LIMA LOCOS 6 SANDUSKY BAY ICE HAULERS 2
SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos created separation from the Sandusky Bay Ice Haulers in the GLSCL North Division standings with a 6-2 win at Simmons Field.
Lima (18-7) is now five games ahead of the Ice Haulers (13-11) for the second playoff spot in the North Division. The Locos are beginning to set its sites in the division title trailing only the Muskegon Clippers for the top spot.
The Locos scored four runs in the first inning off Ice Haulers starter Kyle Fitzgerald (Henry Ford Community College). Fitzgerald struggled in his debut for Sandusky Bay before settling down.
Lima took advantage of Fitzgerald’s early ineffectiveness as he gave up four walks and committed two balks in the first inning.
Landon Underhill (McLennan Community College) and Justin Rumfield (Midland College) provided the only hits of the inning both driving in runs.
Fitzgerald settled down after the shaky first inning only giving up one more run in the rest of his five innings of work. He surrendered a line drive bullet home run to Aidyn Coffey (Wabash Valley College) leading off the fourth inning.
Rumfield finished the game for the Locos going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. He reached on an error in the seventh and scored all the way from first base on a double off the bat of Jack Porter (Central Florida). Rumfield slid head first reaching the plate under the attempted tag out at the plate.

Reese Bassinger (Tarleton State) pitched two perfect innings out of the Locos bullpen earning the victory. Bassinger improved his record to 3-0 on the season.
The Ice Haulers avoided being shutout in the seventh when Braden Shepard’s (Marietta College) swinging bunt turned into an RBI-single scoring Eli Snider (Seton Hill) from third base.
Sandusky Bay rallied in the ninth scoring on a bases loaded walk issued to Luke Walton (University of Toledo) forcing Samuel Witt (Ashland University) across the plate from third base.
Hudson Parker (Texas Tech) struck out Chyran Humphries (Eastern Michigan) for the game’s final out squashing the rally and ending the game.
The Locos now find themselves two games behind the first place Muskegon Clippers in the GLSCL North Division standings.
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS @ JET BOX BASEBALL CLUB - DH
OAKLAND UNIVERSITY - The Muskegon Clippers poured water on the Jet Box Baseball club’s hot streak sweeping a double header on the road by scores of 7-4 and 7-1.
The Clippers (19-3) extended its lead over the second place Lima Locos in the GLSCL North Division to three games.
Jet Box (7-15) was one of the hottest teams in the league carrying a four-game winning streak into the twin bill.
Drew Zittel (Biola Univeristy) took the ball in the opener for the Clippers pitching five strong innings. Zittel gave up just one run on four hits striking out six batters while only giving up just one walk.
Muskegon trailed 1-0 until breaking out in the sixth inning. The Clippers only needed one hit scoring six runs while sending 11 batters to the plate.
Jet Box made a furious comeback in the seventh inning. Cody Hultink (University of Michigan) smacked a two-out three-run home run narrowing the deficit to 7-4.
Jaxon Huffman (Michigan State) settled down striking out Michael Tchavdarov (Davenport University) for the final out clinching the victory.
Muskegon made a much easier time of it in the nightcap cruising to a 7-1 win.
Daniel Gutierrez (Adrian College) went the distance pitching a seven-inning complete game. He struck out a season-high nine batters giving up just one unearned run on three hits. Gutierrez is now 5-0 on the season tied for the most wins in the GLSCL with his teammate Jack Decker (Saginaw Valley State).
Dyar Rinehart (Kalamazoo College) lead the Clippers offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a double and three RBIs.
Luke Kerrins (Western Michigan) contributed two hits as well for the Clippers with an RBI.
The two teams continue its four-game series on Saturday at Oakland University with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 pm.
XENIA SCOUTS 6 LICKING COUNTY SETTLERS 1
NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL - The Xenia Scouts bounced back from being swept in a double header the previous day with a much needed 6-1 win over the Licking County Settlers.
