A letter from our Co-Chairs

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

Allow us to give an update on what’s been happening here and what to expect this upcoming season …

To begin with, you have may have noticed our new logo for the organization. Why a new logo? Over the years I’ve been asked “What does YCBC stand for?” and to be honest I had to ask! The new logo clearly identifies our association with the Fredericton YMCA – without whose support we wouldn’t exist. From this point on we will be referred to as “The Fredericton YMCA Capitals”.

We’ve also had to make some difficult financial decisions this season based on our existing balance sheet, our reliance on the Holiday Hoops tournament to remain solvent, and a lack of corporate sponsors

  •     **  Season fees will increase to $400 per player.
  •     **  Player uniforms will be $100 (but will additionally include a shooting shirt and extra practice jersey). Teams may choose to raise funds on their own to offset this cost.
  •     ** The organization will pay for six home games and two tournaments for each team. Additional games and tournament costs will be the responsibility of each team.

We realize that raising fees is certainly not what people want. Please understand that the organization’s costs are increasing each year as well. Fees for gym rentals, referees, and scorekeepers are rising. Some people don’t realize that we rent the gyms for every practice and every game – it is our single largest cost. We also need to purchase additional portable scoreboards and more basketballs. When you add it all up the costs are higher than one might expect. We do plan to outline these costs and our balance sheet at a Parent’s Meeting in the fall for those who wish to understand the justification behind these decisions.

Please know that it is our ongoing commitment to ensure that your children receive the very best experiences and coaching. To that aim we have a great lineup of returning veteran coaches and some eager new coaches as well. If last year’s successes are any reflection, then this upcoming season should be fantastic!

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to either of us.

Sincerely,

Bram Russell and Luke MacMillan
