Monarchs Announce Broadcaster for 2016 Season
As the month of May quickly passes by, the 2016 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League season is only a couple weeks away. For the Lake Erie Monarchs, it means preperation to put out the best possible product, both on and off the field. For the Monarchs, this also means having a new radio voice behind the microphone, calling the sounds of summer's action.
Shawn Bednard, a Junior at Central Michigan University, is the voice of the Monarchs for its 2016 campaign. He has called baseball for the last three years, starting in his Senior Year of high school, and most recently calling many home and road games for the CMU Baseball team the last two seasons. In his time with CMU Baseball, he has traveled all around the Midwest, calling games in New York, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and in all parts of Michigan. Twice he has had the opportunity to announce at the home of the Detroit Tigers, Comerica Park, once doing Color for a game between the Tigers and the Cleveland Indians, and once calling the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association's East vs West All Star Game.
He has worked in the Sports Broadcasting field since 2010, and in that time has been Nationally and Regionally awarded for his Packages, Storytelling, Reporting, and Announcing Work, including being awarded a Michigan Emmy for Sports Story of the Year in 2012.
Shawn got his start in Sports Broadcasting at the Nationally Recognized and Awarded High School Television Station, Davison Television, where he served as the Sports Director and lead Play-by-Play, and saw major growth and improvement within the department. At CMU, Shawn has worked as a Play-by-Play and Color man for the Chippewa Sports Network on WMHW 91.5 the past two years for High School Football, Volleyball, Baseball, and Softball.
In his latest endeavor, Shawn worked as the Director of Broadcasting and Play-by-Play man for CMU Hockey. Alongside his broadcast partner, they co-founded an entire media network for the team, and covered every single home and away game, did weekly recap videos, ran the team's website and social media, and completely boosted attention and awareness of the team at CMU.
Shawn will be plenty busy this summer with the Monarchs. Along with being the radio voice of Lake Erie, he will also be working closely alongside General Manager James DeSana as his Assistant GM, as well as being the webmaster of LakeErieMonarchs.com, and the Director of Broadcasting and Sales.
