South All-Stars defeat North 6-1 in GLSCL All-Star Game

The South All-Stars defeated the host North All-Stars 6-1 in the 27th Annual Great Lakes League All-Star Game at Xenia’s Grady Field on Wednesday.

The South jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning before adding a run in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings. The North team scored its only run of the game in the sixth.

The South All-Stars got two hits apiece from Lexington’s Jes Staples, Hamilton’s Sean Kettering and Xenia’s Tad Sobieszczanski. Kettering was named the game’s MVP after finishing the night with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Sobieszczanski and Staples each had an RBI, and Staples also scored a run. Cincinnati’s Jason DeFevers drove in and scored a run as well. Cincinnati’s Brian Bien also drove in a run while Southern Ohio’s TJ Braff hit a double and scored a run.

The South sent 10 pitchers to the mound with starter and Cincy pitcher Matt Jefferson getting the win. He threw one inning and blanked the North side.

The North All-Stars were limited to just six hits. Lake Erie’s Kyle Fiala led the team with two hits. Lima’s Kyle Lewis drove in the team’s only run.

The second pitcher to take the hill for the North, Lake Erie‘s Brian Ghiselli took the loss, giving up three earned runs on four hits in one inning.

The GLSCL resumes its regular season schedule on Thursday. Cincinnati and Lake Erie have a doubleheader at Flat Rock Field at 4:30 and 7:05 p.m., Lima and Grand Lake square off at 7:05 p.m. at Montgomery Field, Lexington meets Hamilton at Foundation Field at 7:05 p.m., and Licking County travels to Bob Wren Stadium to play Southern Ohio at 7:30 p.m.
