As a coach of Seagulls Baseball Academy, I recognize that:
Youth baseball represents what is great about baseball and amateur athletics.
I am an advocate of baseball, amateur athletics, the Seagulls Baseball Academy, and my community.
The behavior of a single coach (or group) can impact my team and its reputation in the community and within youth baseball.
It is my obligation to conduct myself, on and off the field, in a professional way that makes my organization, my community, myself and my family proud.
I therefore pledge that:
- I am responsible to teach participants the importance of developing a competitive spirit and an understanding of sportsmanship.
- I will strive to make every program activity serve as a training ground for life, and as a basis for good mental and physical health.
- I will be responsible for building the confidence of the participants and teach the fundamentals of the sport they are playing.
- I will emphasize that good athletes are good students, and both are physically and mentally alert.
- I will emphasize that winning a game or competition is the result of teamwork.
- I will not criticize the opposing team, the coaches, fans or parents, through language or gesture.
- I will not criticize participants in front of spectators.
- I will not use abusive or profane language before anyone connected with any program activity.
- I will not use abusive or profane language when questioning a call made by an umpire.
- I will refrain from “showing-up” an opponent during games or competitions.
- I will set an example in personal conduct at all times.
- I will treat each player, opposing coach, parent and spectator with respect and dignity.
- I will encourage open communication with all participants.
- I will be a good role model.
-I will follow all league, competition, and Academy rules.
I will be responsible for the positive promotion of the Academy.
- I will learn the strengths and weakness of all participants so they might be placed into situations where they have a maximum opportunity to achieve success.
- I will protect the health and safety of all participants.
- I will not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
I understand that:
- The players, parents and Academy will not be happy if I were to represent the team in a negative way.
The consequences could be:
- Written Warning
- Coaches Game Suspension
- Coaches Season Suspension
- Coaches Removal from Seagulls Baseball Academy
