the half. In the second half the girls stayed strong and went on the win this one 6-0. Tomorrow’s Finals are sure to be quite exciting!

Day Ten, Blog #4 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2001/02 AAA Finals

Our AAA Bronze game in the 2001/02 Division kicked off with a very aggressive Wisconsin ’02 (Red) going after Northern California. It was and up and down the field game as both teams fought for this one. Northern California demonstrated a great passing game and with the right positioning in from of Wisconsin’s goal knocked in three in the first half. Into the second half, Northern California wasn’t letting up, as they put three more on the board to win the Bronze. Wisconsin should be really proud of their players and especially their goalie’s as they took on tons of shots from Northern California. Congratulations to both teams.

Up next we had our AAA Final game between Illinois and Wisconsin ’01 (Red). This was one tough face off as it was evident both of these teams really wanted that State Wars Gold! The first half was packed with exciting near misses from both Illinois and Wisconsin, keeping everyone on their toes. Illinois was first on the board scoring off a penalty kick. We continued to see some amazing saves from the Illinois’ goalie as Wisconsin turned up the heat. With just over 30 seconds left in the first half, they tied this one up also with a penalty kick. In the second half, Wisconsin came out strong and stuck on in the net on yet another penalty kick. With a strong offense, Illinois put in another to keep this battle going, and then another and in a break away one more after that to secure Illinois as our AAA Champions. Congratulations to both teams, this was an exciting game to watch!

Day Ten, Blog #3 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2003 Awards

After some great games over the past few days we area ready to announce our 2003 Division All-Star Teams. They will go head to head in tomorrow’s All-Star game. Playing for Team Pride will be from Wisconsin, Alex Kaplan (WI Red), Nathan Kasdorf (WI White), Sidney Paulson (WI ’02 Girls), Will Phillips (WI Red), Cole Pieper (WI White), Madeline Paulson (WI ’02 Girls) and Alex Gall (WI Red). Alongside them from Northern California will be, Alonso Fernandez, Christopher Alfaro, Dimitri Brzycki and Juan Carlo Bonilla.

Going head to head with Team Pride will be the players from Team Honor. From Wisconsin, McCarthy Reed (WI Red), Sean Dankert (WI White), Elena Rojas (WI ’02 Girls), Will O’Connor (WI Red), Luca Paladino (WI White), Caityln Garris (WI ’02 Girls), Anna Nelson (WI ’02 Girls) and Zachary Meissner (WI White). Helping them out from Northern California, Alex Izaguirre, Johan Solorio and Estevan Poroj. Should be a great game tomorrow!

After all of the effort these players have put forth, we need to recognize a few players. Congratulations to Sean Dankert from Wisconsin (White) as our High Scorer for the 2003 Division and to Dimitri Brzycki and Juan Carlo Bonilla who will share this year’s honor of Top Goal Keeper. Congratulations to these players for their outstanding performance this tournament.

Day Ten, Blog #2 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2001/02 AA Finals

Our AA Finals brought quite the action this morning. In our AA Bronze game we watched as Wisconsin ’02 (White) took on the Wisconsin ’02 Girls. What a tough game as each goalie took on over 20 shots from their opposing team’s players, until one passed by WI ’02 Girls’ Lauren Freeck and WI ’02 (White) took the lead, and in the end the bronze medal with a 1-0 win.

The Championship AA Final was next and Wisconsin ’01 (White) came ready to play Michigan. With a great offensive game and a lot of teamwork, WI ’01 put 2 points on the board early in the first half and knocked one more in to make the score 3-0 at the half. They weren’t done there as Noah Harrington put one in shortly after kickoff in the second period. Wisconsin’s goalie Nathan Brockman had quite the game deflecting most of Michigan’s shots, until halfway through the second period when one got by him, and shortly after that another making the score 4-2. Michigan was putting up a fight for this one, but it wasn’t enough, as Wisconsin became our Champions with a final score of 6-2. Great work from both these teams!

Day Ten, Blog #1 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2003 Coverage

It’s been a packed morning here at Uhilein Soccer Park as the 2003 Division hit the field in the last games before this afternoon’s Semifinals! Starting us out today, a home turf match up between Wisconsin ’02 Girls and Wisconsin (Red). The battle was back and forth as these two teams worked hard to overpower each other. We were tied 1-1 at the half. With strong defense from both sides, it was neck and neck into the second half, until Anna Nelson knocked one in for the Girls securing their win 2-1.

Geared up for the next game was Northern California and Wisconsin (White). Northern California’s Alonso Fernandez put in two to give Northern Cali the lead at half. Sean Dankert from Wisconsin fought back putting two in the net, but it wasn’t enough as Northern California knocked in two more in the second half to make final score 4-2.

Day Nine, Blog #4 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2003 Skills

Our last event of the evening here at Uhilein Soccer Park is our 2003 Skills Competition. We had over 15 participants going out for our Fastest Runner, Top Kicker and Top Goal Keeper in the 2003 Division. There was quite the talent on the field, but a few individuals stood out. Congratulations to Alex Gall from Wisconsin Red as this year’s Fastest Runner, Esteban Poroj from Northern California as our Top Kicker and Dimitri Brzycki from Northern California  as our Top Goal Keeper.

Day Nine, Blog #3 - State Wars Soccer Final

2001/02 AAA Semifinals

After an exciting AA Semifinals, we were looking forward to more of the same in our AAA Semifinals. Wisconsin ’01 (Red) did not disappoint as they came out hard against Wisconsin ’02 (Red). Within minutes they WI ’01 had started racking up points, with their great positioning in front of the goal. This offensive team had the support of their goalie keeping the ball on their opponent’s side of the field for most of the game. Final score 10-0 Wisconsin ’01 (Red) will move onto our AAA Finals tomorrow afternoon.

Our next match up in the AAA Semifinals was between Illinois and Northern California, and it was a heated game indeed. Illinois was quick on their feet and floated two in over the head of Northern California’s goalie. With great setups in front of the goal and a strong defense, Illinois was ahead at the half 3-0. Northern California put in a great effort and had some strong shots that just missed the goal ricocheting off the wall.  The second half was quite the battle and Northern California worked to come from behind. They finally got one in over the head of Illinois’s goalie halfway through the second period. As Illinois kept up with their strong offensive game, we saw an incredible defense by Northern California and incredible saves by their goalie. In the end, Illinois advances 5-1.

Tomorrow’s Finals are sure to bring more great action to the field. You don’t want to miss it.

