The 6’3” 200 pound forward for the North Bay Battalion got his start in Junior hockey while playing as an AP for the Mississauga Chargers. After a solid minor midget season with the Mississauga Senators (14G 25P in 37GP) the Mississauga native went undrafted in his OHL draft year and would settle in for a Midget season with the Mississauga Reps. With the reps he rounded out his game while utilizing his size without putting a lot of focus on his final statistics. Paul had 14 goals and 22 points for the Reps in 38 games while being named MVP of the GTHL All-Star Game en route to being drafted by the Brampton Battalion in the 5th round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection Draft
With the Chargers Paul was a force on the ice and it didn’t take long to notice him moving the puck or hitting his opponent hard into the boards. In 9 regular season games for the Chargers he notched 3 goals and 5 points along with 4 penalty minutes. The combination of Midget hockey and playing some Junior hockey catapulted him into his first OHL season where he was a standout on the Battalion roster. Paul scored 12 and had 28 points in 66 games. His play in his rookie season landed him a spot on Central Scouting’s final rankings where he was selected by the Dallas Stars in the 4th round, 101st overall.
Nick Paul will be entering his 3rd OHL season before embarking on his professional career in the Ottawa Senators organization. His rights were traded as part of the Jason Spezza trade in July 2014
