OLEAN — David “Bubba” Hollins made his season debut with the Olean Oilers on Tuesday night. But the star third baseman may have also been making his farewell appearance at Bradner Stadium.

You see, after a week of pre-draft workouts in Florida for the Miami Marlins and New York Mets, Hollins arrived Tuesday afternoon in Olean, where he helped the Oilers win it all last year. His second summer with the NYCBL club could very well be short-lived, however.

The three-day Major League Baseball Draft begins Thursday, and Hollins has re-entered. Son of former big-leaguer Dave Hollins, he was already drafted once, picked out of Orchard Park High School by the Detroit Tigers in the 35th round two years ago. He chose not to sign a professional contract then, though. He instead opted to attend St. Petersburg College, heading to the Florida junior college to grow his skills and further showcase them at the same time.

As for the possibility of getting another call from the pros? Hollins isn’t taking it for granted. READ MORE.
