Rhody Natives Sweep Player of the Week
Now well into the 2024 collegiate season, our guys are gearing up for the remainder of their collegiate seasons before embarking on a new journey in the Ocean State. For this weeks players of the week, that journey doesn’t require them to cross state lines. In an Ocean State sweep, three Rhode Island-based players took home the crown following their incredible performances for their respective programs. Earning Whalers Brewery Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season, is redshirt freshman Evan Maloney out of the University of Rhode Island. On the offensive side of the ball, two Bulldogs dominated the weekend to earn co-player of the week honors. Taking the Rienzi Pasta co-Player of the Week titles are Bryants very own, Carmine Petosa and Zac Zyons.
The Bryant Bulldogs put on an offensive clinic on the road this weekend where they swept the University of Albany, totaling 39 runs to the Great Danes’ 11. Two of the starting nine this series tallied career weekends, earning them Rienzi Pasta Co-Players of the Week. Senior Carmine Petosa was exquisite and patient at the plate, tallying three home runs and eleven runs-batted-in on just six hits this weekend, and reaching base three more times on walks. The Jackson, New Jersey native now has four home runs and 23 RBI’s on the year, being a major offensive threat for the Black and Gold. Our hometown boy, Zac Zyons also had heavy contributions for the Bulldogs this past weekend, tallying two home runs and 11 runs batted in on nine hits. The sophomore South Kingstown native now has five home runs and nineteen RBI’s on the season.
On the mound, North Kingstown native Evan Maloney has found his pace and remained consistent for the Rams, earning them their lone win in their weekend series against UMass Amherst. Battling through a career-high of eight innings, tallying three strikeouts and keeping the Minutemen off the board for a career-low of zero earned runs. The Rhode Island native improves to 2-1 on the year, tallying 35 innings with 28 strikeouts to kickstart his young career.
We are so proud of our Rhody boys and their incredible accomplishments not only this weekend, but this season, and can not wait to see all they accomplish back at Old Mountain this summer.
