Sorenson and Hjelle Mash; Whiskey Jacks Snap Losing Streak
MINOT, N.D. – The Wheat City Whiskey Jacks defeated the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs 6-3 Sunday, largely on the backs of All-Star first baseman Jake Hjelle and third baseman Jaxon Sorenson’s strong offensive performances. Sorenson hit his 4th homerun of the year and three RBIs, bringing his total to 21 on the season. Hjelle hit his 11th double of the year and finished 2-for-4, raising his average to .336. Second baseman Ethan Sitzman went 3-for-4 with his 7th double of the season. Sitzman also walked once, increasing his total to a team-high 21 walks. Right fielder Nolan Lingley and center fielder Houston Fogelstrom both collected one hit a piece.
Sabre Dogs first baseman Beau Brewer recorded his 11th double, his only hit, in Sunday’s game. Brewer recorded his 50th RBI of the season. Third baseman Dalton Bowling went 1-for-3, extending his hitting streak to five games and doubles streak to two games. Catcher Cullen Hannigan recorded his 15th RBI of the season. Shortstop Justin Cooper and right fielder Allen Grier both recorded a hit.
Whiskey Jacks pitcher Jack Moffitt (1-3, 7.13 ERA) recorded his first win of the season, going five innings on six hits, giving up two runs (both earned), walking three batters and striking out four batters. Pitcher Dylan Kuester (1-0, 4.69 ERA) collected his fourth save of the season on four innings of work, giving up one run (earned), three hits, walking two batters, and striking out two. Sabre Dogs pitcher Dalton LeBlanc (1-3, 6.00 ERA) collected his third loss of the season, going 4.1 innings pitched on four runs allowed (three earned), walking four batters, and striking out six. Sunday was LeBlanc’s second consecutive loss. Shane Sinclair (2-1, 7.05 ERA) pitched two innings in relief, giving up two runs and two hits, while striking out two batters.
The Whiskey Jacks (17-22) face off against the Badlands Big Sticks (22-17) in Dickinson Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Dakota Community Bank & Trust Ballpark.
