CINCINNATI STEAM 13 HAMILTON JOES 6
FOUNDATION FIELD - The Cincinnati Steam went to Foundation Field winning a 13-6 marathon game against the hosting Hamilton Joes.
The Joes loss ground in the GLSCL South Division standings behind the front running Xenia Scouts. Hamilton, after winning seven straight games, has now lost two of of its last three contests.
To borrow a phrase, the game was a titanic struggle as both pitching staffs struggled to throw strikes consistently throughout the night.
The two teams combined to allowed a combined 24 walks and the Joes further compounded the effort by hitting an additional seven Steam batters.
The Steam only needed nine hits to score its 13 runs. Cincinnati leadoff hitter Zimba Cadiz (Lake Erie College) was 2-for-3 with two walks reaching base in four out of his five plate appearances.
Cameron Bryant (Holy Cross) was a bright spot for the Joes clearing the bases driving in three runs with a double. Unfortunately, he also committed the final out of the innings at third base trying to stretch it to a triple.
The Steam (13-16) embraced the role of spoiler after dropping two in a row to end the previous weekend. Cincinnati will stay on the road taking on the Licking County Settlers on Tuesday evening.
The Joes (17-11) fall one and a half games behind Xenia after spending one day this past weekend in first place in the South. Hamilton will lick its woulds with an off day on Tuesday before welcoming the Scouts to Foundation Field on Wednesday.
SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 7 RICHMOND JAZZ 2
BOB WREN STADIUM - The Southern Ohio Copperheads got off the schneid snapping a four-game losing streak with a 7-2 win over the Richmond Jazz at Bob Wren Stadium.
The Copperheads scored all its runs in each of the first four innings taking a 7-0 lead. Keaton Ference (Seminole State College) and Jake Agarwal (Bellarmine University) produced back-to-back singles in the first inning getting the ball rolling.
Taylor Steig (Olivet Nazarene) kept the line moving in the second inning with a two-run double. Brayden Hazelwood (IU Southeast) followed in the third inning with a two run homer.
Jack Dupuis (Olivet Nazarene) embraced his role as the table setter reaching base in all five of his plate appearances. Dupuis was 3-for-3 reaching base on two walks and scored three runs.
The Jazz avoided being shutout scoring a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
Jonathan Vigoa (Miami University) grounded into a bases loaded fielder’s choice driving in Chandler Mims (Newberry College). Brayton Bowen (University of Indianapolis) came up next drawing a base loaded walk forcing home Alexander Wright (George Washington).
Colin Rhein (Stony Brook University) got the start for Southern Ohio improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Rhein gave up just two runs on four hits striking out eight batters in six innings of work.
Dylan Hoerner (Edison State) bridged the gap pitching two innings scoreless innings. Thomas Fahey (Trinity College) pitched a perfect ninth inning striking out the side.
The Copperheads (8-17) continue its season-long seven-game home stand hosing the first place Xenia Scouts on Tuesday.
The Jazz (14-14) return home to historic McBride Stadium kicking off a three-game home stand as they welcome the Grand Lake Mariners to town Tuesday night.
GRAND LAKE MARINERS 6 LICKING COUNTY SETTLERS 2
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Grand Lake Mariners put up a six-spot in the second inning proving to be all it needed defeating the Licking County Settlers 6-2 at Montgomery Field.
The Mariners batted around in the second inning only needing three hits scoring all its runs.
Nick Kemper (Augustana College), who went 3-for-4 on the night, drove in the game’s first run delivered with a base loaded infield single scoring Jake Hutchins (Niagara University).
Gunner Collins (Morehead State) was up next smacking a two-run single bringing home Parker Bates (Indiana Tech) and Joe Kido (Indiana State).
Kemper came around to score on a wild pitch and Hayden Robbins (Morehead State) drove in Collins on another infield single.
Jackson Taylor (Indiana State) stole home scoring the final run of the inning when Robbins was caught in a rundown between first and second base.
The Settlers scored twice in the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI-singles by Tanner Phillips (California University of Pennsylvania) and Zade Fusselman (Wright State).
Dane Hall (University of Toledo) earned his first win of the season as the Grand Lake starter going five innings. Hall gave up two runs on six hits while striking out six batters and not allowing a walk.
Johnathon Nixon (Mount Vernon Nazarene) and Aidan Plummer (Dartmouth College) pitched two innings each closing out the win for the Mariners.
The Mariners (14-14) travel to historic McBride Stadium taking on the Richmond Jazz. Licking County (6-20) will host the Cincinnati Steam at New Albany High School.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The league currently consists of 13 active franchises in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