Day Nine, Blog #2 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2001/02 AA Semifinals

Our AA Semifinals in the 2001/02 Division were packed with action. First to take the field was Wisconsin ’01 (White) against Wisconsin ’01 Girls. Noah Harrington had quite the game for WI White as he put in 3. The Girls put up a fight with the score 3-1 at the half. Back in the second half WI White turned up the heat and knocked 2 more past the girls to secure their win and place in our AA Final game tomorrow.

Next on the field we witness quite a game as Michigan took on Wisconsin ’02 White. WI ’02 White got on the board first and kept Michigan from tying it up through the first half. Michigan came out strong in the second half and put two on the board, showing WI they were here to play. Spencer Strye from WI tied up the game and into overtime we went. Keeping a tie score, it was time for our penalty kick shoot out; each team had five shots on goal, with the first to score winning the game. It went back and forth as Joel Williams from WI and Gabriel Freytag from Michigan took shot after shot in the goal. Both deflected the first four, but things changed when Michigan’s Tyler Ison got up to shoot and put one right past Joel Williams to win it for Michigan. Michigan will take on WI ’01 White tomorrow morning in our AA Finals! Congratulations to all our teams!

Day Nine, Blog #1 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2003 Kicks Off

This morning we kicked off the last division of this year’s State Wars Soccer Finals with our 2003 Division. Getting us started Wisconsin (Red) and Wisconsin (White) went head to head. Zachary Meissner had a great game in the goal for WI (White) with taking on over 30 shots from WI (Red).  Ultimately WI (Red) pulled this one off 6-3. Our next game faced Wisconsin ’02 Girls against Northern California. The girls from Wisconsin put up quite the defensive fight, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Northern California.

After a short rest, Northern California geared up to take on Wisconsin ’03 (Red). This was a tough game as both teams demonstrated great passing and defense. We were tied 1-1 going into the half. Second period, Christopher Alfaro put one in to give Northern California the lead and secure their win. Currently on the field, in our last 2003 game of the day, Wisconsin (White) is battling it out against the Wisconsin ’02 Girls. The girls are ahead right now, but there is still plenty of game to play.

Day Eight, Blog #3 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2001/02 Skills and Awards

Watching all these round robin game in the 2001/02 Division has really shown how much talent these young players have. We would like to congratulate Brandon Manzo from Wisconsin ’01 Red as this year’s High Scorer and Ethyn Burczyk from Wisconsin ’01 Red as our Most Valuable Goal Keeper. Very impressive skills you both have!

It’s also time for our All-Star announcement. Our coaches really noticed these players this year for their effort during this tournament. Making up Team Pride from Wisconsin, Brandon Manzo (’01 Red), Noah Harrington (’01 White), Jack Hansen (’02 Red), Jack Oswald (’02 White), Nicole Senski (’01 Girls), Nicolas Saldana (’01 Red), Max Stilb (’02 Red), Jonah Rindfleisch (’02 Red) and Nathan Brockman (’01 White). Joining them will be from Northern Calfornia, James Mazariegos and Leonel Deleon, from Michigan, Joshua Andres and from Illinois, Steven Udy and Jared Albarran.

Taking them on Friday will be Team Honor. Members include from Wisconsin, Collin Satchie (’01 Red), Matias Dermond (’01 White), Connor Leffler (’02 Red), Andrew Tingley (’02 White), Madison Wyderka (’01 Girls), Anthony Rivera (’01 Red) and Ethyn Burczyk (’01 Red). Helping them out will be Danielson Calderon, Eduardo Sanchez and Johny Aviles from Northern California, Aidan Garret and Ethan Lakatos from Michigan and Eric Romirez and Daniel Flores from Illinois. This is such a fun game to watch so if you’re in the area, stop by Friday. Kick off is scheduled for 3:40PM.

Lastly today, after a great Skills Competition, we have our winners. Fastest Runner went to Brandon Manzo from Wisconsin ’01 Red. Our Top Kicker in the 2001/02 Division was Matias Dermond from Wisconsin ’01 (White) and our Top Goal Keeper in the Skills Competition was Roberto Collin. Congratulations to all our participants. We look forward to more great soccer tomorrow.

Day Eight, Blog #2 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2001/02 Updates

This afternoon’s round robin games have packed in the action. Wisconsin ’01 (Red) had a great showing against the Wisconsin ’01 Girls team. Brandon Manzo was on fire with half of his team’s points. The girls got a few in and Lauren Freeck took a great amount of shots in the goal, but Wisconsin ’01 (Red) took this one. Immediately hitting the field next, Northern California was ready for Wisconsin ’02 (White). With an accurate passing game and great shots from the side, Northern California was ahead at the half 4-0. Wisconsin had an amazing defensive showing from their defenders and goalie. Working together they blocked quite a number of Northern California’s shots, but it wasn’t enough as California took this one.

In our next game Michigan came face to face with Wisconsin ’01 (White). WI was first to knock one in, but within minutes Michigan tied it up. There were some great passes and WI got their foot on one of them to make the score 2-1, but right away again, Michigan answered back. We were tied at the half, but Wisconsin wanted this one bad and put in 5 more in the second half to secure their win. Currently in action on the field, Illinois is taking on Wisconsin ’02 (Red).

Day Eight, Blog #1 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2001/02 Division Coverage

We’re back with more round robin action in the 2001/02 Division here at Uhilein Soccer Park. With 8 teams competing in this division, we have had the opportunity to see some great games. Tomorrow’s Semifinals will sure bring some excitement for these players and their fans!

We had a few more games last night in which Michigan overcame Wisconsin ’02 (White), Northern California shut out Wisconsin ’01 (White) and Wisconsin ’02 (Red) worked the Wisconsin ’01 Girls. All this play will determine how our teams are seeded for the finals.

Today started out early as Wisconsin ’01 (Red) battled Wisconsin ’02 (White). Colin Satchie had a great showing for WI ’01 (Red) as the whole team worked hard to shut out WI ’02 (White).  Up next on the field, Northern California came out hard against Wisconsin ’01 Girls. Kudos to Lauren Freeck of WI as she took on over 30 shots in the goal, but it wasn’t enough as Northern California’s offense racked up a score of 10-2. Playing their hometown rival, Wisconsin ’01 (White) took on Wisconsin ’02 (Red). This game was neck and neck the whole way as both teams demonstrated great skills both offensively and defensively. We ended in a tie. Geared up and ready to go was Illinois who faced Michigan next. Colton Milosch knocked in 3 points and at the end Illinois stood victorious.

