Team NOHA Takes it in Overtime

Kitchener, Ont. – Team NOHA won in overtime after tying the game up with less than two minutes to go in regulation time.

Team NOHA took an early lead through to the first intermission thanks to a power play goal by Zacharie Giroux from Chase Stillman, Joshua Kavanagh.

The second period saw three back and forth goals, leading the teams 2 all into the third period. Ryan Winterton tied it up at 52 second into the second for OMHA Black from Brenden Sirizzotti, Thomas Johnston. Shortly following, Joshua Kavanagh took back the lead with a power play goal from Chase Stillman, Mitchell Martin. And Ty Anselmini brought OMHA Black back in the game on the power play from Jacob Holmes, Mark McIntosh before the buzzer.

Team OMHA Black took back the lead with a goal from Ethan Lindsay from Matthew Roy, Andrew Whitton. However, Jack Matier tied it up for Team NOHA to send them to overtime from Tyler Dunbar, Max McCue with two minutes left in regulation time.

With just over 30 seconds left in overtime Cameron Walker scored the game winning goal for Team NOHA from Max McCue, Jack Matier.

The players of the game were Max McCue for Team NOHA and Ryan Winterton for Team OMHA Black.

Shots were 41 to 25 in favour of OMHA Black.

“Yeah I mean, down late in the game, we knew we needed one - get shots on net, pucks deep and went to work for the last 7, tied it up, overtime - we knew we needed to get the two points there,” Max McCue for Team NOHA. “It’s a really fun tournament - good to be around the guys, make new friends, meet other teams and other players - and a couple hard games coming up here this weekend, so should be fun.”

“Just getting more comfortable with the guys, just warming up to each other and getting the chemistry going,” said Ryan Winterton for Team OMHA Black.

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring top under-16 talent in Ontario. As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence (POE), players competing at the OHL Gold Cup have an opportunity to be evaluated for invitation to the national under-17 development camp, where Hockey Canada gathers the top talent from across the country to introduce players to the national team program and provide a foundation of development as they progress through the POE.
