Team HEO uses shootout to best Team GTHL Red, 2-1 (2-0 SO)
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Team HEO defeated Team GTHL Red in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).
The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Team HEO got a shootout goal from Serron Noel.
Team HEO overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Team HEO trailed 1-0 after a goal by Team GTHL Red's Joseph Rupoli at 15:52 in the second period. Team HEO tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Ryland Mosley at 19:48 in the third period.
Team HEO was led by goalie Kai Edmonds, who finished with 39 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Edmonds will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.65.
Team HEO stifled Team GTHL Red's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Team GTHL Red was unable to stop Team HEO from sending pucks towards the net, and Team HEO eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.
More assists for Team HEO came via Noel and Brian Bygrave, who each chipped in one.
Team GTHL Red put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Team HEO to score on any of its three power plays. Team GTHL Red could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Team GTHL Red puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. Team GTHL Red's offense rang up 40 shots on Team HEO's net.
In addition, Team GTHL Red received assists from Liam Foudy and Allan McShane, who contributed one each.
