GTHL Blue Goes Undefeated in Preliminaries at the OHL Gold Cup

Kitchener, Ont. – Pasqual Zito scored the game winning goal late in the third to give Team GTHL Blue the win over Team HEO.

Team HEO took the early lead thanks to a goal by Josh Reid from Mark MacPhee. But Tucker Robertson tied it up for GTHL BLUE from Logan Mailloux, Pasquale Zito.

Despite rushes from both ends, goaltenders Patrick Leaver (HEO) and Forbes Anderson (GTHL Blue) protected the net through the second period and saw no goals for either teams.

With 7 minutes left in the third Pasquale Zito beat Leaver from Tucker Robertson, Landon Cato for the game winner.

And Brennan Othmann dumped in an empty net unassisted to seal the win.

Shots were 22 to 29 in favour of GTHL Blue.

Players of the Game were Pasquale Zito for Team GTHL Blue and Patrick Leaver for Team HEO.

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring top under-16 talent in Ontario. As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence (POE), players competing at the OHL Gold Cup have an opportunity to be evaluated for invitation to the national under-17 development camp, where Hockey Canada gathers the top talent from across the country to introduce players to the national team program and provide a foundation of development as they progress through the POE.
