Whiskey Jacks Defeat Trappers 13-7

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Wheat City Whiskey Jacks defeated the Pierre Trappers 13-7 in a topsy-turvy game Saturday. The Whiskey Jacks scored eight runs in the 1st inning, including a three-run homerun by second baseman Garrett Olson. Olson went 2-for-5 with three RBI including his 3rd homerun of the year. Shortstop Ethan Sitzman, left fielder Nolan Drill, and catcher Keenan O’Brien all doubled in Saturday’s game. Drill and O’Brien both finished with three RBI. Whiskey Jacks right fielder Nolan Lingley went 1-for-3, collecting his 8th and 9th RBI of the season. 

 

Trappers pitcher Kaiden Cardoso collected his 7th double of the season, along with catcher Nicholas Strong, who doubled twice in Saturday’s game. Cardoso collected his 12th RBI of the season. Shortstop Tyler Skelton recorded his 15th and 16th RBI of the season, going 1-for-5 in Saturday’s game. Left fielder Jacob Griffin and right fielder Brock Rinehart both collected one RBI a piece. 

 

Whiskey Jacks pitcher Sam Marhefke (3-4, 6.42 ERA) recorded his third win of the season, going six innings on nine hits, allowing six runs (five earned), walking a pair, and striking out seven batters. Pitcher Cameron Daigle (1-0, 5.12 ERA) pitched two innings in relief, giving up one run (earned), and striking out three batters. 

 

Trappers pitcher Mason Torve (1-3, 9.81 ERA) recorded the loss and didn’t record an out, giving up seven runs (all earned), walking five batters, and recording zero strikeouts. Pitcher Parker Lewis (0-2, 9.25 ERA), Jared Shelton (1-3, 7.67 ERA), and Cardoso (1-0, 7.10 ERA) pitched eight innings in relief for the Trappers.

 

The Whiskey Jacks (20-25) will look to go for the series sweep against the Trappers (13-32) Sunday at 5:35 p.m. at Kraft Field. The Expedition League All-Star Break will commence on Monday, July 19th in Casper, Wyo. at Mike Lansing Field.
