DOGS DROP CLOSE ONE TO SQUATCH
In just the second game in Souris Valley Sabre Dogs’ history, the team fell to the Spearfish Sasquatch 8-9.
Brock Baughcum opened the scoring in the first inning when he scored on a wild pitch. The Sasquatch answered in the bottom half of the frame with a solo home run to left center.
The Sabre Dogs offense added four runs an inning later, including two on wild pitches. Souris Valley went on to add two more unearned runs to lead 7-1 heading to the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Spearfish cut into the Sabre Dog lead with two runs, but Souris Valley added to their cushion with a run in the eighth.
Spearfish pulled within three runs with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth, Spearfish put up four runs, including a walk-off double by Charley Hesse.
Jarret Whorff got the nod for the Sabre Dogs and pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out four batters. He was relieved by Aaron Kern, who allowed 7 hits and struck out 6 batters in just over three innings of work.
Ty Shriver faced five batters and missed a save opportunity in the ninth and was relieved by Alec Ivanoff.
Souris Valley falls to 1-1 in their inaugural season and will go for the series win against Spearfish tomorrow.
