The Ocean State Waves 501(c)(3) Non-profit Organization is a member of the New England College Baseball League. Our players come from top collegiate programs throughout the country. The NECBL has over 250 alumni players in professional baseball. In just five years, the Ocean State Waves have had 29 players get drafted or signed a pro-contract.
“The primary purpose of the NECBL is to promote, foster and cultivate the amateur sport of College Baseball by operating a league of baseball teams located throughout New England. In doing so, the NECBL strives to provide entertainment for the local communities that host the teams.” Article I Section 3 NECBL by-laws
The goal of the Ocean State Waves is to provide young college players with an opportunity to play summer ball enhancing their skills while providing them with an environment that fosters a sense of community. Playing ball at Old Mountain Field in Wakefield gives players an opportunity to get noticed by MLB Scouts while providing the families of South County a place to strengthen community and neighborhood ties. Everyone regardless of income, background, or age can enjoy a great game of baseball. This organization provided 15,000 fans last year with quality baseball at an affordable price.
The objectives of The Ocean State Waves baseball organization are:
- To provide affordable family fun with quality baseball.
- To engage collegiate students in our local community. (Players have active roles in peer reading programs and field days with some of our community schools and participate in local Red Cross blood mobiles when asked.)
- To serve as a positive impact in the community encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
- To encourage local families to serve as host families for 9 weeks for our players.
- To seek out community support to volunteer in helping with game day operations such as collecting tickets, selling merchandise, and field preparation.
- To foster summer intern positions in the areas of sales and sponsorships, coaching and player management, game day operations, marketing, and public relations.
- To involve community businesses as sponsors of the team to defray cost of player’s meals, uniforms, and traveling expenses. (NECBL college players do not pay a fee for playing summer ball.)
- To support local youth and military organizations. (Any patron wearing a uniform to an Ocean State Waves game will receive free admission throughout the season.)
