After a weekend away for another showcase in New England, the Philadelphia Flyers Junior Hockey team will return home to the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ, for a two game weekend against the Connecticut Junior Rangers.  Saturday’s start time will be 7:00pm, and Sunday will be a 1:30pm puck drop.  Once again, the team will be running their home game promotion where all kids 12 and under who wear a hockey jersey to the game get in for free.

Last weekend in New England the Flyers managed to go 1-2 on the weekend.  On Saturday they picked up their first win of the season against Springfield in a 4-3 shootout victory.  On Saturday they fell 3-0 to the Junior Bruins, and on Monday in a Halloween matinee game, they fell to Islanders HC 7-5.  The Flyers are looking for two big wins this weekend against Connecticut in what will be their only two home games in the month of November.  The Flyers come into the weekend with a 4-11-2 record in ninth place in the Premier Division.

The Flyers welcomed a number of new players to the team this past weekend.  Forwards Vadim Vasjonkin and Richie Greenberg and goaltender Adam Mercer all joined the team.  Flyers fans may remember all three players as they just recently were seen playing for the Junior Bruins just a few weekends ago against the Flyers at the Skate Zone.  Greenberg was able to notch a goal against Islanders HC on Monday earning his first point in a Flyers uniform.  Vasjonkin earned himself a goal against Springfield and an assist in the Islanders game.  Mercer got his first start in goal for the Flyers against the Islanders, unfortunately being saddled with the loss in the 7-5 final.

For Connecticut, they come into the weekend in the middle of the pack for the Premier Division.  They boast a 9-6-2 record with 20 points, good for 5th place.  Last weekend in New England they faired very similar to the Flyers, defeating Springfield, but falling to the Junior Bruins and the Okanagan Eagles.  Blake Carrick has been the bright spot for the team thus far, leading with 21 points so far on the year.  Max Rasberg and Michael Capozzi aren’t too far behind with a 19 points each.  The team features a number of young newcomers to the team and a few returnees from last season.  Connecticut is one of the only teams in the Premier Division to not currently roster any NCAA recruits.

Players to Watch:

For the Flyers, it’s very easy to want to watch the newcomers to the team this weekend.  While they familiar with Skate Zone ice, it will be their first time donning the orange and black in a home game for the Flyers.  Vasjonkin and Greenberg have already contributed for the team, and Mercer has already seen a game in net.  It will be interesting to see how they adjust in their second weekend with the team.

For Connecticut, there are a number of players to watch for on the ice, but since this is the first time these two team’s will face each other this season, we’ll keep an eye on the three big contributors to the team thus far in Carrick, Rasberg and Capozzi.  All three have already shown thus far this season that they are producers, and the Flyers will for sure want to keep them contained if they want to limit the Rangers scoring chances this weekend.