Day Seven, Blog #4 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2000 Girls Finals

Coming out hard in our 2000 Girls Division AA Final Game was Northern California. With Alyiha Hernandez in the goal, Northern California kept Wisconsin ’01 scoreless in the first half. Alyiha had some amazing saves, great job. Our Wisconsin ’01 Girls forced Northern California up and down the field, and had some great shots, but at the half, Northern California was ahead 3-0. After the half, Wisconsin came onto the field to show Northern California what they could do, and boy did they! Madison Wyderka and Harper Johnson both knocked in two. Wisconsin was on its way back and they came behind to win 5-4. Congratulations to both teams for all their hard work.

Next up in our Finals was Wisconsin ’00 vs. Michigan. These teams really fought this one out, but Wisconsin was able to get on the board with one in the first half. Back in the game for the second half we witnessed more great passing and defense from each team. Wisconsin was able to get one more in the net in the second half and that secured their win over Michigan. Great team effort from both teams. Congratulations to Wisconsin!

Day Seven, Blog #4 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2000 Finals and All-Star Coverage

Our finals action is now underway in the 2000 Division. Taking the field in the AA Finals was Indiana vs. Wisconsin ’99 Girls. Cooper Young and Connor Hollett each knocked in 2 for Indiana, but it wasn’t enough as the WI ’99 Girls put in a true team effort to come away with this one 6-4.

In our championship game, it was a battle for home turf. Wisconsin (Red) was all over the field with amazing passing, quick footwork and a strong defense. Wisconsin (White) put in a strong effort and Cole Wilson did a great job in the goal. In the end, Wisconsin (Red) secured this one 5-2. Congratulations to our champions in the 2000 Division – Wisconsin (Red) and to our MVP Sam Runyan!

Shortly after our Championship, our All-Star action got underway, and it was quite the crowd pleaser. We saw some great action and good passing but the stand out moment was the shirt carrying of the ball! I mean, it’s not a hand ball, if you capture it in your shirt and take off running, right?!?!? Team Honor was first to put points on the board, but Team Pride came right back and stayed strong with a great defense and great passing skills. It was a great game to celebrate all of the hard work these players put forth during this tournament.

Day Seven, Blog #3 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2000 Girls Awards

Now it’s the Girls turn for some Awards! We have witnessed a great deal of talent in this Division, but a few key players stood out for their impressive skills and efforts this tournament. Congratulations to Kate McArthur from Michigan for taking the honors as our High Scorer, and Jenna Dankert from Wisconsin ‘00 takes home our Top Goal Keeper award.

We are looking forward to this All-Star game tomorrow morning. Team Pride will consist of Kate McArthur and Haley Provist from Michigan. Joining them from Wisconsin will be Emma Torres (’00), Harper Johnson (’01), Abbey Canfield (’02), Sophia Toscano (’00), Ashlyn Knieriem (’01), Kassidy Lange (’00) and Jenna Dankert (’00) with support from Yuliana Velazquez and Celeste Chavez from Northern Calfornia.

They are gearing up to take on Team Honor. Sara Izaguirre, Shelby Budnick, Mackenzie Tolitsky and Callie Rich from Michigan will join Selena Esten (’00), Taylor Alsaker (’01), Madeline Paulson (’02), Mikaila Briglevic (’00) and Elena Rojas (’02) from Wisconsin, while Jocylne Garcia and Irana Maldonado from Northern California are also on hand to assist. It should be a great game!

Day Seven, Blog #2 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2001/02 Division

Bringing in the 2001/02 Division this morning at Uhilein Soccer Park, we knew we would see some great games with 8 teams ready to show their stuff. Hitting the field first, Northern California fell to Wisconsin ’01 (Red). We witnessed a hometown battle between Wisconsin ’02 White and Wisconsin ’01 Girls, with WI ’02 being victorious. Wisconsin ’01 (White) took on their neighbors to the South, Illinois in our third game of the day and Illinois showed they came to play overpowering WI’ 01. Michigan was geared up and ready to go next, but Wisconsin ’02 (Red) wasn’t having it.

We have got some more great games schedules for this evening as all of these teams work for a coveted spot in Thursday’s Semifinals.

Day Seven, Blog #1 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2000 Awards

After some intense games here at Uhilein Soccer Park, our 2000 Division awards presentation got underway. We need to recognize two players whose talent is very impressive and their dedication to the game is clear. Congratulations to High Scorer Brian Holdmann, from Wisconsin ’00 (Red) and after taking a lot of heat in the net, Colin Coplen from Indiana deserves our Most Valuable Goalkeeper honors. Congratulations and great work!

With these awards, comes our All-Star Team announcement! The members of Team Pride from Wisconsin are Brian Holdmann (WI Red), Ian Williams WI (White), Erin Benson (WI ’99 Girls), Sam Runyan (WI Red), Adam Larson (WI White), Hailey Malloy (WI ’99 Girls) and Caleb Blair (WI Red). Working with them against Team Honor will be Conner Hollett, Colin Coplen and Nicholas Harding from Indiana.

The members of Team Honor from Wisconsin are Jared Holan (WI Red), TJ Wojciechowski (WI White), Bryana Niemcyzski (WI ’99 Girls), Max Censky (WI Red), MarianoTenuta (WI White), Max Pieper (WI Red), Gwen Schad (WI ’99 Girls) and Cole Wilson (WI White). Helping them out will be Jacob Harding from Indiana. This should be an exciting game and it kicks off in about an hour and a half.

Day Six, Blog #3 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2000 Semifinals

Our Semifinals brought quick the action tonight as Wisconsin ’00 (Red) prepared to take on Wisconsin ’99 Girls.  It was quite the game for WI ’00 as they overtook the WI ’99 Girls to move into our Finals. Max Pieper and Ethan Ellerbrock had great showings, but this was a true team effort from WI ’00. We look forward to the tomorrow’s game!

Our next semifinal game was between Indiana and Wisconsin ’00 (White). Adam Larson had a nice showing for Wisconsin, and despite the final score favoring Wisconsin 4-2, Colin Coplen had another great game in the goal with over 30 saves! Tomorrow’s Finals will sure be exciting to watch.

Day Six, Blog #2 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2000 Coverage

Kicking off today’s games, the 2000 Girls Division got into action with Wisconsin ’00 (Red) taking on Wisconsin ’02. With an excited crowd, the Wisconsin ’00 (Red) team had a great showing and overtook Wisconsin ’02. A great effort was put forth from Sophia Toscano as she racked up 3 points and 2 assists.  Northern California took the field next to take on Wisconsin ’01. Off to an early lead with Ivana Madlonado’s 3 points, Northern California was ahead at the half. With a strong defensive line, they were able to come away with this one 4-2.

