Oschell Takes Pitcher of the Week for the Third Time, Ramirez Lights it up on the Road.
The season is flying by and believe it or not, we are only about six weeks away from the Opening Day of the NECBL Season! Based on our guys' performances throughout the 2023 campaign, we are anticipating a highly competitive summer at Old Mountain. With conference play well underway, two of our ‘23 Waves really stood out to us, earning Player of the Week accolades. Shouting-out the now three-time Whaler’s Brewery Pitcher of the Week, Fran Oschell, with yet another lights-out performance on the mound for Duke. And on the other end, returning Wave Alex Ramirez led the home team to a sweep over St. Bonaventure over the weekend.
In only his second year with the Blue Devils, Fran Oschell has made a big impact on the mound for Duke this season. Through their 35 game campaign, Oschell has appeared in 11 games for the Blue and White, boasting an 8-3 record with an ERA of 0.42 through 18 relief innings. As the Blue Devils traveled to Chestnut Hill for a series with ACC rival Boston College, Oschell and the Duke bullpen battled out a weekend victory. In their big game one win, Oschell kept the Eagles off the board through three innings while adding five strikeouts to make a season total of 37. The Blue Devils improve to 23-12 on the season, heading into another ACC matchup against Louisville this weekend.
On the other side of the ball, returning Wave Alex Ramirez lit up the scoreboard for the Rhode Island Rams this past weekend in their A-10 matchup with St. Bonaventure on the road. Ramirez accounted for 10 of the Rams 23 runs on the weekend, with nine RBI’s and one home run. In their second matchup with the Bonnies, the Rhode Island native ended the game after a hard-fought 10 innings with his solo homer. Rhody now sits at an even .500 on the season heading into a nine-game stretch at home, including two series' against A-10 opponents Dayton and Davidson.
We are so proud of our guys and can’t wait to see all they accomplish this summer! For real-time updates, follow @OceanStateWaves on Instagram and Twitter.
