Geary Commits to SUNY Fredonia
EAST MEADOW, New York – The New York Bobcats are proud to announce that defenseman Shawn Geary has committed to play and attend school at SUNY Fredonia beginning in the fall of 2015.
Geary, ‘95, is the second Bobcat to commit to SUNY School this year along with fellow teammate Charles Barber who will skate at Plattsburgh in 2016.
“I chose Fredonia because it's been my goal since I started Junior hockey to play in the SUNYAC,” said Geary. “It's also close enough to home so my family will have a chance to watch me play for the next four years, which I am very excited about.”
Geary, who was captain for New York this past season had career highs in games played (42), goals (2), assists (5) and points (7). He also played in all six post-season games for the Bobcats last year.
“The Bobcats helped me in every aspect of the game. They pushed me on and off the ice to make me a better player everyday. I couldn't have asked for a better group of players and coaches that surrounded me in the organization for the past two years and I wouldn't be where I am without them,” added Geary.
The Hamburg, N.Y native played in 69 career games for the Bobcats and registered two goals and seven assists for nine points.
“We are extremely proud of Shawn and his commitment to Fredonia. This was a goal of Shawn’s from day one and he worked extremely hard to achieve it. Shawn’s fearlessness, toughness and work ethic will be missed in our dressing room. I think Shawn still has a lot of room to grow and develop as a player and I think he will be a huge piece of their program moving forward, said Craig Doremus, head coach and general manager.
“Shawn started with the Bobcats two years ago and eventually became our captain this past season. Shawn is an extremely sound defensive player. I expect him to contribute major minutes right away at Fredonia. We want to thank Shawn, his parents, siblings and Shawn’s extended family here in Long Island for their support and commitment to our program. The entire Bobcat staff and organization wishes “Gears” nothing but the best with the Blue Devils. We look forward to watching Shawn play college hockey for the next four years.”
The New York Bobcats wish Shawn and his family all the best on this wonderful accomplishment.