The 2000 Division got back into action mid-morning with our only out-of-state team, Indiana working hard to overcome Wisconsin (Red). With a tough loss last night, this team came out strong today. With no substitutions and a great showing by goalkeeper Colin Coplen, Indiana has definitely been noticed for their team effort and dedication. Still, Wisconsin took this one. Wisconsin (White) was next on the field against Wisconsin ’99 Girls and it was quite the battle. Tied going into the half, Wisconsin White’s TJ Wojciechowski secured their 2-1 with his second goal.

Back in the Girls Division, Michigan took Wisconsin ’00 (Red), Northern California defeated Wisconsin ’02 and Michigan also blew past Wisconsin ’01. Tomorrow’s playoffs and finals are sure to bring the action. Can’t wait to see who takes our championship in the 2000 Girls Division.

Day Six, Blog #1 - State Wars Soccer Finals

2000 Skills Competitions

The competition started out strong this morning as our 2000 Skills competitors took to the field to show their stuff. With over 15 competitors from Wisconsin and Indiana we were amazed by the talent we witnessed. Taking the honors as our Top Kicker was Jared Holan from Wisconsin (Red). Our Fastest Runner was Max Censky also from Wisconsin (Red). Showing his skills in the net, our Top Goal Keeper was Cole Wilson from Wisconsin (White). Congratulations to all of our competitors and our winners!

Before we ended last night, our 2000 Girls hit the field to demonstrate what they can do. With a great turnout of competitors (over 20) we were really in for some action. Competing in both the Fastest Runner and Top Kicker categories, Jocylne Garcia from Northern California dominated the competition and took both honors home with her. Mackenzie Tolitsky from Michigan wowed in the goal and won our Top Goal Keeper award. Congratulations to our award winners!

Day Five, Blog #3 - State Wars Soccer Finals

1998 Finals

What a day it has been here at Uhilein Soccer Park. The 1998 Division Finals brought quite the excitement to the field. After being neck and neck until halftime, the Wisconsin ’97 Girls pulled off a won over WI ’98 Girls in the AA Finals. Up next was our Championship game where Southern California faced off against Wisconsin ’98. Gerardo Rodriguez had quite an impressive game scoring 4 of So. Cal’s 7 points. They become our 1998 Division Champions. Congratulations to Southern California!

The Girls finals were up next. In the AA Final Michigan went head to head with Wisconsin ’00. Selena Esten of WI ’00 had 2 points, but it wasn’t a match for Michigan’s Madison Enderle as she put of 3 of her team’s 5 points. Michigan takes the Bronze.

Last Final of the day matched up Wisconsin ’98 Girls with Wisconsin ’99 Girls. What an effort WI ’98 put into this one. With great showings from Jieun Heo (3 points) and Maureen Burke (4 points), Wisconsin ’98 walked away with this one 10-0. Congratulations to our 1998 Girls Division Champions!

The 2000 Division kept the action coming, and it’s still going on now. In the girls division, Wisconsin took Northern California, Michigan took Northern California and it was a heated matched up between hometown Wisconsin ’01 and Wisconsin ’02 as we end in a tie. In the 2000 Division, Indiana took Wisconsin ’99 Girls and Wisconsin (Red) overcame Wisconsin (White). In another hometown battle, Wisconsin (Red) swept Wisconsin ’99 Girls and with about 15 minutes left in the first half, Wisconsin ’00 is ahead of Indiana 1-0.

2000 Matchups

This morning in the 2000 Girls Division, Wisconsin ’00 overcame Wisconsin ’01 and Michigan dominated Wisconsin ’02. Michigan’s Kate McArthur had an impressive game with 5 points! And despite the score, Wisconsin’s Anna Nelson had a lot of great saves in the net. We have more action from the girls later today as Northern California gets their chance on the field against Wisconsin ’00. Our 2000 Division gets started with a hometown match up as Wisconsin (Red) takes on Wisconsin (White) and later Indiana will enters the competition.

Currently on the field is our 1998 AA Finals game between the Wisconsin ’98 Girls and Wisconsin ’97 Girls. It’s been heated as each team is out for that medal. We’re tied right now at the half 3-3. Check back to see who takes this one and who is our 1998 Division Champions!

Good morning and welcome back to all the action here in Milwaukee. Hitting the field first thing in the 2000 Division, are Wisconsin (Red) and Wisconsin ’01. It should be quite the match up in yet another hometown battle. We’ll be watching all day today as teams from Indiana, Northern California and Michigan take on each other for a spot in the Semifinals.

We had a ton of action in the 1998 Division yesterday and we need to recognize a few players who really showed their skills. Congratulations to Payton Wesley from Wisconsin ’98 Girls who took the honors as this year’s Top Scorer and her teammate, Madeline Schneiker, this year’s Top Goal Keeper. Great job girls!

Now it’s on for the All-Star announcement. All of our teams have worked really hard here at State Wars Soccer Finals, but these players were this year’s picks by our coaches. Playing for Team Pride from Wisconsin, Payton Wesley (’98 Girls), Alaina Nash, (’99 Girls), Selena Esten (’00), Jieun Heo (’98 Girls), Hailey Malloy (’99 Girls), Adrianna Henry (’98 Girls), Sofia Toscano (’00), Aubrey Tarmann (’99 Girls) and Jenna Dankert (’00). Helping them out from Michigan, Amy Scruggs, Kyla Breckenridge and Jalyn Breckenridge.

Let’s see who they face this afternoon. Day Four, Blog #4 - State Wars Soccer Finals

1998 Semifinals Coverage

This afternoon we launched right into our semifinals with the 1998 Division. Going head to head first was Southern California and Wisconsin ’97 Girls. These teams who met earlier today both came out fighting, but Southern California’s technical skills brought on the same conclusion with California taking it home 10-0. Leo Zarate came through with 3 points while Jose Orellana and Gabriel Ubario each put in 2. Southern California advances to the finals.

Next up, Wisconsin ’98 and Wisconsin ’98 Girls faced off. Sam Kornetzke and Samuel Gomez each had awesome games and helped Wisconsin ’98 take it 11-3. Wisconsin ’98 moves forward.

Without a rest Wisconsin ’98 Girls hit the field again to take on Wisconsin ’00.  This match up was over quickly as Wisconsin ’98’s Jieun Heo put in 2, Jordyn Rolli put in 2 and the rest of the girls pitched in to make the final score 10-0. Nice work girls.

Our last game of the night put Wisconsin ’99 Girls and Michigan ’99 Girls on the field. We were neck and neck throughout the game as Madison Enderle from Michigan knocked in 2 and Bryana Niemczynski put in 2 for Wisconsin. We were tied going into the final 8 minutes of the game, but Wisconsin pulled through with a 5-4 victory. We look forward to tomorrow’s Championships in the 1998 Division!

