Week 6 Recap
The Missoula Maulers and the Bozeman Icedogs played three games this weekend. The first game was Friday night in Missoula. The Maulers won the game 4-2 against the Icedogs. Dalton Gilbert, Mason Sheppard and Julian Breux all had two points with a goal an assist. Randy Japchen got the win for the Mauler improving his record to 5-2 on the season.
The Icedogs rebounded on Saturday winning at home 8-3. Tanner Stansbury led the Icedogs with three goals and two assists. John Kippen and Joe King had three points for the game. Kippen finished with two goals and an assist and King had a goal and an assist. The Maulers would win the series on Sunday with a 3-2 win against the Icedogs. Matt Anothne would score the only goal in the first period giving the Mauler a 1-0 lead. Tom Greene tied the game 19 seconds into the second period, but the Mauler would score two power play goals in the period by Dalton Gilber and Martin Dubec giving the Maulers a 3-1 lead. The Maulers were 2-7 on the powerplay.
The Helena Bighorns started their weekend on Friday traveling to take on the Billings Bulls. The Bighorns won the game 6-1 and out shot the Bulls 52-20. Adam Johnson led the Bighorns with two goals. Zach Maxwell, Alex Burks and Nolan Grauer all had two points in the game. The Yellowstone Quake traveled to Butte on Friday before they hosted the Bighorns on Saturday and Sunday. Mathew Schulz and Chase Cooney had two goals for the Quake in their 10-0 win. The Quake out shot the Roughriders 64-29.
The Bighorns were looking to redeem their only loss of the season against the Quake last weekend. On Saturday, the Bighorns defeated the Quake 6-2. Cody Hess had two goals for the Bighorns and Ryan Sutliffe saved 29 of 31 shots.
The Bighorns would score six goals again in Sunday’s gane by winning 6-1. Cody Hess had four points for the game with three goals and an assist. Nic Wackerly earned his third win of the season saving 42 of 43 shots. The Billings Bulls finished their weekend at home defeating the Butte Roughriders 6-3. Jayce Douskey with three goals and two assists. Andrew Sherman earned his first win for the Bulls saving 28 of 31 shots.
The Eugene Generals traveled to Seattle to play the Totems at the Olympic View Arena. The Generals won Friday night 2-1. Dylan Woodring bested Anthony Chimenti in the game saving 37 of 38 shots. Chimenti saved 34 of 36 shots. Ryan McDonald had two points with a goal and an assist, on what would be the game-winning goal by Blake Bishop.
The Totems would not be denied on Saturday with an 8-3 win over the Generals. Chris Beede led the Totems in points with a goal and four assists. Jake Raemacher had two goals and two assist and John Dennis had three assists. The Totems had a total of five players with multiple points in the game. The Generals and Totems are tied a top of the Pacific Division with 20 points.
The Tri-City Titans would sweep the Puget Sound Tomahawks in Kennewick Washington. The sweep improved the Titans record to 8-6, which moved them into third in the Pacific Division. The Titans would score all three of the goals on Friday in the first period. Jordan Nelson, Jordan Allen and Shawn McElroy all had goals in that period. The Tomahawks would add a goal in the second period by Brandyn Kaufman and by Ben Surgalski in the third period but it would not be enough.
The Titans would win Saturday’s game 2-1 with goaltender Jacob Gilmore out dueling Aaron Boyko. Gilmore saved 36 of 37 shots while Boyko saved 27 of 29 shots. Ricky Doubrava scored the first goal of the game in the first period. Gabe Creigh tied the game in the second period. Jordon Nelson scored the game-winning goal 13:23 into the period. The teams were a combined 0-11 on the powerplay.
In the final game of the series the Titans would beat the Tomahawks 2-0. Kevin Bauder earned his first shut out and win of the season. Bauder would save 29 of 29 shots for the game. The Titans two goals were both shorthanded goals scored by Ricky Doubrava and Jordon Nelson.
The River City Jaguars traveled to Medford Oregon to play the Rogue Valley Wranglers. The Jaguars won Friday’s game 5-3. Chris Whitten scored the first goal of the game for the Wranglers in the first period. The Jaguars had goals in the first period by James Abudakar and Kendall Micone. Brandon Burlingame would put the Jaguars up 3-1 in the second period. Mike Feagan scored two powerplay goals to tie the game at 3-3. However, Garry Schut would score a shorthanded goal 7:48 into the third period giving the Jaguars a 4-3 win. Alex Sulitzer would score the fifth goal of the game on an empty net goal.
The Rogue Valley Wranglers won their second game of the season on Saturday defeating the River City Jaguars 3-2. The Wranglers scored all three of their goals on the powerplay. In the first period, Steven McCormack put the Wranglers up 1-0. In the second period, James Abudakar scored a powerplay goal to tie the game. Mike Feagan scored the Wranglers second powerplay goal of the game giving the Wranglers a 2-1 lead. Noah Dolinajec tied the game in the third, but Mike Feagan scored his second goal of the game giving the Wranglers the win. Feagan finished the game with two goals and an assist.
