Middle School Coach Announced

September 3, 2018
1:42 PM EDT
Abington Ice Hockey is excited to announce that club President, Steven Schorr, will be taking the reigns as head coach of the middle school team this season. AIH looks forward to continuing its strong tradition of fielding competitive teams at both the middle school and high school levels. Both teams placed well in spring tournaments with the middle school finishing as runner up and the high school team winning its division.
Varsity's Coach Ken and Coach Steve will collaborate during the upcoming season to ensure skills and systems are universally incorporated within both teams practices. The main goal of both coaches is to improve players abilities and enhance skills through out the season and being competitive in post season play. Middle  school practices will include drills and instruction that will prepare players as they graduate to the next level and exposure them to the high paced speed of the high school game.

Opportunities will exist for shared ice practices and player participation at both practices during the course of the season.

The Abington coaching staff looks forward to continued parent support and 100% player dedication to the team. The 2018/2019 seasons has already started for the high school team with their August Summer Camp at the University of Delaware and expectations are high for successful seasons for both squads.

About MS Coach Steven Schorr

Steve Schorr has been playing ice hockey for almost 50 years and coaching ice hockey for over 25 years.  Mr. Shorr has been involved with the Abington Ice Hockey Club for almost all of the over 20 years since its reinvention in 1996, in roles that include parent, USA Hockey certified coach, Board Member and his current role as President of the club.

During his playing career, Steve captained the inaugural Neshaminy High School team and played junior hockey in the Philadelphia area prior to moving on to Villanova University where he played ice hockey and captained the team his senior year.  He continued to play ice hockey while attending graduate school at Northwestern University and after graduation when he returned home to the Philadelphia area to start a family.

Steve has coached in the DVHL and SHSHL for over 25 years at all levels from mites to juniors; from middle school to varsity, taking numerous teams to league and district championships.  He has personally coached Abington teams at every level during his tenure at the club, taking (along with the other coaches) Varsity teams to the Flyers Cup numerous times.

An avid student and fan of the game, Steve believes in a team oriented approach to both coaching and playing.  Steve feels that the privilege of being able to participate in a team sport and the teamwide (and personal) triumphs and adversities that come with it, help the players to build character, a critical factor in the development of a young person.

Coach Schorr has taken a back seat and given younger coaches the opportunity to participate in the program, but the board is thrilled to announce that he has agreed to return to the head coach role and take the reigns of a middle school team that he sees tons of potential in.