Team Pride vs. Team Honor

It was quite the match up as Team Pride and Team Honor went head to head in the 1999 Division All-Star Game. Team Honor was quick to take the lead and kept strong til the half with a 3-1 score. Martin Marenski was not having it in the second half for Team Pride and put 2 in back to back. It went back and forth throughout the second half as all of our all-stars gave it their all, but Team Honor was triumphant with a final score of 7-4.

1998 Coverage and Awards Presentations

We have seen quite some match ups in the 1998 Division. This morning the Wisconsin ’98 Girls battled it out with Wisconsin ’98. It was a tough game as Wisconsin ’98 put the pressure on and didn’t let up. At half, they were ahead of the girls 4-2 and they held onto that lead throughout the second. It was a great game for Samuel Gomez and Sam Kornetzke who each knocked in two for Wisconsin ’98.

Up next Southern California took to the field against Wisconsin ’97 Girls. With an incredible passing game, Southern California moved the ball all over the field and finally put their first one in the net at a penalty kick. Southern Cali continued to rack up the points throughout the first half and with their ability to move the ball around their opponents overpowered the girls to a final score of 11-1.

Tonight we’ve got more action as our semifinals get underway, but first we have our 1998 Division Awards announcements.

1999 Finals Update

Back for another day of action here at Uhilein Soccer Park and thing heated up early as we wrapped up the 1999 Division with our Finals. Wisconsin (Red) came out hot against Illinois putting up two quickly, but Illinois brought an aggressive offense with them and they fought back. At half the score favored Wisconsin, 4-2. Illinois demonstrated some great footwork and ball handling skills, but it was Joel Kaswan’s stellar goal keeping that kept Wisconsin ahead. It was a close one, each team played their hearts out, but Wisconsin was able to hold their lead and become our 1999 Division Champions! Congratulations to Wisconsin (Red), and our MVP of the game Joel Kaswan!

Day Three, Blog #4 - State Wars Soccer Finals

Semifinals for the 1999 Division

Wisconsin (Red) took the cake in this semifinal hometown match up against Wisconsin (White). Patrick Stilb knocked in 3 and an assist, while teammate, Manuel Valenzuela put 2 in and supported Patrick on one. All in all this was quite the game as Wisconsin (Red) put all their points up in the first half, not a goal was scored in the second half! Wisconsin (Red) advances to the Finals with a score of 11-1. Let’s see who they face.

South Carolina and Illinois came head to head next and we started out with a strong defense from both teams. Andy Jankowski finally knocked one in to put a point up before the half. Most scoring action took place in the second half as Illinois put up four more to secure their spot in the finals. An impressive showing from South Carolina’s Gavin McCraw as he took on more than 40 shots tonight. Illinois moves on 5-1.

It will be an exciting morning tomorrow as we continue our coverage of the 1998 Division and we watch hometown Wisconsin (Red) take on their neighbor, Illinois in the 1999 Division Finals.

Before we leave you tonight we also have some Skills Competition Coverage. Kicking off our 1998 Division today, we got to see a lot of players in action, warming up their skills. From tonight’s 1999 Skills competition we congratulate Jorge Orellana from Southern California as Top Kicker, Rashawn Jackson from Wisconsin as our Fastest Runner and Cade Leathern from Southern California as our Top Goal Keeper.

It wasn’t just about the guys tonight though, the ladies skills competition rounded out our events for the day and walking away with the honors were Adriana Henry from Wisconsin as our Fastest Runner, Madison Enderle from Michigan as our Top Kicker and Kalyn Breckenridge from Michigan as our Top Goal Keeper. Congratulations 1998 Girls Skills winners.

1998 Division in Action

Today has been intense here at Uhilein Soccer Park. The 1998 Division got started bright and early and Southern California came in strong and remained that way. Moving past Wisconsin ’98 Girls this morning, they faced off against Wisconsin ’98 shortly after noon and within the first half secured their advancement.

Before Wisconsin ’98 fell to Southern California they ripped past Wisconsin ’97 Girls with a score of 13-4. Will they be able to do the same with Wisconsin ’98 Girls? We’ll find out tomorrow as all of these teams continue vying for a spot in tomorrow night’s Semifinals.

The ’98 Girls Division began with a hometown battle between Wisconsin ’98 and Wisconsin ’99. Greta Ricigliano had a strong showing with 3 point and an assist. The team worked hard to move past Wisconsin ’99 with a final score 10-1. Michigan moved past Wisconsin ’00 in the morning and this afternoon they take on Wisconsin ’98.

1999 Awards & All-Stars

After some spectacular playing the coaches have submitted their votes for the 1999 All-Star Teams. Hitting the field tomorrow at 12:20PM for Team Pride is, from Illinois, Danny Alexander, Michael Botello and Andy Jankowski. Working with them from Wisconsin (Red) is Patrick Stilb, Scott Areuzon and Joel Kaswan, and from Wisconsin (White) Martin Marenski and Jacob Mast, with Jared Holan from Wisconsin 2000. Rounding out the roster for Team Pride from South Carolina is Nater Almassri, David Walsh and Keenan Boland. 

Will they dominate Team Honor? Let’s see who they’re up against. From Illinois, Jakob Arnvig and Antonio Rivas. With Manuel Valenzuela, Dominic Mandella, Logan Black and Andrew Pierangeli from Wisconsin (Red), and from Wisconsin (White) Serafino Covelli and Cole Bogenschuetz. Also helping out will be Brian Holdman from Wisconsin 2000 and from South Carolina, Bryce Tanner, Carson Bohannon and Gavin McCaw. Team Honor takes on Team Pride Saturday.

With Semifinals only a few hours away, we also want to recognize a few players for their incredible performances this tournament. 1998 Division Kicks Off

Welcome back to the State Wars Soccer Finals! We welcome the 1998 Division this morning and they got straight into action. Southern California gets the award for the team that traveled the farthest and they sure came ready to play. With impressive footwork, amazing ball handling skills and a great field strategy, this is a great team to watch! We'll report back on how they match up against hometown Wisconsin teams!

Day Three, Blog #4 - State Wars Soccer Finals

High School Coverage

Early today we witnessed New Jersey and Ohio go head to head in our High School Division playoff game. Ohio took and early lead and never looked back. New Jersey put up a fight, but fell short with Ohio advancing 5-4.

Onto the Semifinals and Ohio didn’t have long to rest before they faced Wisconsin (White).  Straight after kickoff, Ohio got themselves on the board, but Wisconsin wasn’t having it and put up two. At half we were tied 3-3. It was the second half that Wisconsin decided this was their house and put in 4 more to secure their win 7-3.

