Prospects Selected for U-17 Gold Cup
The Cumberland Grads received some more good news on Tuesday when it was announced that prospects Nicholas Mattinen, Keenan Reynolds and Etienne Vivash were named to the Hockey Eastern Ontario Gold Cup squad which will compete in a tournament next month in Kitchener showcasing the very best 16 year olds in the province. The tournament is part of a process in choosing the members of the Under 17 Team Ontario entry for the World U-17 Tournament next December.
The General Manager of the HEO club, Sean Howard, said that all three players were very impressive at the teams mini-camp last weekend in Ottawa. Howard and his staff are hoping that all three Grads players will play significant roles for the club in the May tournament. In Mattinen, Howard said: "He is a big body that competes hard and has big shot from the point." A second Grads defenceman, Vivash, has the mobility and puck-moving skills that the GM was looking for. Howard also feels that the 6'2 fwd Reynolds can have a positive impact on the club. "Keenan is big forward with good puck skills and we are looking at him to create havoc in the opposition's zone."
The Gold Cup will run from May 8-11 in Kitchener. You can follow our Grads Prospects and their HEO teammates on-line at www.ohlgoldcup.com. The entire organization wishes the boys good luck. Bring home the gold.
