Sodbusters Defeat Whiskey Jacks 6-2
HASTINGS, Neb. – The Hastings Sodbusters defeated the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks 6-2 Saturday, as the Whiskey Jacks’ struggles continues mightily, losing eight straight games.
Sodbusters third baseman Trevor Mattson slashed his 18th double of the year, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBI. Mattson now has 48 RBI on the season. Shortstop Luke Solis went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while right fielder Logan Johnstone and catcher Nick Carlson both knocked in one hit and one RBI a piece. Whiskey Jacks left fielder Caleb McDowell went 3-for-3 Saturday, the only player on the Whiskey Jacks with a multi-hit performance. Third baseman Jaxon Sorenson went 1-for-3 with one RBI, collecting his first triple of the season.
Whiskey Jacks pitcher Gene Aberouette (4-3, 5.44 ERA) was assigned the loss, giving up six runs (all earned) on four innings of work. Aberouette also walked three batters. Griffin Shearon (1-1, 10.05 ERA) pitched two innings in relief. Sodbusters pitcher JT Cafferty (2-3, 5.72 ERA) collected the win, going five innings, only allowing one run.
The Whiskey Jacks (21-36) will finish the three-game series versus the Sodbusters (21-37) Sunday.