Up next on the field, Northern California took on Wisconsin (Red).  German Hernandez of Northern California has a great game with 3 points and 2 assists, putting Northern California ahead. At the half Wisconsin had knocked on in to make the score 4-1, Northern California. It was all Northern California in the second half as they added another 4 to their already generous lead, securing their spot in the finals. Final score: 8-1.

Our High School Finals was definitely a rematch as Wisconsin (White) had been the only team to beat Northern California in the preliminary games. Will they be able to do it again? Yes indeed, but not without a fight. At the half it looked as though Northern California could take with the score being 3-2, but Wisconsin came back with one from Trace O’Rorke and one from Mason Gretzon to put Wisconsin as this year’s High School Champions. Congratulations to Wisconsin (White) and to their MVP #17 Alex Huerta!

Tomorrow we are back at it bright and early as our 1998 Division kicks off, and we move into our Semifinals for the 1999 Division. We’ll be here with all the updates.

Day Three, Blog #3 - State Wars Soccer Finals

1997 All-Star Action

We saw plenty of players giving it their all in this All-Star game. In the first half Team Pride was quick to knock one in, but this being the All-Stars, Team Honor answered back. Tyler Schwalbach was aggressive both on the field and in the goal making the saves for Team Honor. It was great to see how easily these players from all around the country worked together. Team Pride was ahead at the half, and held strong to win 7-3. Congratulations to all of our All-Star players, you all are very talented.

1997 Finals

We have had quite the action here today as the teams from Northern California and Wisconsin took to the field to fight for the first championship of this tournament.

Both teams came out to win today, but it was Northern California who was able walk away with the honors. Christian Webb from Northern California was on fire today with 4 points and deservingly so was named this year’s MVP!

Congratulations to Northern California – State Wars Soccer Champions 1997 Division! We look forward to the All-Star game, which is only 40 minutes away!

We are gearing up this afternoon with our High School Division Semifinals. Will Ohio stop hometown Wisconsin (White)? Northern California rematches with Wisconsin (Red), who will make it to our finals???  Stay tuned to find out.

High School Honors

Welcome back to the State Wars Soccer Finals here at Uhilein Soccer Park. We are back in the action today and looking forward to some great games. With both our 1997 Division Finals and our High School Finals – we are in for some excitement!

First though, after some stellar performances in the High School Division it’s time to recognize some key players for their effort during this tournament and of course, let’s find out which players our coaches selected for this year’s High School All-Star game.

Congratulations go out to Adrian Toscano from Northern California for taking our High Scorer Award and to Jordan Salm from Wisconsin (White) who took the Top Goal keeper honors. Great showing!

Now onto the High School All-Star team which will compete in our last event this evening at 8:40PM.

Members of Team Pride are from Northern California Adrian Toscano, Christian Mendoza and German Hernandez. From Ohio, Ryan Hadley and Kory Hammann, from New Jersey, Anthony Batelli and Sal Turelli and from the hometown, Wisconsin, Jacob Overman and Trace O’Rorke.

They will take on the members of Team Honor. From Northern California, Arturo Cruz and Devon Castro, from Ohio, Sam Maciejewski, from New Jersey, Tyler Nichols and from Wisconsin, Sammy Johnson, Nicolas Ossavelandia, Bernabe Barba, Zach Olson and Jordan Salm. Congratulations to all our High School Division All-Stars. We are ready for a great game tonight!

Day Two, Blog #5 State Wars Soccer Finals

Day Two Update

What a day here at Uhilein! It’s been a long one, but we have made it to our 1997 Semifinals!  Kicking it off Northern California got on the board fast, but Illinois worked to answer back. What a game for goalie, Binay Singh who faced 50 shots from Northern Cali, but it wasn’t enough as Northern California advances 7-3.

In the next Semifinal game, Wisconsin ’97 took an early lead against Wisconsin ’96 Girls, and didn’t let up. An impressive showing from Ashley Grau in the net, she blocked 43 shots tonight! Despite the girls great effort, Wisconsin ’97 will move forward, winning this one 7-2.

Wrapping up the High School Division tonight, Wisconsin (White) put a stop to Northern California, 5-2. New Jersey got their first win tonight against Ohio. Kudos to Nick Mancini from New Jersey for stopping over 40 shots! Great game guys!

1999 Skills Competition

With the 1999 Division hitting the field today, everyone has had a chance to warm up their skills and that’s a good thing because it’s time for the 1999 Skills Competition.

Players from Northern California, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Illinois took to the field to test their Speed, Scoring and Keeping abilities. While there is a ton of talent here, we can only have one winner. So here they are….

Our Fastest Runner is Andrew Pierangeli from Wisconsin, our Top Kicker is Keenan Boland from South Carolina and our Top Goalkeeper is Gavin McCraw from South Carolina. Congratulations to our 1999 Division Skills winners!

1997 Coverage and Awards Presentation

We have witnessed some great talent here in the 1997 Division, and it’s time to recognize some key players and name our All-Star Teams. Now for some game coverage: the Wisconsin vs. Northern California game didn’t turn out the way Wisconsin wanted. They fell to Northern California 5-4.

Both teams came out to play in the Wisconsin ’96 Girls vs. Illinois. It was back and forth down the field as each team demonstrated great offensive and defensive strategies, but it was Paolo Palacios of Illinois that finally knocked one past Wisconsin in the first half. The second half was a bit back and forth until Wisconsin stepped it up. Molly Fromm was in the right place at the right time and knocked one in to tie it up (2-2).  That wasn’t all though, a quick penalty kick turned into a goal putting the girls on top, and a long shot over the goalie’s head secured the girls a 4-3 win.

The 1997 Division Semifinals are tonight. Will Northern California conquer Illinois? Who will come out on top of this hometown face off Wisconsin ’97 or Wisconsin ’96 Girls? Check back here to find out.

The Action Just Gets Better

The competition is getting fierce in the 1999 Division.  It was quite a game as Wisconsin ’00 went head to head with Wisconsin (Red) ’99.  Straight after kickoff WI ’99 began racking up the points. Logan Block for 2, Lukas Migliano, Patrick Stilb and Manuel Valenzuela each knocked one in. Maxwell Censky put up 2 for WI ’00 and Jared Bielinsli added another to take us into the half 5-3. The second half it was all about WI ’99. Dominic Mandella was on fire with 3, and at the end they stood victorious 13-4.

Wisconsin (White) was paired up against their neighbor to the south, Illinois.  Illinois was first to put points on the board in the first half, but Wisconsin’s Martin Mersenski answered back. At the half it was 3-2, Illinois. Wisconsin needed to up their game in the second half, but Jakob Arnvig, Danny Alexander and Michael Botello kept Illinois one step ahead. They take it 6-4.

