World Championship Legacy Fund Co-Sponsors Midget Bursary Program

The OEMHL is pleased to announced that the World Junior Hockey Championship Legacy Fund will co-sponsor the league's major midget bursary program with matching funds over the next two years.

The OEMHL bursary program was one of 14 successful recipients sharing $159,900 in funding announced by Cyril Leeder, vice-chair of the 2009 World Junior organizing committee, at a June 7th media announcement.  The intent of the world junior program is to see the impact and financial legacy of the championship benefit the hockey community in the ODHA district.

The funding received by the OEMHL will expand and augment a post-secondary school bursary program for graduating AAA midget players.  Five $1,000 bursaries will be award in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 years to successful major midget applicants who demonstrate on-ice and off-ice leadership skills and academic excellence. This year will be the third year of the OEMHL program and application details will be posted on the website or obtained through AAA major midget coaches, in February. The OEMHL/World Junior bursaries will be awarded at the league's annual general meeting in May.
