HAMILTON JOES 12 XENIA SCOUTS 5
GRADY’S FIELD - The first place Hamilton Joes won its season high eighth consecutive game with a 12-5 victory over the Xenia Scouts.
In the process the Joes clinched it eighth series win of the season taking two out of the first three against the Scouts.
Hamilton (18-5) raced out to a 3-0 lead crossing the pay station three times in the top of the first inning.
Brayden Fraasman (North Carolina State) chased home Braxton Baird (Milligan College) with an RBI-double getting the rally started. Jamie Palmese (East Tennessee State) drove in Mitchel Szymczak (Lake Erie College) with a sacrifice fly and Fraasman scored from third base on a wild pitch.
The Scouts scored a run in the bottom of the first. Shortstop Jake McNamara (Palm Beach Atlantic University) singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Troy Lynch (University of Minnesota-Duluth).
The Joes answered with three more runs in the second when Ryan Novak (Miami University) cleared the bases with a three-RBI double. Novak took over the GLSCL lead in both batting average (.377) and RBIs (26) with his 2-for-4 performance.
Xenia (10-13) shaved the deficit to 6-3 in the fourth inning but that was the closest the Scouts would get in the game.
The Joes put up crooked numbers in the both the fifth and sixth innings putting the contest out of reach.
Fraasman helped lead the way with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate scoring three runs. Kevin Hilton (Lincoln Trail) also provided three hits and Novak two hits were a double and triple accounting for four RBIs.
Jared Teke (Northern Kentucky) earned the victory for the Joes. Teke logged three perfect innings out of the bullpen not allowing a base runner and striking out six batters.
Jake Winzenread (Southern Indiana) accounted for two out the five Xenia hits allowed by the Joes pitching staff. Winzenread hit his first home run of the season with a solo shot leading off the ninth inning.
The series finale shifts to Foundation Field on the Fourth of July with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Fans are invited to watch the City of Hamilton Fireworks display from nearby Veterans Park which will begin at 10pm.
LIMA LOCOS 5 MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 2
SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos bounced back evening the series with a 5-2 win at Simmons Field over the Muskegon Clippers.
The Locos (13-10) led off the bottom of the first inning with four straight hits scoring two runs.
Lou Fujiwara (University of Washington) got the scoring party started doubling home Justin Gorksi (Miami University) all the way from first base.
Blake Bowen (University of Akron) singled putting runners on the corners advancing Fujiwara to third base. Sebastian Alexander cashed in Fujiwara’s run with an RBI-single of his own to left field.
The Locos struck for two more runs in the second inning. Bo Shinkle, who earlier in the day announced he was entering the transfer portal, smashed a two-run homer. Shinkle would single and score again in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Fujiwara.
Justin Osterhouse (Purdue Fort Wayne) accounted for both of Muskegon’s runs. Osterhouse broke the seal in the fifth inning with an RBI-single by driving in Patrick McCoy (Patrick Henry CC). Osterhouse also provided a solo home run, his first of the season, in the eighth inning.
The Locos pitching staff scattered seven hits on the night with Osterhouse accounting for three of them.
Thomas Howard (University of Louisville transfer) got the start for Lima going the first five innings. Howard improved his record to 2-3 on the season giving up just one run on four hits.
Skyler Lhamon, an incoming freshman to Olney Central College, pitched the final four innings earning the save. Lhamon, who recently graduated from Lima’s Bath High School, gave up just one run on three hits.
Despite the loss the Clippers (13-7) remain in second place of the GLSCL standings just ahead of the Locos (13-10) by a game and a half.
The rubber game of the series takes place on July 4th at Simmons Field with a special start time of 5:05pm. Fans are invited to stay after the game and view the fireworks show put on by the city of Lima that begins at 10pm.
SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 6 GRAND LAKE MARINERS 1
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Southern Ohio Copperheads insured a series victory with a 6-1 win on the road over the Grand Lake Mariners.
Southern Ohio (10-13) was powered by a four-run outburst in the third inning. The Copperheads only needed two hits in the frame. The snakes scored on a pair of bases loaded walks, a sacrifice fly and an error committed by the Mariners.
Joey Canzoni (University of Cincinnati transfer) lead the way for Southern Ohio with a season-high four hits. Canzoni went 4-for-4 at the plate hitting his first home run of the season and stealing a base.
Trenton Neuer (Ohio University) and Case Sullivan (Valparaiso) each chipped in with two hits for the Copperheads.
Ben Bates (Adrian College) went five and 2/3 innings for Southern Ohio earring his second win of the season. Bates struck out eight batters on five walks giving up just one run and one hit.
The Mariners (6-17) were held to just three hits in front of its home crowd. Grand Lake did get a nice performance on the mound out of its bullpen.
Newcomer David Jimenez (University of Findlay) pitched two shutout innings with two strikeouts. Trent Fulkerson (Ohio Northern University) also pitched two innings of relief giving up just one run and three hits.
The Copperheads go for the series sweep on Fourth of July while the Mariners will be attempting to avoid that fate in front of the home fans. First pitch at Montgomery Field is set for 6:35pm.

The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 7 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
