HAMILTON JOES 9 SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 2
FOUNDATION FIELD - The Hamilton Joes took over sole possession of first place in the South Division standings with a 9-2 win at home over the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
Hamilton (17-12) broke up a tie with the idle Licking County Settlers (16-12) now enjoying a half game advantage. The Joes are one and a half games ahead of the Cincinnati Steam (15-13) and two full games better than the Xenia Scouts (15-14).
The Joes took a 5-1 lead scoring five times in the bottom of the fourth inning. RBI-singles by Bennett Clement (LSU-Eunice) and Grant Miller (Ball State) sandwiched around a sacrifice fly by Clay Bakylak (Frontier CC) highlighted the inning.
Nick Wimmers (Nebraska transfer) stroked a two-run double in the eighth inning putting the game out of reach.
Zach Breeden (Miami University Hamilton) pitched four innings in relief earning his second victory of the season. Breeden gave up just one run on three hits striking out five batters.
Southern Ohio (11-16) was held to just six hits on the night. The Copperheads benefitted from RBI-singles by Maverick Stallings (St. John’s River State College) and Kyle Ratliff (SIU-Edwardsville).
CINCINNATI STEAM 11 RICHMOND JAZZ 10
REDS URBAN YOUTH ACADEMY - The Cincinnati Steam walked off on the Richmond Jazz in a back-and-forth slugfest by a score of 11-10 at the Cincinnati Reds Urban Youth Academy in Roselawn.
Max Fries (Earlham College) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning driving in Adam Schneider (Northern Kentucky commit) for the victory.
The Steam (15-13) sent its fans home happy after trailing by scores of 7-0 and 9-7 before breaking a 10-10 tie. Cincinnati used a 14-hit attack staying in the playoff hunt of the hotly contested South Division standings.
The Jazz (13-17) lost its fifth game in a row despite scoring double digits for the second straight game.
Cade Parker (Gulf Coast State College) may be the hottest hitter in the GLSCL driving six RBIs for the second game in a row. Parker went 3-for-6 with two doubles and a grand slam home run. The Jazz shortstop won the GLSCL Player of the Week last week and is a strong contender to do so against this week.
Richmond’s Kyle Kuramoto (Alabama State commit) had his four-hit game overshadowed scoring three runs and driving in two RBIs.
XENIA SCOUTS 7 GRAND LAKE MARINERS 5
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Xenia Scouts bounce back with a 7-5 road win in an afternoon game over the Grand Lake Mariners in Celina. Xenia (15-14) remains in the mix as one of four teams at the top of the South Division standings.
Jarrett Eaton (South Florida) led the way for the Scouts going 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and season-high four RBIs.
Peyton Niemann (Arkansas-Pine Bluff) reached base in all four of his plate appearance going 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
Grand Lake (13-16) out hit the Scouts 14-10 as four Mariners batters enjoyed two-hit games. Elliot Krewson (Dartmouth College) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Manny Vorhees (Northern Kentucky) singled, doubled and drove in two RBIs.
Jacob Wells (Penn State) pitched three and 2/3 scoreless innings out the bullpen earning the victory. Wells improved his record to 2-1 on the season scattering four hits and striking out three batters.
Mark Schommer (University of Mary) tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his team-high third save of the season.
MICHIGAN MONARCHS 7 SANDUSKY BAY ICE HAULERS 1
SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY - The Michigan Monarchs is the first team to reach 20 wins on the season sweeping the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers in its weekend series with a 7-1 win.
Michigan (20-10) has won six straight and are victorious in 11 of its last 12 games. The Monarchs are now five games ahead of the pace in the North Division heading into its all-star break.
The Monarchs pounded out 13 hits with three different players having three-hit games.
Tyler Nelson (Indiana State) went 3-for-4 with a two-run triple and three runs scored. Seth Gergely (Indiana State) was 3-for-5 with a double and Caden Coleman (Frontier CC) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Three Monarchs pitchers combined holding the Ice Haulers to just five hits. Carson Caudill (Frontier CC) went five innings striking out seven batters. Caudill earned his fourth win of the year which is tied for the most in the GLSCL this season.
Jace Rinehart (USC Upstate) produced the only Sandusky Bay run when his RBI-single scored Josh Kross (Toledo transfer).
ROYAL OAK LEPRECHAUNS 5 JET BOX BASEBALL CLUB 4
MEMORIAL PARK FIELD - The Royal Oak Leprechauns win its second game in a row taking a three-game series over the Jet Box Baseball Club with a 5-4 home victory.
With score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Drew Henig (Madonna University) raced home from third base on a wild pitch scoring the go-ahead run.
Zachary Hopman (Michigan State), making his Leprechauns debut, pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth inning earning the victory.
Jet Box (15-15) took the early lead scoring three runs in the second inning. Cole Kwiatkowski (Findlay) smacked a two-double and came around to score on a triple of the bat of Michael Tchavdarov (Jackson CC).
Royal Oak (13-17) tied the score after a two-run single by Chase Franken (Youngstown State) and RBI base hit from Michael Cook (Babson College).
The Leprechauns bounced back from an extra-inning loss on Friday to win the weekend series over Jet Box.
Jet Box (15-15) hangs on to second place going into all-star break tied with the surging Lima Locos.
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS @ LIMA LOCOS - DH
MILFORD HIGH SCHOOL - The Muskegon Clippers and the Lima Locos spilt a Sunday double header at Simmons Field going into the all-star break. The Clippers won the opener 10-5 with the Locos taking the night cap 9-5.
Muskegon doubled up the Locos in the opener thanks in part to scoring seven runs in the second inning. The Clippers took advantage of two errors in the inning needing just four hits to do the damage.
Colin Cornwell (Saginaw Valley State) and Jacob Anderson (Michigan State) each hit home runs for the Clippers. A.J. Miranda (Adrian College) and August Hutchison (Hillsdale College) each provide two hits.
James Geshel (Western Michigan) went five innings on the mound earning the win for the Clippers evening his record to 2-2 on the season.
The Locos bounced back in the night cap salvaging a split in the double header.
D.J. Jackson (Jacksonville State) had his best game since returning to the Locos going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Josh Mrozek (Kent State) hit a home run driving in a game-high four RBIs. Carson Garner (Murray State) also went yard belting a three-run bomb in the first inning.
Miller Riggins (Kennesaw State) went five innings as the starter for Lima earring his first victory of the season.
After being left for dead Lima (15-15) has found itself tied for second place with Jet Box in the North Division race. Muskegon (13-17) has fallen into a tie with the upstart Royal Oak Leprechauns at the bottom of the division standings.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The league currently consists of 13 active franchises in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
