Welcome to the Steel City Icebergs! We’re so happy that you have joined our team. We want all of our players to have a good time while learning to play the game of hockey.
What Iceberg athletes need to know:
- Please become familiar with your equipment and try to put on whatever pieces you can.
- Please take care of your equipment to the best of your ability.
- Please do your best to listen and follow the coach’s instructions.
- Please bring a water bottle to keep on the bench. If you are tired you may rest on the bench.
- Safety comes first. Special hockey is a non-checking (no hitting) league. Infractions may result in “time-out” in the Penalty Box.
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you do not understand an instruction.
What Iceberg parents need to know:
We would like to provide a program for all ages and abilities. While ability is not important, there are three requirements for the athletes:
- The athlete (not the parent) must have the desire to play hockey.
- The athlete must be able to try to follow the coaches’ information.
- The athlete must comply with the rules of Greater Pittsburgh Special Hockey and the coaches.
All players are required the following equipment before they enter the ice:
-
Helmet with Cage
-
Neck Guard
-
Mouth Guard
-
Shoulder Pads
-
Elbow Pads
-
Gloves
-
Hockey Jill/Jock Shorts
-
Hockey Pants
-
Shin Pads/guards
-
Skates
-
Jersey
-
Socks
-
Stick
Also…
Please provide sizing information to the coaching staff in advance of attending a practice. We will do our best to accommodate your needs with donated equipment.
Parents are asked to allow enough time for dressing the players and have them ready at the start of the ice session.
Parents are asked to refrain from coaching their kids from the sidelines.
Remember everyone progresses at his or her own speed and the most important thing is to have fun.
Have Fun!
