COVID UPDATE
As you are aware, COVID precautions continue to challenge “normal” activities, and this is also true for hockey.
Much is still up in the air, and the board has no control of any of these factors.
Data points we have as of this point in time:
- Currently in PA there are restrictions at ice rinks for no more than 25 people in a rink at a time
- In Philadelphia there are also limitations on any contact sports, impacting Bantam and above levels (and would impact High School)
- All local rinks are currently not allowing any parents or spectators in the building; many are also limiting any kind of congregating in the parking lot
- Most rinks are requiring players to get dressed at home, with some exceptions for goalies
- The DVHL (local hockey club governing organization) recently voted to proceed with their season start on 10/1, with modifications to be determined if there is still a 25 person limit at rinks
- The SHSHL targeted start date is 11/25 and will have a full 14 week season. The Flyers Cup has been moved to April 5th and States have also been moved into later April. Therefore it should not impact our ability to have a full season.
- At least two other High School governing bodies across PA have announced they will delay until January 1, 2021 that is the reason for the delay in Flyers Cup.
