Blues drown out Waves in 9-3 win
The Blues picked up back to back wins with a 9-3 victory over the Ocean State Waves Saturday night.
Bristol broke open the scoring in the top of the third, a pair of errors by Waves third baseman Justin Hackett allowed the Blues to score two unearned runs and jump out to an early lead.
In the top of the fifth, Bristol piled on to their lead tacking on five more runs. Gianno Merlonghi, cleared the fence of Old Mountain Field and had a three hit four RBI game. The Waves responded in the bottom half of the fifth and put up three runs to cut the lead to four.
Despite the game not exactly being a pitcher's duel, both starting pitchers went the distance. Noah McMahon made his season debut for the Blues and finished with seven strikeouts, three hits, four walks and three earned runs. Cole Richardson, was also making his season debut for the Waves, he finished with eight strikeouts, eight walks and ten hits.
The Blues added on more in the sixth, and in the eighth to get the lead back to six. Mcmahon shutout the Waves after the fifth inning and Bristol picked up the 9-3 win.
The Blues are now 3-1 on the season and head back to Muzzy Field for a game against the Newport Gulls on Sunday night. Bristol will be looking to exact some revenge on the gulls as they have knocked them out of the playoffs the past two seasons and are back to back Fay Vincent Sr. Cup winners. First pitch is set for 5 PM.
