Flyers Take First Game of Holiday Weekend Homestand
By Ryan Shute
The Philadelphia Flyers Junior Hockey Team put on a show by beating the PAL Junior Islanders by a score of 6-3 on Saturday night at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees.
The Flyers gave up a goal to the Islanders in the first period at the 3:44 mark, but followed up just 14 seconds later with a goal of their own scored by Richie Greenberg. Greenberg’s goal was assisted by Mario Tropea and the score was knotted at 1.
The Islanders would get up 3-1 in the second period and then Brendan Ferguson would begin the rally and cut the score to 3-2.
Ferguson would strike again later in the period with a goal scorers goal, taking the puck from his own blue line all the way in on goaltender Michael DePhillips and put a backhand shot up in the top of the net to tie the game.
Voorhees native Mario Tropea would pot the game winner in front of the home fans at the 3:49 mark of the third. Defenseman Tristan Ramage would assist on that goal and the Flyers would never look back.
Brian Taccone would find the back of the net just one minute from being removed from the penalty box and Reid Bibb would score on a magnificent short-handed breakaway and that would close out the scoring for the evening.
The Flyers and Islanders will be playing the second game of the weekend series Sunday afternoon at 1:30PM. Come out and see the action as tickets are only $5!