Back in the High School Division, Wisconsin (Red) showed Ohio whose home this is. After their hometown battle against WI (White) the team worked together to overpower Ohio 10-6. Sammy Johnson is on fire today with another 4 points in this game. Jacob Overman also had a great showing with 4 points, and Zachary Olson and Benjamin Davre knocked two in.  Ohio’s Kory Hammann put in 4 with additional goals by Ben Thiss and Sam Maciejewski. Later tonight Ohio takes on New Jersey – Check back for that coverage.

We’ve moved back into the 1997 Division. Northern California is taking on Wisconsin and with about 18 minutes left in the second half, it’s neck and neck 3-2 Wisconsin. Can they hold on? Stay tuned…

Day Two, Blog #1 State Wars Soccer Finals

Day Two Heats Up

The 1999 Division opened up day two of our State Wars Soccer Finals here at the fabulous Uhilein Soccer Facility, and Wisconsin (Red) came roaring in taking apart Illinois 11-1. Manuel Valenzuela put up 3, but this was a true team effort from Wisconsin (Red). Great way to start the day!

Next on the field, hometown Wisconsin (White) matched up against South Carolina. With South Carolina taking the lead early, Wisconsin worked hard to bring it back, but fell just short in the second half giving South Carolina their first win (5-4).

Battling for home turf in the High School Division, Wisconsin (Red) and Wisconsin (White) proved they both have what it takes. With a score of 3-2 favoring WI (White) at the end of the first half, WI (Red) wasn’t having it and Sammy Johnson put it in the net tying this battle, for now…

Northern California, remained undefeated today as they took on New Jersey in the High School Divison. Adrian Toscano came out hot with 4 points and an assist. New Jersey worked hard with points from Tyler Nichols, Fred Ciampa and Anthony Batelli, but it wasn’t enough to knock Northern California down. They walked away with this one 9-3.

Blog #5 State Wars Soccer Finals

Day One Update

The games are done and the gear has come off and we are all exhausted but excited about our first day of State Wars Soccer Finals!

Finishing out the day for the High School Division was Northern California vs. Ohio. Straight out of the gate Northern California racked up the points with 3 from German Hernandez with assists from Adrian Toscano and Will Guy punched two in to set Northern California up for a potential shut out. Ohio answered back in the second half with 2 goals, one by Ryan Hadley, but it wasn’t enough as Adrian Toscano (2), German Hernandez (1) and Devin Castro (1), put 4 more in to secure a win 9-2.  More High School action continues tomorrow morning so check back here for updated game coverage.

Before we close out day one, we need a little skills competition. First up the 1997 Division hit the field to test their skills in Speed, Kicking and Keeping. Taking the cake for the Division was Fernando Biorato from Northern California as Fastest Runner, Antonio Enriquez as Top Kicker and Tyler Schwalbach as Top Goalkeeper.

Onto the High School Skill Masters - Fastest Runner was Anthony Batelli from New Jersey, Sammy Johnson from Wisconsin took home Top Kicker and Christian Mendozo from Northern California took the title as Top Goalkeeper.

1997 Division News

Still plenty of action going on here at Uhilein, we’ve seen some great ball today in the 1997 Division. Opening today’s game Wisconsin came in strong scoring 7 points in the first half against Illinois. Nat Esten put up 2 points early, while Zach Blair assisted John Ensch and Carlos OssaVelandia giving Wisconsin a strong lead. They weren’t done there as Antonio Enriquez threw one to Zach Blair just before taking one of his own. Nat Esten added another to finished up an exciting first half. With great field coverage and strong passes Wisconsin looked as though they would shut out Illinois until the last five minutes of the game when Paolo Palacios knocked one in from Kel Coyne to put Illinois on the board. Wisconsin walked away with this one 11-1.

Up next, Northern California shut out hometown Wisconsin ’96 girls, with Christian Webb putting up 3 of his own points and assisting Jorge Anthony Hernandez with two more. Fernando Biorato wasn’t finished there and added another to Northern Cali’s strong showing, closing it out 6-0.

After a short rest, Wisconsin ’96 Girls faced a hometown battle against Wisconsin. The first half was dominated by the girls great setups and passing. Putting 2 on the board were Alexandra Williams and Danielle Melotte with a little help from MacKenzie Corallo, but it was John Ensch’s buzzer beating shot that really wowed the crowd. Wisconsin came out hungry in the second half overpowering the ’96 girls with 7 points, thanks to John Ensch (2), Nat Esten (2), Carlos OssaVelandia (2), Evan Maag (1). Assisting props to Antonio Enriquez, Carlos OssaVelandia, Nat Esten and Tyler Schwalbach. Way to work as a team Wisconsin! This hometown battle goes to the 1997 Wisconsin team with their 8-3 victory.

Rounding out today’s 1997 Division, Northern California sought out and conquered their second victory of the day against Illinois. Illinois put up 2 by Dena Sighn and Joseph Kallikadan in the first half, but it was no match for hot shot Fernando Biorato who was all over the field scoring 4 goals, and assisting 4 others. Christian Webb put up 4 points wasn’t done there adding 2 assists. Jorge Anthony Hernandez also put 2 on the board securing Northern California’s 10-2 win.

The 1997 Division action resumes tomorrow afternoon.

Blog #3 : State Wars Soccer Finals

High School Division Action

The Uihlein Soccer Park may be nice and cool indoors with the air conditioning blasting but the action on the field has been heating up!  Team Wisconsin (red) took a close 5-3 victory over Team New Jersey in the opener.  Sammy Johnson had a 3 point game leading the way for Wisconsin while Matt Singh led New jersey with 2 points.

Wisconsin (white) took home a home town win as well in their first game, defeating Ohio by a 7-5 tally.  Both Sean Schneider, Trace O'Rourke and Bernabe Barba scored 3 points a piece in this one for a great team effort for Wisco!  Ryan Hadley played the role of stud for Ohio scoring 3 goals and adding 2 helpers in a losing cause for Ohio.

Northern California came shooting out of a canon for their first game, taking a part Wisconsin (red) by an 11-1 score.  Adrian Tuscano had a heck of a game, scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assists, while Arturo Cruz scored his own 3 goals and adding an apple as well.  Both German Hernandez and Devin Castro had strong games as well.  Brody Slaugenhoup did the best he could in the net for Wsconsin, after being bombarded with 40 shots!

As I type there is less than 3 minutes remaining in the New jersey vs Wisconsin (white) match up...Wisco is leading 5-3 in a great one!

State Wars Soccer KICKS Off!

