Early boost from Rothenberg helps the Worcester Bravehearts get past the Marthas Vineyard Sharks, 5-3
The Worcester Bravehearts (24-9) built an early lead against the Marthas Vineyard Sharks (14-19), scoring three runs in the first inning, en route to a 5-3 win on Sunday at Vineyard Baseball Park.
A three-run home run by Matt Rothenberg delivered the runs in the first. The Worcester Bravehearts had one hit in the inning.
Rothenberg racked up three RBIs on one hit for the Worcester Bravehearts.
The Worcester Bravehearts had no answer for Cameron Sepede, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Worcester Bravehearts managed just two hits off of Sepede, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his four innings of work.
Cory Teachout got the win, running his season record to 1-0. Teachout struck out none, walked none and gave up one hit.
Tim Superko was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just four innings, walked four, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
