Week 1 (6/1-6/10)

Hitter of the Week-

Joe Pantano- Olean Oilers

Erie Community College

Pantano has collected a league-leading 16 hits. The Fredonia, NY native had six multi-hit games including a 4-for-5 performance when the Oilers defeated the then-first-place Hornell Dodgers. In 29 at bats Pantano had four extra-base hits to go with four walks and zero strike outs.  He is also tied for the league lead with eight  runs scored.

 

Pitcher of the Week-

Brandon Nemeti- Olean Oilers

Erie Community College

Nemeti went 2-0 in his first two starts.  The right-hander scattered four hits over seven-plus innings as Olean opened the season with a win over the Geneva Twins. He followed that with six-plus innings of work in a victory at Niagara Falls.   The Lancaster, NY native has struck out eight while allowing three earned runs for an ERA of 1.93.

Week 2 (6/11-6/17)

Hitter of the Week-

Matt Calhoun- Hornell Dodgers

Harding University

Calhoun collected a league-leading 11 hits during the week going 11-for-22 for a .500 batting average while helping the Dodgers go 4-2 on the week. Calhoun added four doubles and a homerun to go along with eight runs batted in. He had three multi-hit games in the six games he played.

 

Pitcher of the Week-

Joel Belk- Rochester AIA

Azusa Pacific U

Belk picked up the win in his lone start of the week pitching seven shutout innings against the Wellsville Nitros in the teams 12-1 victory. The Rancho Cucamonga, CA native allowed just three hits while striking out four and walking three batters.

Week 3 (6/18-6/24)

Hitter of the Week-

Eric Baker- Adirondack

Rogers State

Baker’s three-double performance Thursday night highlighted an eight-hit week which saw the Muskogee, Ohio native run his hitting streak to an even dozen games. Baker had six RBI and scored four runs as the Trail Blazers won four games to run their record to 11-6. His bases loaded single in the ninth inning pushed the tying run across the plate as the Trail Blazers rallied to defeat Utica on Sunday night. Baker ranks third in the NYCBL hitting .451. His four home runs are tied for first while 19 RBI put him in second.

 

Pitcher of the Week-

Miguel Navarro- Utica

Mt. San Jancinto

Navarro went 2-0 on the week with 24 strike outs. In 15 innings of work, the San Jacinto, CA native allowed six hits and two runs. Navarro walked just two batters for the week.  Navarro is 3-0 on the season, and the Brewers (9-8) are 4-0 in games started by Navarro this season.  His 2.00 ERA is tops among pitchers with at least 25 innings of work. Opposing batters are hitting just .172 against Navarro who has a WHIP of .93.

Week 4 (6/25-7/1)

Hitter of the Week-

Jon Kemmer- Olean Oilers

Clarion University

Kemmer went 12-for-21 in the past week with five extra base hits (three doubles and two home runs) and 11 RBI.  His solo shot in the sixth inning of yesterday’s match-up between the west’s top two teams gave the Oilers a 2-0 edge. Olean went on to defeat the Hornell Dodgers 4-2 and inch with a game and a half of first place.

Pitcher of the Week-

Sean Williams- Syracuse Salt Cats

Oklahoma Panhandle St.

Williams tamed the bats of the Adirondack Trail Blazers. The Wilmington, DE resident hurled eight complete as the Salt Cats took their third in a row over the east’s second-place club. Williams struck out 10, walked two and allowed just four hits and one run for the win.

Week 5 (7/2-7/8)

Hitter of the Week-

Andrew McNett- Utica Brewers

State College of Florida

Utica’s Brewers won seven straight and McNett’s stick did plenty of damage during the week. The native of Myakka City, FLA went nine-for-twelve with seven runs scored, five RBI, four walks and two stolen bases. He connected for one home run and added three doubles.

McNett went five-for-five as the Brewers pounded the NYCBL East-leading Syracuse Jr. Chiefs, 13-2.  He has an on-base percentage of .418 with an OPS of .866.

Pitcher of the Week-

Anthony Galan- Wellsville Nitros

Brown U

Galan struck out five and walked three in five complete as the Nitros outlasted the Twins, 11-8. The Watching, NJ resident followed that fanning five and walking none in six full as Wellsville downed the Ridgemen, 11-3.  In 41 and two-thirds innings of work this summer, Galan has an ERA of 2.81with a WHIP of 1.17. Opposing batters are hitting .238 against the right-hander.

Week 6 (7/9-7/15)

Hitter of the Week-

Mike Mascari- Syracuse Salt Cats

Suny Oswego

Mascari hit 8-of-14 as the Salt Cats split four games during the week to hitter of the week. Mascari’s grand slam paced the Salt Cats to a 13-9 victory over the Geneva Red Wings. The Syracuse native had five RBI in the win as he went three-of-four with a walk and a run scored. Mascari finished the week three multi-hit games including a three-of-five outing against the first-place Jr. Chiefs. His two-single in the eighth scored two, and the Salt Cats went on to a 6-5 triumph.

Pitcher of the Week-

Ethan Striz- Syracuse Jr. Chiefs

Ave Maria

 

Striz came within one out of a no-hitter and was name pitcher of the week. The right-hander faced 31 batters and eight and two-thirds of a no-hitter before surrendering a single to the Salt Cats Dan Fiorito (Manhattanville). Striz struck out seven and walked two as the Jr. Chiefs pounded their cross-town rivals 19-0.

Striz is 5-0 on the season with a 3.13 ERA. He has struck out 20 and walked 11 in 37.1 innings of work. Opposing batters are hitting just .238 against the Lakeland, FL native. He has a WHIP of 1.24.
