Patey scores a hat trick for OMHA White to help the team to a 6-2 win

Kitchener, Ont. – Cole Patey scores a hat trick for OMHA White to help the team to a 6-2 win over Team HNO.

OMHA White took an early two goal lead into the second period.  Connor Punnett scoring at 52 seconds into the game from Ethan Burroughs, Jon-Randall Avon and Cole Patey scoring from Joshua Ziliotto before the halfway mark.

OMHA White extended their lead by one in the second, a second goal for Ethan Burroughs from Jacob Maillet, Nicholas Paone.

Jack Michaelis followed up by putting Team HNO on the board with a goal on the power play from Jack Cook, Alex Atwill.

Team HNO shortened the gap thanks to a goal by Alex Atwill from Jeremy Dunmore at 1:28 into the third. But OMHA White pulled ahead with two goals and an empty netter before the buzzer went. Cole Patey scored the first of the trio from Ethan Larmand, Daniel Michaud scored the second again getting some help from Ethan Larmand and Cole Patey scored his third of the game in an empty net from Nicholas Paone, Wil Murphy.

Shots were 48 to 21 for OMHA White.

Players of the Game are Cole Patey for Team OMHA White and Alex Pineau for Team HNO.

"Feels great to get the win, our team needed it to boost our confidence in the tournament and to move on tomorrow,” said Cole Patey from OMHA Black.

“Definitely really proud of the effort the guys gave, can bring that over to tomorrow, and maybe just the bounces didn’t go our way tonight but trying to put more pucks to the net tomorrow,” said Alex Pineau for HNO.

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring top under-16 talent in Ontario. As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence (POE), players competing at the OHL Gold Cup have an opportunity to be evaluated for invitation to the national under-17 development camp, where Hockey Canada gathers the top talent from across the country to introduce players to the national team program and provide a foundation of development as they progress through the POE.
