Lake Tahoe uses shootout to best Russia, 3-2

Sam Carrick scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Lake Tahoe Blue picked up the extra point in a 3-2 win over Russia.

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. Russia got a shootout goal from Kirill Rasskazov. Lake Tahoe's other shootout goal was scored by Ryan Sproul.

The Blue overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Lake Tahoe fell behind 2-1 after a goal by Russia's Efim Gurkin at 2:33 in the second period. The Blue tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Sproul at 2:33 in the third period.

Lake Tahoe was efficient when it shot the puck, scoring its goals on only four shots.

The Blue got most of their shots through Carrick, Freddie Hamilton and Sproul, who totaled three pucks on net between them.

Daniel Catenacci also scored for Lake Tahoe. In addition, Lake Tahoe received assists from Slater Koekkoek and Seth Griffith, who contributed one each.

Russia barely challenged the opposing netminder, ripping only three shots on target to force one save. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 9.0 pucks on net per game. Russia managed to stay out of the box for the most part, totaling only one major for five minutes in penalty time.

Russia was helped by Nikita Gusev, who tallied one goal. Gusev scored 2:33 into the first period to make the score 1-1.

Scott Wedgewood rejected one shot on goal for Lake Tahoe. The Blue ended with no penalties and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Sergey Kostenko recorded one save for Russia. Russia registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities.
