GTHL Blue Wins in Shootout
Kitchener, Ont. – GTHL Blue came back from a 3-0 deficit to take the win via shootout over OMHA White.
Ethan Larmand put OMHA White on the board early in the first from Cole Patey and Brett Bressette. Nicholas Paone extended the lead from Blake Hall. And Barret Joynt finished off the period with a power play goal from Chas Sharpe.
However, GTHL Blue closed the gap in the second with goals from Danny Zhilkin, assisted by Braeden Kressler within the first two minutes and Andre Anania from Aidan Shepard and Brennan Othmann in the last two minutes to bring the score within one before the buzzer.
It took Francesco Arcuri less than a minute into the third to tie it up from Danny Zhilkin, Logan Mailloux. Barret Joynt took the lead back for OMHA White from Daniel Michaud and Jacob Maillet shortly after. And Landon Cato brought GTHL Blue back to par on a power play from Brennan Othmann.
Overtime solved nothing, sending the teams to the shootout where Brennan Othmann, Danny Zhilkin, Francesco Arcuri and Francesco Pinelli stepped up to give GTHL Blue the win. Ethan Burroughs scored for OMHA White.
Players of the Game were Danny Zhilkin for Team GTHL Blue and Barret Joynt for Team OMHA White.
Shots were 29-17 in favour of OMHA White.

“It was pretty incredible, the guys had a little bit of nervous energy going into the game – you know with it being such a big event, but we pulled through at the end,” said Danny Zhilkin for GTHL Blue.
“We are hoping to come back tomorrow with a strong game and win. We had a lot of intensity - unfortunately didn’t get the outcome we wanted, but hopefully we will in day two tomorrow,” said Barret Joynt, OMHA White.

As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence (POE), players competing at the OHL Gold Cup have an opportunity to be evaluated for invitation to the national under-17 development camp, where Hockey Canada gathers the top talent from across the country to introduce players to the national team program and provide a foundation of development as they progress through the POE.