The Scouts got off to a good start when Jared Miller (George Fox University) led off the game reaching on a walk. Miller scored from first base on an RBI-double by Kale Ebling (Cedarville University).
Xenia scored three runs in the second inning without the benefit of a hit.
Miller drew a bases loaded walk forcing in Elijah Maris (Corban College) from third base. Eli Riley (St. Edwards University) and Kyle Wu (Wheaton College) each scored on separate wild pitches.
The Scouts pitching staff made the 4-0 lead hold up.
Brian Coburn (Lancaster Bible College) got the start pitching the first four innings giving up just one run on three hits.
Brayden Adams (Columbia International University) came in from the bullpen and was fantastic. Adams pitched five shutout innings striking out five batters earning the victory. He improved his record on the season to 3-1.
Xenia scored a pair runs in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Wu.
Hunter Reagan (Marian University) closed it out for the Scouts pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Scouts (17-9) maintained its half game lead atop of the GLSCL South Division standings. Xenia will host the third place Richmond Jazz on Saturday at 7:05pm.
Licking County’s modest two-game winning streak was snapped with the loss. It won’t get much better for the Settlers as they will now play a double header on Saturday at Foundation Field against the Hamilton Joes.
HAMILTON JOES 13 RICHMOND JAZZ 9
McBRIDE STADIUM - The red hot Hamilton Joes continues its blazing pace winning a 13-9 slugfest on the road against the Richmond Jazz at historic McBride Stadium.
The Joes (16-9) are now winners of seven straight games and nine out of its last 10. In that time, Hamilton has clawed its way into the South Division title talk trailing the Xenia Scouts by just half a game.
The Joes jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage and never looked back.
The Jazz narrowed the gap temporarily scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Jordan McKenzie’s (Wilson College) bases clearing three-RBI double was the big blow for Richmond.
Max Davenport stretched the margin back out to 9-4 in the third inning with a two-run homer.
Hamilton newcomer Max Johnson (Rice University), in just his second game with the team, provided further insurance with a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Liam McFadden Ackman (Northern Kentucky) was 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two stolen bases. McFadden-Ackman leads the GLSCL with 23 stolen bases.
The Joes will host a double header on Saturday against the Licking County Settlers with a chance to leapfrog the Xenia Scouts into the top spot of the GLSCL South Division standings.
Richmond (13-12) looks to inadvertently help the Joes when they travel to Grady’s Field taking on the Scouts.
CINCINNATI STEAM 3 SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 2
BOB WREN STADIUM - The Cincinnati Steam, carrying the momentum of sweeping the first place team in the division, win a one-run battle 3-2 over the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
The Copperheads took the early lead in the second inning. Brayden Hazelwood (IU Southeast) stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. Hazelwood grounded out to second basemen allowing Sebastian Silva (Lake Erie College) scoring from third base.
Cincinnati starter Calvin Mitchell (Wright State) got out of the jam with one of his eight strikeouts in the game. Mitchell would go five innings giving up just one run on two hits but did not get the decision.
The Steam tied the game 1-1 in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI-single by Sean Springer (University of Cincinnati) driving in Gus Gregory (Wright State).
Southern Ohio returned the favor in the bottom of the sixth retaking the lead 2-1. Jake Agarwal (Bellarmine University) smacked a double scoring Caden Crawford (University of Evansville transfer).
Cincinnati tied the game 2-2 in the seventh when Harrison Barnes (Tuskegee University) provided an RBI-single. The Steam took over the lead in the eight inning when William Jaun (Cornell University) chasing home Springer.
Jared Kloth (Wheaton College) made the late inning lead stand up for the Steam. Kloth closed out his four-inning relief appearance earning his first victory of the season.
The Steam (12-14) travel to Montgomery Field in Celina on Saturday taking on the Grand Lake Mariners.
The Copperheads (7-17) will enjoy rest of the weekend off before returning to action on Monday hosting the Richmond Jazz.
