Waves Come Up Short Against Navigators

LYNN, MA – The Ocean State Waves got on the scoreboard first, but weren’t unable to hold on as they fall 5-3 to the North Shore Navigators and fall to 21-21 on the summer.

In the second inning, a pair of hits from Chase Meggers and Creek Robertson set up Justin Long at the plate to put Ocean State out in front, sending home Meggers on an RBI notch to give the Waves a 1-0 lead.

The score held all the way until the fifth, when the North Shore offense broke open the game with a four-run burst. Bryant’s Jake Gustin sent in the tying run, and he would eventually come around to score on a two-RBI shot from Nathan Blasick. Another run in the next at-bat gave the Navigators a 4-1 advantage to end the frame.

The Waves got back on the scoreboard all the way in the eighth. A wild pitch allowed Drew Holderbach to stroll home to cut the deficit to just two. But the Navigators matched that on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to go back up by three.

With three outs left to work with, Ocean State made one last push in the ninth. Khyree Miller racked up his second triple of the season to drive in a Holderbach run, but their efforts would be stopped there as the Waves fall back to .500.
