Lake Tahoe hangs on, beats Russia 3-1
The Lake Tahoe Blue beat Russia, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.
Nathan Chiarlitti provided Lake Tahoe with the game-winning tally when he scored five seconds into the first period. Ryan Sproul picked up the assist.With three goals and two assists between them, Chiarlitti and Boone Jenner teamed up to power the Blue's offense. Chiarlitti tallied two goals and one assist and Jenner also notched one goal and one assist.
Lake Tahoe did not waste many scoring chances, needing only five shots to achieve its goal tally.
The Blue got most of their shots through Chiarlitti, Jenner and Riley Brace, who totaled five pucks on net between them. Lake Tahoe got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.
Lake Tahoe also got points from Jenner, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Lake Tahoe received assists from Jamie Oleksiak, who had one.
Russia did not challenge the opposing netminder, firing only four shots on net to force three saves. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 21.8 pucks on net per game. The defense for Russia played an important role offensively, racking up four shots on goal.
Russia was led by Victor Antipin, who scored the team's only goal. Antipin scored the first of his two goals at five seconds into the first period to make the score 2-1 Lake Tahoe. Roman Rukavishnikov assisted on the tally. Antipin's next tally made the score 3-2 Lake Tahoe with 17:41 left in the first period.
The Blue's Scott Wedgewood stopped three shots out of the four that he faced. Lake Tahoe avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored one goal off of two power plays. Sergey Kostenko made two saves for Russia on four shots. Russia incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities.
