KITCHENER – Christian Sbaraglia made 21 saves, and Jamieson Rees scored the game winner, as Team GTHL picked up a 2-0 win over Team OMHA Black in their first game of the 2017 OHL Gold Cup.

Team GTHL Red and Team OMHA Black spent the first half of the opening period learning about their new teammates and working to build some chemistry. Jamieson Rees became the first recipient of that work, as he opened the scoring 12:34 into the first for a 1-0 Team GTHL Red lead.

Rees picked up his second point of the game, assisting on Dylan Jackson’s goal in the second period. Twin brother Ty Jackson also assisted on the 2-0 marker. Then Team GTHL Red turned things over to Sbaraglia, though the goaltender credits his teammates with keeping things simple.

“The boy seemed ready today, the came out and battled hard and made my job a lot easier,” Sbaraglia said.

“We just didn’t generate pucks on net and we ended up losing the game but for the most part it’s looking pretty good and our performance was something to build off of,” said Team OMHA Black goaltender Ethan Langevin.