Tomorrow at 9am the first ball will be kicked signaling a momentous occasion, the start of STATE WAR SOCCER.  After seven years of running amazing inline hockey events we have taken our game to the field and the great game of indoor soccer.  We are excited to be at the beautiful Uihlein Soccer Park for the next 12 days, a big thank you goes out to Dawn, Bill and the rest of her great staff.  We spent all day today setting up team uniforms, unwrapping individual awards, inflating new custom State Wars Soccer balls and setting out the beautiful first ever State Wars Soccer medals.  Who will be the first to have a gold medal hung around their neck?

We kick off the High School division in the morning as Team New Jersey faces Team Wisconsin (red) in the first ever State Wars Soccer game.  Who will score the first goal?  Will it be the "Jersey Boys" from the east or will home town cooking help Wisconsin?  Make sure you check out ALL games live online at www.statewarssoccer.com

The Plex Indoor Sports is the host of the 2011 South Carolina State Tryouts....What a place! Scott Tanner (South Carolina State Director) has been a great supporter of State Wars and is building Indoor Soccer in S. Carolina. The young talent here in S. Carolina is mind boggling and I felt so fortunate to be apart of this tryout...David Williams, a 2003, was a little stud who is playing up in the 2002 birth year. What vision and patients on this kid....

After a long day of travel I am finally in South Carolina. I had a couple of issues with my plane ticket but we got everything figured out. Never realized how beautiful it is down here. People are so polite and everything seems so new....hmmm..retirement in South Carolina? We will see when that time comes, ha ha....NOW FOR SOCCER!!! HERE WE GO!

As we have said in the past, Silver Creek Sportsplex is a phenominal facility. The staff is very personable and you just feel at home here....The tryout talent has been SICK!!

A couple notes:

Chris Webb from the 1997 team is an excellent player who brings great leadership and talent to his team.

The 1995/1996 looks real strong and will compete well in Wisconsin. These guys are real talented!

The tryouts are going great and we have two great instructors joing our staff...Javier from Lotto Sports and Ernesto fit in well and it's an honor to have them be apart of our program. Ernesto actually plays professional soccer in Mexico City, Mexico. Boy, he knows the game real well....Back to the field.....

Gotta love the quick flights...AZ to CA is really not a bad trip. California is a state that I always enjoy traveling to. Sure nothing beats the weather out here, but most people are pretty clueless about how good the soccer is. In California, players can grab their ball and go outside any day of the year. I hope they realize how good they have it!

We are very excited for the first tryout to start and we have some great instructors that will be helping us out!

Blog #2 - Florida has some CRAZY Talent!!

Looking back at the Florida Tryout there was certainly a lot of talent.  Florida was certainly a smaller tryout compared to Wisconsin but there was still kids having a great time and smiling ear to ear.

During the tryout we combined a few of the age groups and overall everyone was pretty even.  High paced with some great moves on the field.  A few names stood out to myself and the crew.

One was goaltender Chase Keeney.  From the start he was this very tall and vocal boy.  This doesn’t mean you’re a good goalkeeper.  But he certainly proved he had not only the looks but the skill as well.  It is very important to have someone who sees the whole field and knows what is going on and how to communicate to your players.  He certainly did that.  Look for Keeney to lead his team to numerous victories in Milwaukee.

 Next was Michael O’Sullivan.  Michael to me was the most skilled and smartest player at the tryout.  Not only was he doing crossovers, making great passes and shots he was vocal and yet very relaxed.  Many get worked up at tryouts and sometimes even nervous.  That’s normal.  Watching O’Sullivan from the moment he stepped on the field you knew he would be something special.  He for sure did not let us down.

Thanks again for all those who tried out in Florida.  We can’t wait to see you in Milwaukee!!

The first ever State Wars Soccer tryouts are officially finished and Wisconsin completed the weekend with a total of 24 very competitive teams. Uihlein held a packed house and we met some great players and families. Everyone seems to be very ecstatic for the summer event and we at State Wars want to thank everyone who attended tryouts. The day is winding down and Wisconsin has been a success so far. The players and parents are very respectful and show lots of pride towards their state. The players are working hard and listening to what they evaluators have to say. Time for the 95s, 96s, 97s, and 98s to take the field. Should be some great soccer. The girls have been moving the ball around all day and playing very unselfish. Oh and shhh dont tell the boys this but some of the girls even shoot harder than them......

The 2002 and 2001 tryouts are almost finished and our evaluators have their work cut out for them. There were will be some tough decisions being made. We actually saw the Conrad family here at Uihlein who used to play in the State Wars Hockey events. What a great family! David has moved on and is only playing lacrosse and football now but he represented Wisconsin well! Check out some of our videos and interviews.

Well the first group of girls are over and the 2000 and 1999 girls are ready for the results to get posted. Some girls that really stood out in mind today were Elena Rojas, Anna Nelson, & Selena Esten. Dan Maxwell and the rest of the staff had a great time with the girls this morning. "When you have this much talent on one field it is so difficult to pick a team in two hrs. Two hrs is what we have so the players really have to show us what they have in that time frame. Some of the these girls had wicked shots and amazing passing skills."

Wow after a long night here it seems like we never left. Our staff had to make a stop at the local Ruby Tuesdays when we left here last night and we didn't get out of there until after 1:00AM. Let's just say there was very little sleep. We woke up in the morning and the waters that we left in the car were absolutely frozen. Check out our videos section to see!!

Soccer definitely is not just a boys game...These girls can play. I was standing in the net and had rockets flying by my head. Talk about ripping the ball! The 2002 girls first tryout hour looked real competitive....The 2001's were definitely not too shabby either. Both age groups were real aggressive and there were lots of great loose ball battles.

The 2000's & 2001's just rushed the field....We are eager to see what these girls have in store for us...

Day one is in the books! Wisco was definitely representing some solid talent. We had all the player's parents buzzing about the tryout and even more so the National coming this June. You should have seen all the "non" participant soccer players gathering around the field glass curiously enthused about State Wars. We are pumped up and ready to rock out Sundays tryout as we host the 95' through 02' girls tryouts.

Here we are at the beautiful Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaaukee, Wisconsin kicking off our tryout season. We have around 300 players from all over the state entering the field for the right to put on their state jersey. Tim and I got in yesterday to organize the tryout jerseys and some of our merchandise for today. Got in a bit early because of snow issues in NY but we made it here safe and sound. Thankfully we left early because our flght ended up being cancelled out of LGA.

Dawn and the rest of the staff here have been great and have helped out so much. The talent level has looked great and our evaluaters are working extra hard. National Director, Dan Maxwell had this to say, "The talent level here is excellent and our staff has eyes all over the field. We take a lot of pride in what we do and are excited to select Team Wisconsin."
