Brian Storm passes away at 63
TROY, Ohio - The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League want to send condolences to the family of Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers President Brian Storm. Storm, 63, passed away February 9th from complications with COVID-19.
Storm was the president and CEO of Sports Force Field Inc. and the founder of Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center, the home facility of the Ice Haulers, which opened in 2017.
Sports Force Parks is a multi-sport complex in partnership with Cedar Point Amusement Park. The company also has similar facilities in Vicksburg, Mississippi and Naples, Florida.
Sports Field Inc., is a sports general contractor whose projects include grass and synthetic turf sports fields for professional, collegiate and amateur teams.
In a statement provided by Ice Haulers vice president Will Spence, "Owning a baseball franchise where college athletes had the opportunity to participate in high-level, competitive summer baseball was important to Brian Storm, a supporter of athletics from youth to the NCAA level. Storm was excited that the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers were going to be another family-friendly offering for Sandusky area residents to enjoy during the summer. The Ice Haulers name not only reflected the ice harvesting industry that was prominent in the area during the early 1900s, but paid homage to Storm’s grandfather who was an ice harvester in Northern Michigan. The SBIH will be dedicating the 2021 season to Storm’s memory."
Storm, who lived in the Atlanta, Georgia area, will be sorely missed by the staff of the Ice Haulers. The team was supposed to debut in the GLSCL for the 2020 season but is now scheduled to begin play on June 5 against the Lima Locos.
